Does anyone know how the load times are on the Wipeout game? How's the framerate?

How's the gameplay (I'm less concerned that this will be bad after the amazing PS3 and PSP wipeouts)?

A few people that I've mentioned the Vita to, one of the first things they say is "hopefully it gets jailbroken soon" or something to that effect.

Kind of bugs me cause that's what did the first PSP in. So much piracy on that system that no developer wanted to make games for it anymore.

I hope this doesn't happen too severely on the Vita, so at least we see a decent lifespan in software support. I don't like the idea of needing proprietary memory cards, but I can't blame Sony for doing anything that might stave off the inevitable jailbreak for at least a little while.

The only thing that would make me kinda happy is if the PSP emulator gets hacked. Leave the Vita side of things alone. The PSP is already pirated to shit so it wouldn't really be harmful to the Vita at all. It would only allow all of us with UMD's to play our games without having to pay twice and by buying them digitally. I could sell my PSP after that. Also memory card adapters. If it were ever possible to use SD cards or cheap un-official cards that would be nice.

Is the ability to controller map and use the dual analog and the better image quality a part of the OS and applied to every PSP game? Or is it only for certain games that have been patched on PSN?

It's an OS feature.

Just played the Vita at my "local" MediaMarkt ( Roermond, Netherlands ). The store was very crowded, but no one seemed interested in the Vita, so I could walk straight to the demo pod and play for about 40 minutes without anyone disturbing me. It was a strange feeling to see gamers looking for 360/PS3 and Wii games and not noticing the Vita...or just walking by. I mean, I drove 30 miles to try the Vita and those people are just walking by? I was like "WTF is going on". I hope that Sony is gonna get some airtime and will show some amazing gameplay footage because most people are unaware that the Vita is about to be launced. The lack of interest from people attending at the store confused me, to say the least.

Now for some impressions:

Hardware:
- Sticks ar tiny but they do the job remarkebly well
- Screen is not that big as I thought it would be.
- Screen looked awesome but it's ( imo ) not on par with my Iphone 4S screen ( maybe the brightness was not configured the right way )
- Could have been my imagination, but the touchscreen seemed a bit slow ( maybe dirty )
- Triggers are more responsive than on the PSP
- D-pad is great!
- Built quality was good, but it's a shame everything is so glossy...fingerprints everywhere. I'd love to see Sony releasing a matte Vita

Games/ Demos

- Motorstorm RC; disappointment. Graphics were kinda meh, and the cars were way too tiny to control
- Super Stardust Delta: looked very vibrant and played well. The tiny sticks make the game harder to control imo.
- Mod Nation: Framerate was not smooth to say the least. Not gonna buy this
- Wipeout 2048: Looked great, but it's definitely not on pat with the Wipeout HD. Some guys wrote that it even looked better than the PS3 version and that's definitely not true. Framerate was not stable. It seems that the retail version has a stable 30 fps...and I hope it's true because the framerate in the demo would be a real gamebreaker to me
- FIFA 12: Game looked great ( although the players are very tiny and it's hard to see which moves they pull off ) but played great with the sticks. Also some minor slowdown, but not too bad.
- Gravity Daze: Kinda hard too get into in a noisy store. Some minor graphical issues going on, but the game ( art direction ) looked great. The demo took some time to take off, at first you're playing a tutorial, but when the controls click, it feels magical. Day 1 for me.
- Ridge Racer. Better than I expected. Graphics aren't that great and some major framedrops. Game controlled well. Franchise starts to wear a bit thin for me.
- Escape plan: very nice 'little'game. Great art direction.
- Hot Shots Golf: seems like a lot of fun. Never played it on my PSP but I must admit I enjoyed it a lot. Graphics were okay
- Virtua Tennis 4: F**k me. The graphics looked really awesome. If you wanna show off your Vita this is the game to own. I must say that for me personally, this is the only game that made me think: hell, I'm playing on my PS3 right now. 60 fps, crisp graphics and great controls. For me, this was the most impressive game graphic wise. Gameplay wise it's Gravity Daze without any doubt.

Didn't try Michael Jackson Experience, Touch my Katamari , Reality Fighters and Little Deviants.

Unfortunately, Uncharted GA was not playable. A real shame I could not play this because I still don't know if I should keep my preorder now. If I found out Uncharted was awesome the decision would be a lot easier :D
Don't get me wrong, I love the device, loved Fifa 12, Virtua Tennis 4 and Gravity Daze but that may not be enough for me to make me buy this on day one.

Are the Sony protectors glossy? Wonder if they'll be noticeable on the screen.
I bought the Sony screen protector for my Vita on the basis of my experience with them on my PSPgos... On both PSPgos, they were easy to put on, and are so seemless that they're virtually invisible... In fact, it's pretty much impossible to tell they're installed! I'm hoping for the same quality and effect with the Vita once I get it installed on Wednesday.

Sounds like DS.
Not really... with the DS, you had to go out and buy the hardware, and the R2 or G3 or whatever carts weren't sold in stores (at least, they sure weren't sold in any stores around here), meaning you pretty much needed a credit card to get one, so there was that barrier of entry. With the PSP, all you had to do was copy a couple files you downloaded from the Internet to a memory card and run them; not a challenge for today's computer-savy kids. I agree that piracy no doubt hurt DS sales as well, but it was far more rampant on the PSP from what I saw... Hell, when you've got 70 Million systems sold worldwide, but you can't sell a million copies of a game like MGS:PW (a game that has what, 3 million downloads on the torrent sites now?) it's pretty hard to argue that piracy was not a significant factor in the PSP's crummy attach rate...

