I played Rayman Origins up till the end of the easy levels. I cant wait to try and fully complete the hard stuff, seems like its made for portable gaming.

Rayman Origins is the shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. I assume most people in this thread are getting a Vita? Buy Rayman, if you haven't got it for some other platform (or planning to get it for PC).

Just... buy Rayman.

If you buy a Vita Amazon has it for 15GBP/25EUR, I'm buying it on launch day.

Also - Kao Kao, wtf Jeff? Can't you learn after like 15 Musou games?

I kind of want Rayman but I have a feeling it'll drop in price quickly. Ugh. Too many games I want.

I'm gonna end up buying too much shit for this thing. I see it already :(

I'm counting on Sony expanding Remote Play support. I already own the game on PS3, but barely play it. Seems well-suited to a handheld, but i don't want to double-dip.

Yeah they have different opinions and shit.

How dare they...

Just because they aren't gushing over it doesn't make them wrong or right.

It's called opinions and different tastes.

Or, you could actually ask what I mean instead of taking a massive jump to conclusions, which you did.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with differing opinions. It is natural. Recently, though, these guys seem to be nothing but negative. Someone else earlier in the thread voiced the same opinion--it's like they think it's "cool" to be cynical and negative. They seem to be growing more and more bitter about gaming in general.

I find it irritating and off-putting.

I guess we'll just have to disagree.

I just can't see how the Vita's existence is supposed to be a bad thing for the industry.

How is developers going out of business a good thing for the industry? Are we not seeing the same doom being written about the Vita all over the place? It already has a negative stigma being attached to it.

Here's another way to look at it, social gaming out there is good for the industry at the moment, but it's not great for us core gamers. What Activision does with how they pump yearly updates year after year is good for them, but not great for us as gamers.

The fact is, what's good for the gamer doesn't always mean what's good for the industry. I think the Vita looks great; in fact I'm planning 6 to 8 retail games at launch. It excites me as a core gamer, but I think there is a much higher risk factor on this platform for a developer right now because as some would like to have it, handheld gaming devices as we know it are on their way out and unfortunately it'll suck for us core gamers because it might be true.

I wasn't expecting to buy a Vita for launch, but now I kind of sort of really want one. What games would you guys recommend? Uncharted looks a tad underwhelming to me, and it doesn't seem like it has an online component. Racing games aren't really my thing either. Any suggestions?

Super Stardust and Escape Plan on launch day. Gravity Rush launch window. You should buy Lumines and Golden Abyss too, just after a price drop.

Less than 3 months ago they released a metric fuckton of GOTY material. "have you ever had sex with a space pharoah?" You guys filter out opinions you disagree with and like to highlight single statements or throwaway phrases that support your own opinion. They obviously enjoyed both Super Stardust, UMVC, and Lumines. Maybe they don't like Wipeout like you do.

Why do you want one if you dont even have any ideas for what games you want?

This guy seems to know what he's talking about. If you like platformers and/or good games, you owe it to yourself to play Rayman. I have it on PS3 but I'm gonna double dip on the Vita version.

That kind of logic applies to Nintendo as well but they seem to be doing well.

If Sony play their cards correctly, they should be able to ride on the new trends, even with Vita, rather than getting stuck in dinosaur business models. In the mean time, they can keep serving the so-called core gamers.

Actually, I came in to post that my local GameStop has taken their Vita out of the plastic cover. You can play with Uncharted, Gravity Rush, Little Deviants and other launch games now. <3 Gravity Rush.

The anti-theft cable they attached to the Vita unit obstruct gyro gaming though. 8^(

EDIT: Also confirmed with the dudes there that my 32Gb memcard is in their back room together with my FEB. Now all I need to focus on is my wife's Valentines Day gift.

the Vita is out in ONE region and it's already going to be responsible for developers going out of business??!

Console-like experiences on the go are fine so long as you take advantage of what tools the Vita has uniquely available to enhance that experience.

For instance, you can't experience gyrometric aiming on a console right now. You can when you're playing Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Resident Evil: Revelations and Ocarina of Time... and depending on the execution, this can enhance the experience these perennial console games can provide in the handheld environment. Chances are we're going to be seeing more of this style of gameplay when the Wii U and the X360 successor hits so it's fun to get a taste of the future now.

They have always been cynical...it's kinda who they are (at least Jeff and Ryan).

They don't have to enjoy everything do they?Besides that's the only reason you would go here to see what THEIR opinion is..it's not the end all be all but it's their opinion.

That's all.

I think I just fail to see how people making games for the Vita are supposed to be more likely to go out of business than people making games on anything else.

Maybe I'm just slow and dumb. But I just absolutely cannot see it.

Just to confirm; Does Vita support PSOne classics at day 1? Ex. Final Fantasy IX.

I just saw someone asking here whether there are plans to support PSOne games, until my browser crashed and was unable to reply..

Halfway between reasonable and overpriced, I think.
Yeah that's what I meant, essentially anyway. Not that I wouldn't prefer $20 for a game like this, but $30 I can swallow, especially since it helps that Lumines is flashier and has more licensing involved. $40's just too much for me when I wasn't even the biggest fan of the original. Hell, I'd have a hard time feeling it was just if I WAS a bigger fan since this is neither a niche/indie effort that needs to make up for lower sales, or a bigger title that cost quite a bit to make in the first place.

Man...
So not only is Amazon not offering release date shipping for the FEBs anymore, the order i placed yesterday with overnight shipping won't arrive until Friday.

???

I called a couple times and talked to incompetent people.. who all said that's the fastest it can be shipped.
Thinking about just skipping the FEB all together. The case is pretty much the only thing I want from it.

Is 5 days early worth it?
I'll be selling little deviants and the 4gb card.

Well looks what arrived at my office today!

Sounds about right to my expectations, expected Army Corps of Hell to score higher though! Although that might be an acquired taste with the music and art.

Looks like Rayman is up now.

Same here. :(
It's disappointing, it's getting harsh reviews everywhere...

I don't think it applies to Nintendo at all. They have a long history that you can look at to see what you can expect out of Nintendo. You can always expect the first party stuff to be the strong selling point of the platform and that is something you have to weigh in on when you develop on a Nintendo platform. Nintendo handhelds were a safe and dependable platform to develop on at a low cost. 3DS changed that because they stumbled with it in a couple areas that were clear to anyone paying attention before it launch (ie price, and the name confusion).

Sony on the other hand has to move beyond them being associated with the PSP, they have to move beyond the negative press they've had recently, they have to move beyond the negative stigma that the media is already applying to the Vita, they have to deal with the rise in development costs that this platform is going to demand in order to make games that look good and stand out, they're going to have to somehow deal with the popularity of iOS devices and cheap gaming that is damaging the industry, and deal with a Nintendo handheld that is now about $100 cheaper at the moment.

The Vita itself is a great piece of hardware that has a lot going for it despite the proprietary memory cards. The issue isn't the hardware. It's all the other factors going against it and a change in trend in the industry that the Vita doesn't mesh up well with.

Another way to look at it, at the same respective timeframes, the PSP had a much higher prosperous outlook than the Vita does. Sony has their work cut out for them and on a scale that reflects riskier vs safer, the Vita is definitely on the riskier side of the scale.
