Mass Effect 3 Demo Impressions [Online Open To All]

A quick glance through this thread and I'm curious. A solider who caries all weapons won't be affected by slow power cooldowns while an adept is going to have a larger cooldown?

Also, yeah, totally getting XP off loot and gaining level in mission is totally rad!
The reason being that the adept has a whole arsenal of powers that they can fall back on (lead designer claims an adept with only a pistol is a viable insanity build with the large cooldown bonus from not having other weapons) while the soldier's gameplay revolves around his arsenal of weapons, ammo powers and adrenaline rush. I didn't really like that ME2 restricted the caster classes to specific weapons, and you can now make an adept build with as many weapons as you want, you just can't cast as fast. It sounds like it'll be a good system but it all depends on the implementation, and sadly this demo doesn't give a good idea (other than carrying 4 weapons means you're fucked)

Additionally, all enemies on Insanity don't necessarily have shields and armor-the basic cerberus soldiers have a lot of HP but no shields and can be affected by biotics, unlike ME2 where you had to strip everyone before actually being able to affect them with pull/singularity/throw. I think the tweaks will do a lot to make the game more playable as a caster class.

Hmm, that is really neat. Really curious to know how an adept stacks with only an SMG + Shotgun on Insanity

I'm really curious to see if ME3 will have a decent PC port... the ME2 one, while having great framerates, sucked because the mousewheel didnt work in the menus and there was no shortcut to quickly access them. Something that WAS in ME1 ffs.

No menu hotkeys confirmed, and no controller support. I'm expecting the same as ME2.

Lol, lets see if Bioware can redeem a total shit reputation with this one. Im fully expecting some shit revelation once review copies start flowing in.

- Story sucks.
- Not enough role playing.
- Too much shooting.
- Sexed up.

Might as well pick one and run with it now.

I dont care much about controller support since keyboard/mouse is just fine for this kind of game, but why taking out something that was in ME1 and was pretty useful? I don't get it.

the me2 port was all right. It certainly wasn't one of the bad ones I've played. It just didn't have the extra stuff that I'm accustomed to.

That was one of the worst and laziest design choices about ME2, they created this rather elegant rock, paper, scissors system with Shields, Barriers and Armor that required you to select various squad members for different encounters to maximize your force capabilities. This in kind was handled well with the various merc groups and enemy forces that favored different sets of those protective layers, but then on Insanity they just stacked all of it on every enemy in every encounter making them become more of a chore to fight than a real challenge that required quick thinking and smart tactics.

I was so happy when I saw an ME3 demo on Insanity because it actually looks like they put some effort into maintaining that balance of enemy class defenses, now an Insanity run can be an enjoyable challenge with various tactics and play styles and not a modern day Time Crisis where every enemy takes 50 bullets to be taken down instead of one or two.

look at the VGA trailer they showed on ME3, its all pc gameplay with pc HUD.

Holy shit, Infiltrator max power branches are insane.

One choice for max incinerate lets you make your own freeze combo for 100% extra damage with your own Cryo ammo or anyone else's freeze/chill power, and one of the tactical cloak max choice is that you can use a power while cloaked and still remain cloaked (should be nuts if you can still choose a new extra power like in ME2) OR have 40% sniper rifle damage bonus the whole time while cloaked. These new sticky grenades are great when choosing between the max levels - both are great. Same for Sabotage.

Oh man.

Okay so I played the first half of the demo again and was able to make the game more pleasing on my eyes.

First step was sitting about 3-4 feet further away from my TV. (55" D8000).

This helped make the jaggies and the low res textures more bearable.

Second step was turning on what my TV happens to call automotion plus.

On the "Standard" setting this really had quite a dramatic effect on the games look. Animations looked smoother, framerate appeared smoother, and explosions that seemed very "framey" were smoother. Aircraft flying through the air had a much more natural look, etc.

I usually keep this setting off for games and movies (I play at 24p), but for ME3 I recommend anyone with a similar feature on their TV to give it a try, it really did make a tremendous difference.

Hmm, not sure why everyones having such positive times with the Kinect, it didn't work that well for me. During quiet moments it worked well, but in action it got harder for it to pick up what I was saying. Also, at one point I was flanking the turrets and the kinect thought I told Liara to stand in front of the turret (I didn't say anything) and she died.

Also, speaking the dialogue really took me out of the experience. Because it gave it a disconnect of myself talking and Shepard talking. Felt more like I was telling her what to say, instead of me saying it. More so than pushing a button.

I've only played the demo once however (to keep it fresh), so maybe over time it gets better/more natural.

Infiltrator is even more of a beast than I first thought, wow.

And the sticky grenades actually refill, and quickly too - I didn't realize that at, but I upgraded them up to being able to carry 4, and I didn't notice if they recharged in the fight or just after each encounter, but either way they do, and they do it fast. So good after a couple upgrades, and that's without them being maxed when one of the choices you can do is even turn them into proximity mines.

I destroyed the last bit with the Infiltrator even easier than with the Vanguard, so beast.

