Sonic 4 Ep 2 2 info revealed, New Physics Engine, new Graphics engine, playable Tails

Complaining about physics, general gameplay flaws, and the atrocious graphics are not nitpicks. The complaints are completely valid.

Of course they are, but it only takes a quick browse through the thread and a more careful read of my post to see what I'm referencing. Obviously it's not perfect.
 
Everybody at this point knows where the game needs to improve. We're going around in circle by constantly talking about it.
 
There isn't shit else to talk about except these lame concept art and how terrible the last game was and how we hope this one isn't.
 
if we stop talking about episode 1 sega will assume we've warmed up to it and undo any changes they were going to make with the sequel

I hope the "Aquatic Ruin Zone" in this game doesn't have a bleh Sonic 4 artstyle, and looks as nice as the Sonic 2 version.

Oh, who am I kidding. :lol

But then you have the Aquatic Ruins-esque pillars (shown from the comic's preview) and Chop-Chop. :l
 
I enjoyed Sonic 4, but I hope they fix some of the flaws in it. I'd like if they added those signs from Colors/Generations that warn you when there's a death pit.

The Casino level in the game had some pretty random ones that I found were bothersome.
Oh, and no more Casino levels for a while.

I'd also like to see something original in the level design for once.

Well depending on what Ken Balough's definition of new graphics engine, hopefully it will look nicer!

I don't think we'll see any other Casino themed zones now that we have Casino Street in Episode 1. Perhaps warning signs would be good for those bottomless pits, but the overall level design needs to be better with much less badnik homing attack chains just to lead to another area.
 
If they're fake they're very good.

Have to be real...especially since I dont think any actual 3D asset shots have been released. Decent zone variety so far too....I just hope they dont butcher the music/controls.

EDIT: Is it just me, or does Sonic look like that classic/modern fusion action figure?
 
Look pretty legit to me

Gotta say, the art direction has seen a pretty big improvement. I love the feel of these stages with the Aurora Borealis

Huh, well it's an improvement visually I'll give it that though some of the elements are surprisingly realistic like the trees in the tornado screenshot and most of that oil ocean like level screen. In fact the whole general art style and colouring seems that way, not sure how I feel about that.

Also Bubbles homing chains confirmed! :T

Still, not bad. Really intrigued by the planet in the background, miracle planet?

I'm liking the look of the speed feet. There also appears to be some sort of co-op spin dash attack. It looks good. Can't be any worse than episode 1.

And did they ever say that Episode 2 would have some backward compatibility with Episode 1?

I feel like that was the original assumption with the "episodes" adding more in each iteration, but after Ep. 1 was universally panned I'm not sure if that's the case, assuming they really did change that much.
 
Since Sonic CD is the supposed "prequel" to Sonic 4, I think the planet is the back is Little Planet from CD, and the Eggman stuff is merely a metallic cage Robotnik built around it, like he does with all the captured animals.
 
These leaked screenshots are sweet! I can't help but get excited by how nice Episode 2 looks.
Really hoping the new physics engine means actual momentum-based gameplay. I was reading the info on the xbox 360 site and this caught my eye:
"...Joined by Tails, utilise ingenious combination moves and race across four brand new Zones, in order to put an end to their evil plans! Play alone, or with a friend locally (and online), in an evolution of Sonic 2's collaborative gameplay!..."
Online play? Not looking too bad Sega.
 
We can see now why the Wii couldn't handle this. The graphics look incredible! Like Generations 2-D levels. How are the smart phones gonna handle this?

Oh great. Sonic Advance 3 style team-up moves.

Sonic Advance 3 was awful.

Sonic Advance 3 did have to design around something like 20 different possible combinations of characters. This could be a little more focused.

I do like that some of the combination moves, like Tails swimming Sonic up toward air. ...But yeah, the internet isn't going to let that "69 spin" go.

I have to say I'm a lot more impressed with it visually than I anticipated, and if they've changed the engine as much as it looks like they have (at least from a visuals standpoint), maybe there is hope they really reworked the physics guts as well. Combined with an expansion of the co-op moves from Sonic 3... I have to say it, tentatively hyped. But still need a trailer.

By the way, is Metal Sonic standing on the rocket Tails built in Sonic the Fighters? (Edit: Nope, that was orange and white.) Or is it the one I think from near the end of Sonic 4, just before you go fight Eggman for the last time?

Edit: Definitely the ship from Episode 1, that's a nice touch.

Thanks--I had a good laugh!

While they definitely don't look as nice as Sonic Generations, they do look like they might be beyond what would be publishable on Wiiware - unless they created a specific Wiiware-only version that keeps all of the level design but flattens it all down to sprites.

Because, I mean, they even re-released the iPhone version of Sonic 4 Episode 1 not too long ago that uses the Xbox 360 assets.
