The hype is insane, not happy about the crazy cheering that he got in Toronto when he hit the winning shot

But I guess being an Asian star does sell in Toronto

What the fuck? Really?

It's interesting how people react to this. A guy at work was pretty high on Lin, until he found out that he was a Christian. Then he went from being high on him to saying that he was getting way too much press, and that people are getting sick of hearing about him. Either way he seems like he could be decent, and I'm happy for him that he took advantage of the shot that he was given, regardless of his religion.

At the rate this guy is going he is going to be more Marketable than Jordan in his prime.

Does it really matter that Lin is a Christian TBH? I didn't even know until I saw it on GAF. The kid isn't "Tebowing" or anything like that. He's humble and playing amazing. So... yea. /rant. sorry. This is not directed at you just in general.

Yeah, a lot of my friends were going insane over him on Facebook and Twitter. Even I'm beginning to buy into the hype. However, I'm a Raptors fan first, so I'll go the Dwayne Casey route and wish him luck, but not when he plays against the Raptors. Not that he really needs it anyway. And coincidentally, it was Asian Heritage night last night in Toronto, so that may explain the crazy cheering. But I suppose it would probably be as loud on any other night.

I don't think his religion is a big deal. It's not like he's shoving it down everyone's throats.

It doesn't really matter, in my opinion. I try to take the stance of respecting other people's religious beliefs. The kid is playing great, if you can't look past his religion and get behind his underdog story, then you have issues to resolve that don't likely involve basketball. Likewise this isn't pointed at you, just throwing my opinion out there.

Damn. Only a 3.1 at Harvard? Average is like a 3.5. His parents must be disappointed. Good thing he can play basketball since he'd never get hired at Morgan Stanley or Goldman.

To be fair, every person who loses interest in the Lin story after finding out he's Christian will be replaced by five who will become Lin fans for the same reason, given the demographics in this country. And if he was Muslim more Muslims would love him, but he's Chinese so lots of Asians love him . None of that is really surprising, is it?

I bet in some some instances, him being Christian allows him to be more "acceptable" to some folks who would see his race as a problem. It works in various ways.

As long as Lin doesn't make a big deal about his Christianity and doesn't act like an asshole about it (like David Tyree opposing gay marriage in NY), it makes no difference to me.

Come on, he's on a hot streak, but to say he's amazing?

Im' sure 10 yrs from now he'll be paid $25,000 a pop to give speeches at places like those about "leadership" and "perseverance."

I thought NBA-GAF was all about giving people shit? Or is that only if your avatar is the head of an NBA player and you're in their little club

You made a personal attack against not only Lin, but anyone that practices religion. I'd hardly call it giving a player shit, especially when it has nothing to do with the game.

should have stayed in the NBA thread then

why would you care, or how would it even affect you, if he does make a big deal about his Christianity?
