Aww yeah. No labs this week for CompSci or Physics. But on the downside, I have exams in Calc, Physics, and CompSci this week and next.

Ugh, in my Distributed Systems class, I'm about at the point where I have to join a group
and actually start paying attention to the class material
. I hate group projects. I always end up doing far more than my fair share when I'm in a group.

Also, Monday classes aren't as fun as I expected, because I'm incompetent when it comes to choosing a time to sleep. Getting a pocket-sized Internet device only made this problem worse.

The other one is a job in Poland D: So that one is actually more of a concern because I could actually get MONEY for it. And live in EUROPE.

It wouldn't start until September though, if I did get it.

Just in time for a Polish winter. =O

Would your manfriend pack up and follow?

Edit: Current conditions in Warsaw. 21*F with a light snow mist.

I like snow :D

... sometimes.

If I were there, it would make it easier for me to visit him. So that would make me quite happy :D

Oh. Neat!

Is it an art job or a translation job?

Translating art.

Just teaching for now. It would give me a nice opening into Europe though. Might make it easier to search for other types of jobs (and studying.)

Started playing a bit of Xenogears last night. I decided I just had to play it (the first disc, anyway.) I've never been able to understand why people call this an ugly game. I thought it looked great when I played the demo in 1998 or whenever it was. I thought it looked great when I played through it fully in 2005. And I STILL think it looks great in 2012.

Yeah. It is a strange mix of 3D and 2D. I suppose some of mechs can look a bit ugly in battles, but for the most part the art isn't that bad.

I also don't like the battle system much for mech fights. The normal battle is pretty good though.

I'm too nerdy for my own good. I've got my chat client open. Three tabs.

In one tab, my friend Cory and I are discussing the theories for Naruto.

In another tab, my friend Jamie and I are discussing string theory in Physics

and in the final tab, my friend Vince and I are discussing what makes levelling systems within RPGs great and what breaks them.

Xenogears holds up well imo. Starting a play through myself soon after I finish up my FF IX replay.

Keep in mind, you can break the game once Vivi gets Reflect All ability.

Reflect your strongest spells off of your own party and hit whatever mob 4x in a row. With a maxed out Vivi, you'll be reigning down Hell upon foes to the tune of 9999x4

Way ahead of you Dave :) It's taken me this long to beat it because I have refused to finish the game until everyone was ridiculously overpowered.

I love that game. I iso'd my disks and put them on my homebrewed PSP. I've beaten it several times over.

This is my first play through in a few years. It's been a lot of fun. ChronoCross is next up to bat.

edit: Stuck @ work, missing the NY GAF meetup. FML. I am far too nice for my own good.

I remember quite liking mech fights (I'm not even a mech fan.) Fuel gauge can be kind of annoying, but I don't recall it being too much of a problem though.

I was thinking about playing this myself, but I think after Xenogears I want to play through all the PS1 games that I HAVEN'T finished yet. Please note that this is quite a large number.

Just looking through my list, I have...

Saga Frontier I and II
Breath of Fire III and IV
Koudelka
Mermanoid (JP only RPG. Yes, it's an RPG about what its title sounds like.)
Persona
Persona 2 (both games)
Wild Arms I and II
Silent Hill
Vagrant Story

Most of these games are anywhere from half played through to "just before the final boss" played through. I'm just bad with finishing games :/

I never beat Xenogears. I got stuck on the last boss of the first disc, I think.

Great music though.

I got to the final dungeon years ago. I kept running out of fuel during the penultimate boss fights. I did some reading and found that I needed Z-Chargers on all my main-party gears, but those things cost like a million gold (or whatever the currency was) apiece. I started grinding to raise the cash, but after buying one or two of the chargers, I realized I didn't give enough of a fuck to see it through to completion.

At the shop before the last boss, I sold every single thing that wasn't equipped on my mechs, in order to afford any extra upgrades I could get. It still took a few tries for me to beat it, but I did.

:(

Sitting with raw power, talking about how we're going to mess with the other gaffers. Ideas?

It is not a problem, no. My issue with the battle system is more along the lines of it being pretty simplistic in comparison to the normal battle system. The normal battle system is actually pretty interesting. I liked it a lot more. I think it is kind of similar to the chrono trigger battle system.

Does my avatar have bad aliasing? I'm no good at photoshop stuff and I used some vector program to smooth it out but I feel it's still jagged. Is there like a gimp tutorial somewhere? It's driving me nuts.

Looks ok on my end but I do not have the highest resolution computer.
