Second line demonstrates exactly why the first line is wrong. Of course some people will focus on him being Asian, but saying "he gets all that attention because he's Asian" insultingly implies that he didn't earn his success.
Last time I checked, he still has lots of fans on here and all throughout the U.S. And I doubt the thread about those comments went much longer than this one, if it even made it to this many pages. Fact is, he got away with it and only made a half ass apology, that really wasn't even an apology.

Only if you take what that part and ignore the rest. He is saying that he is a good player but others have produced similar numbers and not received such hype.
He is implying that race is the reason he is blowing up so much. It is not to diminish his accomplishments but more of commentary on the behavior of the media.
Now, is he wrong? Probably. From what I hear, Lin has done something only a few have done so far. But as someone who doesn't follow sports, my perspective is that I was hit with his race, the fact that he is from harvard and the fact that he played basketball. I needed to research to find out which team he played for and the stats.
Floyd has said some dumb, racist shit, no doubt, but he sort of stopped short of condemning an entire race to genocide and referring to them collectively as sub-human apes. Floyd was maliciously playing on stereotypes, which is obviously wrong, but Jenny Hyun was outright advocating genocide and bringing up extremely racist and damaging historical imagery and actions, i.e. slavery, low intelligence, "ape", etc. They're not quite equivalent.
But the media fervor is because of his race. Lets not get it twisted. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that at all.
Dude deserves it and he is a great player. What makes it even more amazing is he is beating the odds. Thats why the media has grabbed onto him. People break records all the time but thats not really why hes been dominating the headlines.

Yeah but the problem is that it's not something you can ever actually prove. Like, you could do a media study and ask sporting journalists whether they care about his race -- and I can tell you right now that every single white sporting journalist would quickly say "no of course not" then chuckle nervously -- but beyond that all it does is call the rest of his achievements into question.
Keep in mind that I'm not denying that the media can fixate on public figures for the wrong reasons at times, and race is definitely one of those reasons which happens more often than others, but I just think that making broad generalisations about it lacks class.
