I wish I was as optimistic about the Vita as he is. I only agree with a handful of the points he makes and don't have faith in Sony to make the right decisions to make the platform succeed.

That said, the 22nd can't get here soon enough.
I'm super-excited for the system, but I have nightmares where it bombs Virtual Boy style. That could never happen, right? Right?

Question: Ther's any kind of advertising of Vita in your country? Here in italy only in specialized stores like Mediaworld or Gamestop and not so visible.

Hey Laser,

Which one would you recommend? Skinomi or Barrier Chief?

I have no idea, personally.

You can look up impressions on Skinomi's covers for other devices. They do the thick "tough skin" style like Zagg that you have to put on wet. Zagg's film has an orange peel feel to it that I do not want, and I don't know how Skinomi compares. Someone in the haul thread got one a couple of days ago, but I'm guessing they don't have their Vita yet.

I first saw Barrier Chief's name pop up in this thread and I really like the template they use, but I haven't heard of anyone actually trying one out yet.

The template Hori uses for their full-face film doesn't inspire confidence in me. The little pieces that curve around the buttons and sticks don't look like they will stay stuck for long. When parts of a dry film have a small surface area, they start to come loose as dust gets in around the edges.

Personally I also avoid matte films. It's nice to not have glare, but they will make the screen less sharp and colorful and that's not something I'm willing to compromise on.

I like the "static cling" dry covers, but those unfortunately only work on flat surfaces (hence why the Barrier Chief only covers front and back, not the sides). I will probably end up with the Barrier Chief one or something similar. My day 1 plan is to buy the official 2-pack of Sony films and put them on the front and back, to have decent protection until I can decide on something else.

You don't happen to have any links to North American sellers with the Hori TPU cover do you?
Nah but it's less than $20 on the import sites. I've read negative things about Hori's silicone cover (the strips above and below the screen fitting loosely from the outset) so I'm waiting to see what someone says about the TPU cover after having it for a week or two before I consider it.

See the shit you learn from being anal retentive about your smartphone?

Is the setting overridden if you're plugged into the mains?

i'm not sure - i'll try it tomorrow i guess. 3:14 am here - time for my ugly sleep :D

So is Fifa available on any PSN store?

i am going to be hitting psn store every 10 minutes now for Fifa / Lumines etc... my cards are ready!

Couple of quick and random Vita questions.

Do the trophies sync automatically, or does it work PS3 style with a manual sync?

Does Playstation Plus integrate into the Vita experience? Cloud saves for example?

Manual sync and I believe it has cloud saves, not 100% sure on that one though.

Do we know what the free PSN game is that comes with the 3G launch bundle? Amazon page just calls it a "free game voucher". Hopefully its not for Super Stardust because I bought that already.

Ideally, itll be a "free PSN game up to 15 bucks" kinda thing and we get to pick.

Just a warning folks: 32GB cards seem to be low in stock (Texas here).

I went to Gamestop today and they had a ton of the other memory cards in, but only two 32GB cards and they both were already sold. Had to go to the Gamestop in the mall to get the only 32GB card they had in stock.

Glad I got one at least, woo!

Not surprised. Early adopters are likely hardcore gamers, and them buying the 32BG card 'just to be sure' sounds about right.

This talk about the memory cards makes me realize how hopelessly consumerist our society is.

We are upset at the possibility of not being able to spend 100 U.S. DOLLARS on 32gb of storage on launch day.

Did you have it preordered?

Whats the likelihood that a 4g variant will be released in the near future? Basically, why should I get a 3g over wifi at this time?

I would say that if the hardware launch is successful enough (i.e. the console lives long enough), 4G is likely, if the networking on the go aspects are successful. As to why you should get 3G, maybe you shouldn't.

I will get a 3G because the 3G bundle comes with a 8GB memory stick and the promise of a free game on activation (I expect it will be a cheapie, though). It also has GPS. Plus I don't really care if it costs a few bucks more - chances are it will be worth an extra $20 or so during resale anyways. I'm not 100% sure I will use the 3G feature very often. But between now and the 2+ years before a redesign is likely to be launched, I have the option of using 3G, at very little extra cost / commitment up front.

Has anyone played or have any positive impressions of Ridge Racer yet?

Always enjoyed Ridge Racer. Was initially pissed off at the stupid model they took with regards to DLC, but now they're throwing in some extra for the Western launch for free (taking it upto 10 cars and 6 tracks), the game doesn't seem that terrible to me now at a budget price of £18. Would be interested to know if the game itself is any good.

Okay, should I get HSG or Katamari? I've only had 1 HSG game before. I'm just afraid golf has limited appeal. Is it a fun game?

Or should I get Ridge Racer?

I also want to know that.

I'm sure you're right and piracy didn't kill the PSP - but i'm pretty sure it's one of 3 or 4 very large factors that harmed it (definitely in the west)
It's amazing to me that I know 6 people who purchased PSPs and only one of them actually purchased legitimate software. The other literally bought them to play pirated games. :\ I wouldn't be surprised if this was common.

wait, I thought wifi model also has GPS?

It's a glossy filter that covers the screen and most of the front of the vita.

@ raven - only 3G has GPS built in.

Wouldn't suprise me - among 5 or 6 friends I have who also have or had psp only 2 of us were spending cash on games.

