Got my Y-Wing and Jedi Starfighter done. The Starfighter was a bit complicated but only took me about 2 hours. It's slightly bigger than the X-Wing and Y-Wing.

Finally decided to build my Tie Fighter this afternoon:

It was as boring as I was expecting based on everyone's feedback. It is very repetitive though. The wings are identical (bags 2 and 3). I decided to build them both at the same time. It looks awesome when it's done though.

All I currently have left to build is The Black Pearl. Debating about doing it later tonight. I will be going to South Coast later so I might have to stop by the LEGO store for something small to build. Hmmm.....

Edit: I miss the lighting from my desk at work. The lighting in my house definitely is much worse. Maybe I should bust out the SLR and see what I can do.

Finished the Imperial Shuttle tonight. So I'm going to do a mini-review.

Pros:
The set is just huge, really can't appreciate it until you see it with the wings outs. It's also very nicely detailed. The main body is a lot of fun to put together. The way they go the gearing for the wings is quite impressive.

Cons:
People have mentioned annoyance in double building on things like the X-Wing and Tie Fighter, well, it's multiplied on this. The two wings are long, complicated builds due to all the connector pieces, and the top fin is the same type of build, so it almost feels like you're building it three times.

I thankfully had extra pieces at the end, and I was able to correct two design flaws. 1. On the wings, there are several 3x1 rounded technic pieces. There's one on each wing that only has one connector, and as such can be moved. I had some extra connector pieces at the end and added one to stop it (note the piece was not loose, but it was something that annoyed me). The second was the cockpit. There's the main piece that flips open, and a smaller top piece. When closed, it sits on the head of the back passengers. Added some extra 4x1 flat pieces to the top part to extend it a bit, so it stops when it hits the front cockpit part.

Despite those cons, I would still recommend the set. It's a Star Wars UCS, so it's beautiful. The build flaws are easily fixed since the pieces are very common. Also the gear detail in the main body, and just the build of the main body in general far outweigh the repetitiveness of the wings and fin. And the sets supposedly being discontinued this year, so buy buy buy.

If it werent for this thread I dont know if I would have never bought such a big Lego set, let alone it being my first ever. It took me over a day to complete it. I had such a fun and amazing time. Up next is the Fire Brigade!

The ultimate double build - tower bridge, haha. Imperial shuttle is a cool model though. Really like all the white pieces, if nothing else!

Here's something funny. I just finished Luke's Landspeeder and went to google image search to look up a reference photo from the movie to see how it compares. When you google "Luke's Landspeeder" the majority of the images that come up are of the lego set . I really wasn't expecting that!

Co-signed. It is a magnificent display piece. I still need to do a photoshoot with the shuttle, but my Lego career began and ended with the shuttle. Everything else Lego makes looks too much like kids' toys to fit my decor, so I feel it's a waste to get any more Lego and clutter up my place.

I'm not building them to decorate the house with (even if my wife let me), I just enjoy building them. Figure I'll put them in my office or basement area someday. Or future kids rooms!

Built the Tantive IV tonight and my wife built the X-Wing, both were super awesome, especially the Tantive IV holy shit. Might take pics in the morning.

I kinda doubt it, but I'm half hoping Amazon matches it. I'd only really use this to take advantage of getting a couple of the bigger sets as gifts for the wife (modular buildings, maybe the Tower Bridge, etc) but they're out of most of the ones I was looking for on their website, and I could check again but I don't think our local TRU had any of them at least as of earlier this week.

TRU has this sale all the time and Amazon never matches it.

Shoot! Went to order some modulars and pet shop is sold out and I already have fr Brigade :/.

Went to do, get grand emporium and tower bridge, or wait and hope to get pet shop and emporium.

Was waiting on tax return and double vip points, but getting $75 off is amazing

Just a heads-up: TRU can be real dicks in regards to these kinds of sales. You can place an order, with both products appearing "in stock" even after your order, and TRU will still send you an email later, stating "Oops, it appears that one of your items is not in stock, but that's okay we have already sent you the one remaining item at its usual full price - LOL"

I'm waiting for the LEGO store double points.

EDIT: That said, with the amount of discount that may be involved it may be worth going for it anyway. This could be a cheap way to get those LEGO Creator houses at a cheap price (and since those are less likely the target of hoarders)

Heads up, things are going out of stock on tru.com quick.

edit:

whelp that made my decision easy. Got to the end of checkout and by the time i submitted it tower bridge had sold out.

Perfect for a child into Lego. I can enjoy building half without distraction or 'can I build a bit?' and then he can do the same. Win-win :)

all this shuttle love has me wanting to break mine out. Does it look like it stresses the pieces when the wings are down? I guess they're pretty heavy

Heads up, TRU has B1G1@50% for Legos; excludes Star Wars though.

AHHHHH Are you KIDDING ME!?! I literally just bought the Diagon Alley set from Amazon! D:

Oh well, at least I had a gift card for it. I guess now I HAVE to pick out 2 more LEGO sets to buy, oh darn. :P

edit: wait, I still have time to cancel from amazon. If there's another $150 set I want I will totally do that!
edit#2: Oh, Diagon Alley isn't available for shipping OR store pickup. CRISIS AVERTED.

Built the Imperial Flagship last night together with my girlfriend.

I wasn't expecting her to be interested in helping me, but when I told her that I've got this at home in a box she told me "What are you waiting for, go get it and let's build it together".

When I told her that the modular buildings had even more pieces she got excited.

Building the Flagship was so much fun. Great set, so many awesome details. And it's huge!

Potc ships are great, but they need more cannons. Expensive sets so a bit cheap of Lego to scrimp on these

Might buy some more from bricklink

Does anyone have pictures showing the relative size of the flagship, queen annes revenge and the black pearl?

And now I'm tempted to go to Toys R Us when they open this morning. I've not bought LEGO in years (older Star Wars sets, the first X-Wing). But where on earth would I start?

Someone posted this picture earlier in the thread:

I'll try to take some comparison pictures once I built the QAR (haven't bought the BP yet).

Just finished the last little touches on the Apple Tree house - is it normal for there to be some extra bricks? I've checked the brick index on the box and I seem to have some spare bricks/duplicates.

Yes, the round 1x1 plates, suqare 1x1 tiles and 1x1 wedges always has one spare of each color.

Creator sets always leave you with some extra pieces, some of them aren't used in every model.

Bought two more small sets this morning. The Creator Rescue Robot and found the Deep sea raider atlantis set on clearance for 20$ so I think I'm done buying for a few weeks until I've got some extra cash to get Queen Anns Revenge and the Black Pearl together.
Damn you Gaf for bringing me hard back into this hobby! :P And by damn you I mean thankyou! :D

I knew it was a long shot, but I called my local TRU to check for some of the modulars, and the only store that claimed to have any was one in Miami (about 250 miles away) and they just had the Fire Brigade. :(

Quick question about the Bricklink website.

It seems to be like an ebay for Lego, where both new and used bricks can be bought from hundreds of suppliers. But how do we know the sellers can be trusted? I mean it seems like it would be easy for some random seller to collect fees and never ship anything, who is stopping that from happening?

I guess, in short, anyone buy stuff from Bricklink? Good or bad experience? Any problems?
