nope, the designers are retarded. the person who judges through youtube knows more about the game. in fact, the players can design a much better game than those assholes. they just don't want to because, they like don't wanna do that because.. like they need to do other stuff that day.
Really lowbrow and not what these threads are about. I'm done discussing the game with you based on this.
Barely anyone is an understatement...1 person has from all that I've seen.
I saw the video... It really only looked feasible because it was low-level 1v1 setups. Very action game like. With the instanced PvE I saw, it was way to chaotic to really pull off such maneuvers. Teams were tanking because they were worried they couldn't DPS the enemy before wiping. IDK, I'd have to see the action game style applied to the tough dungeons.

The Yogcast videos were the best thing to watch today. There were only one and a half instances of annoying high pitched screaming, and towards the end he started cutting out the boring travel parts.

Only other thing I found of interest was a Warrior PvP gameplay video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8XqWEaiAcI

But honestly, it's more of a Thief and Mesmer video. You'll see what I mean.

In the 3rd Charr video when they were down in the crypt, I was yelling 'REVIVE HIM YOU IDIOTS!" Instead they just all continued shooting mobs...ugh. I think he went down about 4-5 times in there, at one point 3 times within 10-15 sec.

Hmmm... watching that Warrior video again with the sound at a decent volume, I am definitely going to have to roll a Norn female if the Human ones make that high pitched squeaking 'yip' all the damn time.

Really lowbrow and not what these threads are about. I'm done discussing the game with you based on this.

It's exactly what these threads are about as YOU specifically have been sprawling these types of comments for what seems like forever in every GW2 thread. I get it. I got it 6 months ago, that GW2 is not shaping the way you want it to.

However, that does not change reality, or that some people are contributing absolutely nothing constructive to a beta press thread, about how the designers put a BS spin on something and indicating than they know more about the game than the people who made it.
That is simply haters gonna hate.

I'm guessing you didn't play PvP. If you didn't constantly keep your head on a swivel, you were dead.
Yeah I was mainly a PVE person. But I was talking more about how you couldn't dodge in GW1, and most (if not all) skills required your character to be stationary while casting them.

Hopefully it's a Release date (or at the very least, a schedule for all upcoming Beta events to see how far off they're thinking) or details on a Collector's Edition. I don't see much else they can say at this point that qualifies as "Big news"

I don't insult people who don't agree with me.

Yea, PvE had a lot of standing around. GvG especially had constant movement. GW2 though still has those pause moments especially with finishers.

HYPE! I can't wait. So excited. Tried so many other MMOs since I played Guild Wars. Nothing has satisfied me. I'm ready, GIVE ME BETA! I'll do anything to get in.

Have they specified how the upcoming beta weekends are going to work? Are they actually open betas or is there a set amount of keys that are given out on a first-come first-served basis?

I'm looking forward to the more mobile combat in this game. Using skills while moving should be great.

It's not open open as in you can just sign up and get in. We know that at the very least. If they do the Beta Weekends like GW1, you can probably preorder to get a key. Though that remains to be seen and hopefully is laid out tomorrow.

I'm expecting them to announce the first public beta date and how to get in. Anything more will be a surprise.

There will almost certainly be early access for preorders, closed beta is much larger than what they have been doing but not everyone will get in. That's all we know.

Maybe all of it rolled in to one?

Announcement of open beta access guaranteed if you preorder...what can you preorder? Well look at this Collector's Edition! Well, if I am going to preorder, I'll want to know when I will recieve it...so release date!

Well, I can dream.

Yeah, we can dream lol.

I know they talked about this somewhere, and maybe they are right about people being dumb. Looking at all the press videos barely anyone used combat to its fullest.

I wouldn't say the game is being dumbed down, rather that it's changing the onus of skill requirement. It's not so much of knowing what to do, when, but adapting to the flow of combat and pushing the initiative you create by your spacing, positioning, and damage output.

Furthermore, it's far too easy for things to appear to be dumbed down when you compare a cherished game with a six year old meta to a game that's not even out yet.

Although, I agree the Mesmer has lost some of its charm. Energy denial > godbeams.

I dunno if I'd want Beta access at this point. I feel like I'd get to try it, spend an entire weekend playing and then the next few months twitching like a drug addict. I might try to fill the void with crack sandwiches or something.

