Ouch, some of the review scores are now justifying my resistance to buying day 1.

Lame, I wanted to want this more than I actually want this.

Doesn't help I finally played a demo unit, and wasn't instantly impressed. It's overall slightly too big for my hands, and the buttons too small, and the sticks a little strange.

The review scores are fine.

/sigh, so looking at Giantbomb this morning, with the 2 reviews they have for Vita games so far...of course they would have to have Jeff being the one reviewing everything...

I love GB, and Jeff can be a funny guy, but seriously, you couldn't pick a more jaded person out of all of giantbomb to review Vita titles. He's already expressed his disinterest in the platform, and what it means for gaming. There are so many more open minded individuals among the giantbomb crew that could've been the first one to get their hands on the platform.

It's more lame for you to base your decision on other peoples opinions. I don't care if a game scores low or high, my ownresearch and own mind can make that call. I swear we go through this every time. Reviews hit and there are some who always say they suck but when stuff gets too low/high, people say "no buy".

The one exception with me is Wipeout. The load times are not good but the game is so good and pretty that it's worth it for the 30 I paid for.

I'm in awe over how terrible that Gizmodo review was. I don't care that he's not really loving the device, but the angle taken on the review totally misses the mark. Within the first two lines I knew where we were headed, and it was down the wrong path.

Theirs is the one review that pretty much hit the nail on the head. What about it bothers you so much? And his score of 3.5/5 is good.

Sony confirms PS Vita 1st Party digital only game prices

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-02-13-sony-confirms-ps-vita-1st-party-digital-only-game-prices

"Sony has confirmed the UK pricing for first-party digital-only PlayStation Vita games.
Five games have been readied for digital release by Sony in time for Vita's 22nd February launch.

Here's the list and price:

Escape Plan: £9.99
Top Darts: £6.49
Hustle Kings: £6.49
Super Stardust: Delta: £6.49
MotorStorm RC: £4.79

Escape Plan is an eye-catching, stylised side-scrolling platform puzzle game. Top Darts does exactly what it says on the tin. Hustle Kings is a 3D pool sim. Super Stardust: Delta is the latest in Housemarque's popular arcade shooter series, and MotorStorm RC is a Micro Machines-esque version of the PlayStation-exclusive off-road rally game.
You can access the PlayStation Store direct from the Vita to download these games.

I have had no enthusiasm for the Vita. I have a PSP 1000 that I bought Day 1, and I think it is an unwieldy turd of a handheld (however, I do love my PSP Go). The Vita is even larger and the dual thumb-sticks sound painful. But, I had a few DS Lites and 360 gathering dust (I have a DSi and 3DS and bought a replacement Slim), and GameStop was giving some pretty incredible trade-in values. I ended up with a Vita pre-order for $56. I guess I better work up some lather for this.

If 6 and 7 ares good?

Outside of FIFA (don't want) and Uncharted (mildly want).. there's Super Start Dust that's getting what would be considered high aggregate review scores. The rest are all over the place.

7 is fine. That to me is a GOOD score. There are a few 8's in there too.

Something for everyone in this launch lineup. Well, no JRPG or FPS. But they will come along soon enough.

A lot of the Vita reviews are expressing concern that it will end up like the PSP. A sobering reminder that I'm one of the few who loved my PSP and it's small but quality library.

I agree. Mostly if it's not some type of dudebro game, Jeff sets the low-bar in terms of review scores from my perspective. Funny guy, but not my favorite reviewer out there.

The review scores are fine.
They're fine for us... the discerning hardcore gaming enthusiast.
They're an absolute disaster for a portable that has literally every gaming media outlet on the planet lining up to take shots at it and Joe Public Consumer completely oblivious to its existence.
SMARTPHONE USERS IGNITE. EXCELSIOR!

According to the majority of review scales, 7 is the very definition of good.
Joe Public doesn't consider 7s to be good. It's the very reason Bioware and other companies hand out bags of money to ensure crap like Dragon Age II gets 8s and higher.

I loved the PSP. One of the best consoles ever.
And I feel the library is pretty good. There are more good games on the PSP than on the HD consoles if you ask me.

The PSP in the west is one of the most baffling things ever to me. I seriously just can't even begin to understand why it became what it did.

Also about Jeff of GB. He seems to only ever get excited about shooters and old stuff. But I'm just a casual GB fan, so I don't know.

So, what does the DLC for Super Stardust Delta contain?
Was it revealed?

The DLC, entitled “The Blast Pack” includes Endless, Bomber, Impact and Twin Gun modes and will be priced at $8 in the US so we assume around £5 in the UK. It will also be available with the other half of the game as a bundle entitled the “Interstellar Pack”. That’s priced at $14.99 so we would assume it’ll be a touch over £10 in the UK.

So Engadget just posted a review of the US Vita today. And they compared the PSP game emulation side-by-side.

Except they put up a picture of Mega Man Powered Up, a game that isn't released on the US PSN, and is UMD only (the Vita can't interface with UMDs in the US).

Vita hackery? How are they playing it?

vita-review-us8248.jpg

Army Corps still getting slammed by reviewers and yet I still want to play it. I may hold off on it until a price drop because it still sounds like fun. It just doesn't sound like $40 worth of fun.

And I may switch my Shinobido over to Ninja Gaiden and trust that it's a quality port. I'm stil trying to decide between them.

But are those scores 'good' in a 'buy a new console to play this' type of way?