I have an Amazon pre-order with a bunch of credit applied to it. I was thinking of just listing it on eBay as soon as it arrives, but now I'm starting to get caught up in the launch hype.

The thing is...

What do I need a Vita for? I'm a grown man with a home theater in my man cave. I'm a normal American and must drive my own vehicle to-and-from work. What the hell would I do with a Vita?

...and with all that said, why do I still want one?

I'm getting it to play Vita games.
Only reason anyone should need.

Uncharted requires 2.8 gb on memory card or did I oversee something? If it's true I'm wondering what's in the actual game cartridge...

You could play Vita games on it! That would be cool! Like wipeout and stuff.

No the list of games with the sizes in the OP is for the amount of space you'll need on your memory card for the game if you choose to buy it on PSN (as all Vita games will available as a downloadable) instead of buying the game cart.

If you get the game card itself, its 64 MB as the front of the box indicates.

A question to those of you with Vitas already:

Does playing PSP software on the Vita look "natural"? What I mean is, if you play DS games on a 3DS it is very apparent from the image quality that the games were made for a different system, whether its because of poor filtering, colours are off, lower resolution, etc. Does the Vita also have this problem? Looking at videos and screenshots of PSP games played on a Vita it seems fine, but I was just wondering what it looks like in person.

Are you guys that are opting for the FEB doing so for the early release? Cause it would seem the 3g bundle would be the better deal right?

Aw, thanks a lot!

Also, man, what a bunch of garbage I had to deal with my Gamestop purchase.

"Do you have any 32GB cards?"
"Let me check in the back."

*rummages around the back*

Employee: "Hey man...can I ask you a really, seriously important question?"
"What?"
"Are you afraid of dropping your system?"
"Uh...no..."
*gives me a totally blank stare*
"I mean, sure, I guess..."
"THEN YOU'RE TOTALLY GONNA NEED THIS!" *pulls out NERF protective armor*

:|

Then he tried to convince me why I need a Starter Kit instead of the protective film...had to say no three times...gah!

put in a good 50 or so hours on the Vita playing MH3rdP and a few other games and everything looks fine to me.

I prefer the look of the "vita palette" (you can force the PSP palette in the options to make it more accurate/negate some blue tint effect (don't remember the details))

Hard cases just provide 2 surfaces between which to grind dust and dirt against your device. Same thing with silicone covers. They cause these problems even for glass phones which are MUCH harder to scratch than the Vita's plastic.

If you want an all-the-time cover for the Vita (to protect against drops), my recommendations are:
a.) Put an all-around film cover like Skinomi or Barrier Chief on your Vita, then put that in your cover of choice.
b.) Barring the film, get a TPU cover, provided that it has a nice tight fit around the seams. Hori makes one I believe, though I don't know how good the fit is. It will let less dust in than a silicone or polycarbonate cover, and holds it's shape much better than the former.

Damn. Now I really have to rethink my crystal case. Yeah, I'll probably get a protective film then. Thanks for the heads up.

I just want the case. I guess extra week is a bonus.
Depends on what you want but for most the 3G bundle is a better deal.

Sigh my Gamestop here in Alberta won't break the street date for the Vita games or accessories. I told them that every other Gamestop across Canada has started selling them but they said not until the 15th. I'll have my Vita from Amazon.ca on Monday or Tuesday, guess I may have to wait.

Ugh, that reminds me of when I worked at Gamestop for the PSP launch. We were basically told by the DM that we need to sell at least 2 accessories or get 2 reserves per purchase, or face repercussions if we don't.

I handled the launch, and pretty much sold nothing that wasn't asked for. When the DM questioned me as to why, I asked him if he bought his PSP that night at his local GameStop. He said yes. I asked him how many accessories he bought with it. He said none. I just got up and walked out on him at that point. It also helped that after that, we were both up at the counter, and someone came in to reserve a few games, and actually thanked me for not pushing products down his throat, and getting him in and out as soon as possible, so he could go home and enjoy his system.

God, I hated that job. But, I also really didn't care about it, except for always giving good customer service.

Wait what? Are we talking about the PDP Crystal Case here? Cuz what you're saying doesn't apply if so.

3G is definitely the better deal. Not really much of a question.

I was going to go with the 3G myself but the case with the FEB is really nice, I prefer it over all the other cases available. And I don't plan on buying any games digitally anyway so the 4 GB vs 8 GB isn't a huge factor for me. Couldn't care less about Little Deviants though.

Well, here's my plan for the Vita. Traded some of my Steam inventory (specfically, Skyrim + Witcher 2) for 100 dollars in Amazon.

3G launch Bundle
Uncharted Golden Abyss
FIFA 12
A carrying case.

Basically, with FIFA 12, I'll be set for a while as I'm a FIFA junkie and the train rides to school will be much easier. Uncharted is more for showing off than anything else and I'm a bit curious at the story as well.

I'm just wondering which cases can hold game cards and the usb chargers as well. If there no other cases that offer those features, I might just opt for the FEB bundle, but hesitating because of the drop from 4 to 8 gigs since I plan on putting some of my PSP Go games on my Vita. Hmm, anyway you guys think Uncharted is worth it or should I just go for another game?