Honestly all of the closed and open beta I played of GW1 helped to lessen the pure awesomeness of the release for me.
god I wish the skill gem system made it in
I'll hold off.

With miracle whip.

I've spent like the entire day reading info about the game and its really impressing me. Its so unique and different from the other MMOs. There is like no concept in this game that is just rehashed. Its looking completely incredible. I really hope its getting attention.

Thank you guys for answering my questions.

Even though I originally wrote it off after getting to play some hours of PvE at gamescom 2010 and 2011, I just pre-ordered the game. I am still worried about the combat mechanics and the whole "no dedicated healer" mantra, but the DAoC nostalgia I get from the WvWvW footage is just to good to ignore.

Looking forward to those beta weekends to see if I was really completely off the mark with my first impressions.

And thank you, Jira, for peaking my interest with the huge WvWvW map in the OP. I might have left the thread without even watching any footage after my first experiences with the game.

Just a reminder to everyone here: You don't have your 30/50 HoM from GW1 yet.

You should get on that.

I don't know what you just said.

30 minutes of Human Ranger just starting out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yGzkmIuTh8

The video features the first three parts of his personal quest. It's funny, I actually started caring about the characters towards the end. The hype must be getting to me.

Sounds to me like the hype is getting to everyone, and that's probably a bad thing. I don't think GW2 is going to be a bad game at all, but I have a feeling that people are going to be disappointed due to crazy expectations.

It doesn't take long but be aware that the prices of minipets, weapons and armor needed for said points are going to be expensive since people know you need them for points.

aww, already missing out on fluff :( does anyone still play GW1 consistently?

I wouldn't worry about it, just something to shoot for if you have Guild Wars + the expansions. All cosmetic. I'm not aware of anyone on GAF aside from myself who plays semi-consistently, but there are still plenty of people playing GW online. I just joined a guild the other day that seems pretty active.

I CAN'T DECIDE WHAT CLASS I WANT TO PLAY

I haven't had this much trouble deciding on a first main class with an MMO ever. Usually just pick a ranged utility class, but Mesmer, Necro, and Engineer all look fun.

I'm loving the emphasis on movement, active dodging, and actual targeting/aiming of skills. It's actually already been done before in the MMO genre, if you've played Dragon Nest. But that game, while fun, is such a money-sink by an unscrupulous company that had barebones PvE or PvP content. In WoW or its clones, "skill" really only amounted to "knowledge" of what your optimal DPS/threat rotations were.

I do share the same complaint about the lack of choice in creating "builds." I understand that weapon swapping will change the first five attack skills for your class, but I still would've preferred if each weapon had a larger list of skills from which to choose from. Otherwise, you lose that individuality of each character or the fun in experimenting with wonky builds.

As far as I understand, a greatsword Warrior will play the same way as every other greatsword Warrior, with the exception of the utility/heal skills. But I get the feeling future expansions or even patches in this game will expand the # of attack skills anyway.

There are also Traits, weapon bonuses and possibly other elements that we just haven't seen that will differentiate one character from another when it comes to weapon choices. We don't have much data on the new trait system, unfortunately.

That said, you can stand out from every other Warrior, regardless of what you're wielding, by just being a better player at the game. Being able to evade, build combos with other players, support your allies and control the enemy; if you're a badass with the Greatsword, then you won't play the same way as every other Greatsword Warrior; you'll play like you. It may not make you stand out in a crowd, but if you're having fun and getting the job done, that should be enough.

They expect you to make use of more than one weapon type at a time. That is why you can change weapons during combat.

So its not about just being a specialist with a greatsword.

you can mix it with staff, 1h + off hand (tons of choice there) and all those will give you many different skills.

Ohhhhh, beta perhaps?

I would expect they used the feedback from the press beta to map out how much they'd need to change to do a mass scale beta.

Beta details would certainly be nice, and equally a surprise and not a surprise. Wonder if us cool GW1 bros get some extra chance.

Hype is getting me bad... this is pretty much a late 2012 release huh?

I just want one good MMO to play. Something that will just let me go do shit on my own without the game telling me to go back to the "main" quest every 5 minutes.