And I'm so glad that BioWare took away that whole "give everyone on Insanity shields and armor" thing so that you can actually use powers right away.

Man I love this demo - time for bed to go through it again with other setups and on Insanity.

EDIT: Just tried the Facebook app AGAIN and got nothing three times once again. Still haven't won a single thing, I think all the codes are done.

to the guy who playa hated on me a few pages ago, I got the .ogg files out of the demo and I'm posting them here. Not sure if it's allowed and I'll take it down if that's the case, but quote to reveal!

Be warned though, there are some songs that don't appear to be in the demo, and I think there's a song by
faunts in here as well o__o
edit: it's Daz Malefitz according to youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMH36PuN-1w

I am blown away by the demo. Everything feels more responsive, tighter controls, it feels like an excellent TPS. This game is going to be beyond special.

I have heard some crazy rumours of the game being capped at 30 fps on PC. I hope it's not true and I saw 60 fps video anyway.

I've played through the demo twice now. First with infiltrator which will be my first playthrough character that I'm importing. I would have liked to use a Sniper with it but it handled well with a cloak and shotgun. Second was Vanguard which is a class that I haven't used until now and was a lot of fun. A great CQ class and the Charge/Nova is a great risk/reward combo. Overall I'm really happy with the combat of the demo. Except for the roll being a bit awkward everything has been improved upon from ME2. I was disappointed that I couldn't try the weapon modification system, especially with a bunch handed out in the second mission.

I also found it odd how few dialogue choices were present. In the previous games there were usually only one or two lines per dialogue choice. Also since I didn't really get a great impression from the demo, how will the morality system work in 3? I've seen that is one single bar now. So does it stack, giving both paragon and renegade options if you reach a certain point or just one when you reach it with that side?

So here are my impressions after just playing the earth mission:

First of all I really feel that stuff was cut from the demo so the beginning of the game isn't totally ruined. I fully expect a trial to happen at the beginng of the game based on how the arrival ended. I also think the opening earth level will be longer.

Overall the demo is amazing as expected considering how great the ME series is. I will say that I haven't played a ME game on consoles since the first one and now I remember why. Compared to the PC version of ME 2 the graphics look pretty bad, and there is plenty of slowdown that I am sure won't be present in the PC version.

OVerall I can't wait for 3-6!

I think the demo IS the full opening of ME3. Just like the ME2 demo was for ME2.

I can't believe people dismiss an entire company based off of ONE game as if no other dev have released at least one bad game since their inception. Fuck's sake...

Regardless of the actual flaws of DA2, it's more that people dislike EA, I think. As if Mass Effect was not a shooter under Microsoft's rule.

I loved ME1 for the RPG combat (Adept and Vanguard woohoo). Didn't play a Soldier so I never thought of the game as a shooter.

How does the ME3 demo compare?

Even leaving the "derp not an rpg anymore" stuff to the side, how much executive meddling do you really think EA is exerting over one of their premiere studios that consistently churns out financial and critical success after financial and critical success for them? There is this underlying assumption in many people's posts that everything bad that happens under EAs watch must have been their fault, but that everything good that happens is the developers succeeding in spite of their evil masters best efforts to the contrary.

Why is it hard to believe that Bioware wanted to fix the negative feedback they got from the first game (Terrible, unsatisfying shooting; terrible inventory; terrible Mako sections)? They obviously go into each game with the intention of making the best game they can with their resources (as most developers do), so don't these changes seem rational from their perspective? Don't forget that ME1 was already playing fast and loose with the RPG elements, so evidently "deep rpg gameplay" (LOL) was never any kind of sacred cow for them.

Demo has me hyped but I REALLY don't wanna playthrough Mass Effect 1 again on 360 (lost my save along time ago) and have never even finished ME2

Is there a way to just take a PC save (like from www.masseffectsaves.com) and convert it to work with the 360 version?

Please say yes =(

Yes. Using the Gibbed Save Editor you can convert between 360/PC very easily.

I don't know if you're argeeing with me or if you think that somehow I was saying "BioWare can do no wrong, shut up"?

Yep. Not to mention that it's from a totally different team.

Not really.

Darrah, Laidlaw, Gaider, Kirby, Lukas, Sheryl. All the main players were still there. Some people left, sure, but it's basically the same.

There is a way to convert a 360 save to a PC, I'm not sure if anybody has ever tried doing the reverse. In theory it may be possible to use this tool to open your PC save and save it as a 360 save (you can do the reverse). You will probably need to use this thread to format a flash drive to put the save on 360, although from there I don't know how it goes. How does one normally transfer save files via USB on 360?

You said that it wasn't a shooter under Microsoft. The implication is that EA is responsible for the game's transformation into "a shooter" (implying it's no-longer an RPG). I reject this assumption unless there is some evidence in support of it, and was further commenting that there was a trend to assume that once a big name publisher has taken over a company, people tend to assume that problems are the result of executive interference by said company, but that the good things in the games were all the developer. In reality, the situation is almost always more complicated, and publishers can be responsible for good changes, just like developers can be responsible for bad ones.