For me, yes. There are games I'm excited about on the machine coming out at launch. I feel no buyers remorse paying for this thing in full a couple of months ago. Especially after I tried a few games this weekend.

A lot of people who have played Uncharted on here have really enjoyed it. That alone has gotten me excited. Also looking forward to playing some A-Sync games in HSG. With MLB 12 right around the corner I think I'm going to be just fine for the next little while.

Same here. Bought a PSP day 1. I remember sneaking out from work to find one at a local Target store. Bought it at 3 or 4 games and really loved it. It was way ahead of its time, and the Vita seems similar.

Because you can't name a single Mario-esque must-have-for-the-masses for it. DS also took off because they smartly appealed to casual gamers. Sony's attempt to appeal to casual gamers was the god-awful Minis.

yeah, exactly. I don't care about review scores, and they will never be what determines my purchase of a video game. It's just the truth of the matter is that review scores do matter. They matter to in the overall sales, because people do get swayed by them. It may not be me, and it may not be most people on here who like to make their own decisions. But there are a lot of morons out there who base their purchases around them sadly.

Wasn't MM powered up on PSN at one time? I can't remember, but I think it was. I just know it isn't now :(

Might just be a JPEG or something that they uploaded to both units. Or maybe they're showing a Japanese Vita, since they've had one since last year that they reviewed.

That's why I like Jeff as a reviewer. At least with his review I know he isn't blinded by hype like so many other reviewers. He's giving it to us straight. Plus it's good to have a perspective from someone who is pretty much indifferent to the thing when first touching it.

What does appealing to casual gamers have to do with anything? At the time the PSP was released, casual gaming wasn't really a thing yet.
The HD consoles didn't try to appeal to casual gamers until very recently. And they sold fine.

And as much as I love my Mario, I really don't see how it's a "must have" more than any other good game.

If you don't mind ports there are some pretty amazing games.

Marvel vs Capcom 3 is a near perfect 60 fps port of the console game. It's a great game and it includes more features.

BlazBlue is in a similar spot as MvC3 being a fantastic port of a console fighter.

Virtua Tennis 4 is also a perfect port of the console game. Another 60 fps fast paced game that seems well suited to mobile play.

Rayman Origins was one of the best platforming games in years and should look absolutely incredible on an OLED screen.

Ninja Gaiden was one of the best games ever released for XBOX and having a 60 fps (I hope) port of this game on a mobile platform is pretty insane.

Escape Plan looks pretty original and brilliant.

Motorstorm RC should be solid as well.

Shinobido 2 looks like a great game for those who enjoyed Tenchu. Not a must have, but solid.

Wipeout is Wipeout and Katamari is Katamari.

All of those games should be pretty excellent but reviews have only touched on a small chunk of them.

He gives it to people straight based on his narrow viewpoint. He is really really jaded, and is easily quick to judge. I've listened to the bombcast for years, and watched quick looks for just as long, and I just feel like I know how he thinks after all this time. You can tell he already has preconceptions about something as soon as he sees it.

Other guys on GB at least give something the benefit of the doubt. Ryan, and Vinny especially will start something, maybe not get the best first impression from it, but will continue onward, and it'll grow on them. Jeff looks at something and pretty much maintains the same viewpoint when he first saw it.

Guess what, a lot of game reviewers think the Vita is going to fail and are reviewing the launch games.

UPS is killing me. If I have to wait this long for my Vita. I might go ahead and cancel my Amazon pre-order. One of the drawbacks to purchasing release day products online.

Give me reasons why the PSP should have sold better then. I can give you many reasons why it didn't. Not appealing to casuals is a huge reason it didn't launch well or sell great over time. Offering a console-esque experience may sound like a plus, but many people I know have zero interest in that on a handheld. It's why they buy consoles. To me personally it's no surprise why the PSP did poorly (relatively, because I still think it was a success of sorts for Sony). Sadly Sony's doing absolutely nothing different this time around to attract a wider audience. I reserve the right to be pleasantly surprised if they eventually do though.

Ha ha, the answer probably isn't what you expected but here goes...

They are playing a copy of Maverick Hunter X (on PSN) which just so happens to include a playable demo of Megaman Powered Up! So, for whatever reason, they chose to tease people with a screenshot of Powered Up running from within MHX. No hackery here.

Japanese account. The JP version is on the UMD Passport program.

edit: or what dark10x said.

DJ Max Technika is confirmed by Playstation Korea, everything else is cherry on top. God I will play the shit out of this game.

Also, Sony should be consistent - do not make it a casual platform just yet, open cheque book, fork the money to get exclusive hardcore titles. Get S-E to move their ass and announce Type-0 with huge ONLY FOR VITA in the headline. Then make them cancel PS3 version of FFX, release it only for Vita. Get Capcom to make Monster Hunter 4our EX ULTRA on Vita.

Fuck FPS, nobody plays them on handhelds anyway. Get Bioware to do Mass Effect for Vita.

Boom, watch it sell.

Yes it will cost shitload of money. No worries, you will get it back in a year.

As I noted above, it's the demo. They have a shot of them installing the US verison of MHX which includes the demo of Powered Up.

edit: Whoops, I was too quick there. You saw it. :P

A lot of us gamers think the Vita is going to fail and we're still falling all over ourselves to buy one. I hope the masses embrace it, because I really want this thing to have great support that doesn't necessarily include a bunch of console games like we're getting at launch. More stuff like Gravity Daze please.