I hope it doesn't get jailbroken for the health of the system and the software.
I'm willing to bet that the Vita firmware* won't be breached in any fashion that allows for popular piracy for several years, if every, and I'm not a gambling man.

*(not talking about PSP emulation mode here, which we already know can run homebrew, though we don't know what the barrier to entry is - and I suspect that could be sufficiently complex to prove a deterent to general adoption)

Impressive source for Vita wallpapers :

Don't click the link if you have a poor connection.

So how do the Icons work, can you position them where ever you want on the screen? How come some of the images only have 4 slots for icons? Can you hide icons and only have a select few showing at your choice?

Very good find btw, some absolutely amazing work gone into some, nay, all of those. I'd love to see a Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets or Space Battleship Yamato/Starblazers one. I really should start learning how to use Gimp to create something of my own.

Sony probably makes more money from PSP and PS3 than Vita at this early stage. The best case scenario for them is to have gamers buy Vita with lots of games and accessories. I reckon the Vita ads will likely be tuned to core gamers.

I have the exact same reasoning for buying the Sony protectors. And if I agree with you, you must be right. :p

Why is Sony so fuckin' stupid?
Why the hell don't the understand that concave is much more better?
Damn! The same mistake over and over again!!!

They're not stupid. Concave is not always better.

Get one of those MLG controllers and you can test it all you like. Personally i've gone with a convex analog for left analog and concave analog for right.

That psp/mini compatibility list is kind of worrying, I thought psp mode on a vita was something you could throw any old game at. I even wanted to play Castlevania X and Where is my Heart when I got mine and I guess i'm not.

The site has the PSD templates for download, so you can fool around with those if you want.

Listening to the latest 8-4 Play podcast and IIRC they are the guys that are localising Gravity Daze. They're talking about having just finishing a project so perhaps they've just finished localising Gravity Daze since it is supposedly late because of localisation problems.

It's just a theory but if that is the case we could possibly expect it within the next month.

Calm the fuck down. Sony is the only one giving you analog sticks in the first place. So what does that make the 'competition'?

When will I stop being impressed by how well designed the device looks? It's gorgeous.

Hmm... I am very interested. The back part of my Vita has been scratched very lightly in one spot (somehow) so I was hoping there would be some sort of protector for it (and the front). Looks like I finally found one. Thanks! I think I'm going to pick this up and another screen protector for the back.

Already? Ouch.

I guess with my White PSP it wasn't easy to tell any hairline scratches.. I'll probably buy a second white Vita if they ever become available.

I'm under embargo until the 15th, but IGN/US could probably be a day ahead.

Yeah, my mate here has had a Vita from SOny for about a week with 6 games and he himself is under embargo too. He's told me a little bit, offered an invite to come over and check it out (He's a reviewer, I used to contribute to the same site) but I said I don't want the surprise ruined for me and will happily wait till launch. He's had nothing but positive things to say about it and even said that the 'Near' has told him 2-3 people within a 9km radius have them as well. I can't wait to see this, so glad I ordered the 3g.

Lol piracy did not kill the PSP. Otherwise the DS would have died too.

Because it's not entirely accurate (Escape Plan isn't retail) or complete, and compared to the one I spent days doing (here) it's quite lacking.

Just on a personal level, that's all.

Fair enough. I hadn't seen yours before, the one I posted popped up on Twitter a while ago so I thought I'd see if it had any unknowns on it.

I hate review embargos. Especially for system launches.
In a perfect world, they'd work like the movie industry and only hold off on reviews for crappy games until release day... but no.

Same situation here at Fnac stores in Belgium, nobody cared about the Vita demo pods and I could play Vita for hours undisturbed if I wanted, everybody walking by and not caring one bit. Most kids were crowding the MW3 ps360 stations and couldn't care less about this new system, really sad to see how Sony just does not seem to care about any marketing whatsoever, unless you can count those ripoff preorder packages as marketing.

Probably because the PlayStationEU twitter feed only tweets to the Official PlayStation Magazine site. Making it all the more annoying... =)

Am i right in saying i will need multiple cards if im to use my us and jap psn accounts as well as my uk one?

How does this work on the vita. Will i get a choice of which account to log into like on ps3 startup. Once there all setup of course.

So basically id sign into relevant account on my ps3 and vita and transfer content that way, and obviously have correct memory card inserted.

Ultimately , we got to the point where you didn't need anything extra to CFW your PSP, the DS at least needed you to go buy an R4 or whatever.

I'm pretty sure that had an effect - the other thing was that the DS crowd pulled in a whole ton of players who weren't traditional techy leaning gamers as well with Brain Training etc.

I'm sure you're right and piracy didn't kill the PSP - but i'm pretty sure it's one of 3 or 4 very large factors that harmed it (definitely in the west)

you will have to factor reset your machine each time you want to switch accounts - there's no quick log in/out a la PSP over wireless unfortunately. Not tried to get multiple user data onto one card as i had multiple cards in preperation (and i initially got "this card can only be used by account <account name> - to use this card you must format it now" warning - but apparently you can skip this step - never tried, can anyone fill us in on this please?)

Sometimes I hate gaffers, hyping everything, which as a result make me spent my money. :p
But this time I'm strong I tell ya muaha! Resisting the urge!

Piracy affected PSP in Asia as well. In the Philippines you can walk into a store in an official mall in the middle of Manila and get your PSP home brewed, even buy illegal games behind the desk.

Is it possible for the right analog stick to emulate the face buttons when playing PSP games?

Im playing Peace Walker and can't figure out how to do it. :(
