Guild Wars 2 Press Beta [Prepurchase Is Live]

Filled everything out but the guild info as I don't have a GW2 guild (will join the GAF guild as usual). Is that something they look for? People in guilds, more than people not in a guild? I've always wondered that when applying for MMO betas.

I think they are more looking for a wide range of hardware specs than people who claim to be in a not-yet existing guild.

So, what's everyones plans if they are granted access?

I will be trying out the classes i am interested in, i'm pretty certain ele will be my main but undecided on my first alt. I'm only gonna level each to 10 though as i really don't want to play too much PvE as i'd like to go in as fresh as possible on release.

The majority of my time i'd spend in structured PvP and WvW getting to grips with everything and getting used to my ele.

As much as I want to play every character and try out every class to just have fun, if I were to be chosen i'd only look for bugs and problems with the game.

Man just saw the guild features video and im in love. The fact that this game is making so many advances in the genre is amazing.

From the Sign Up thread, but it needs to be shared here too;

Finally. As someone who tried to crawl up every little valley, check every little path and end up finding nothing in the entire World of Warcraft, the idea of stepping into an MMO where there are little surprises around every corner is just... damn it, guys... finally. An MMO that looks to deliver on the promise of an actual game world worth exploring.

Nah they took it off. Just try registering again and it should tell you that the email address is already in the signup. I haven't gotten my email but it did say I was good to go.

"Your email was already used to register a Guild Wars 2 beta account." is what it says after I tried to register with the same information.

This that what you got too?

a single environment artist created all these exploration caves with rewards at the end? meta events?

I don't often do this...but I so called that trebuchet meta. ;)

Anybody who is still thinking PvP > WvW is crazy. I imagine WvW will trickle down and not the reverse. Like in GW1 RA, HA, etc... could build relationships towards GvG. I don't see this happening at all. High level player relationships will likely build with WvW teams with battles of attrition. 12 hours holding shit down and finding people who are quality. And it is likely that many transitions to WvW will be from PvE teams as they are related with the unlocks (PvP being 100% scaled of course). So it is sort of like PvE -> WvW -> PvP, which is not how GW1 went down. PvP would be maybe something WvW top tiers do to mash up the game a bit for fun. But very unlikely it will be primary. And I'm of course fine with that due to the cap points...single map...OK, I'm going to resist my PvP rant again. Cause I'm a hater or whatever. ;)

Cap maps may be an outsider for awhile. I mean that they may get less activity than the other two for some time. I think they'll have to add another PVP mode if they want to be an e-sport.

Just take a small portion of a WvW map with some mod, two keeps, 12v12. It's so mind-numbingly simple it hurts my head. Break through the keep, wipe the team, claim an alter (lengthy), gg new awesome mode. You have to hold both keeps and it is possible to switch. Moving as a team of 12 will just get your ass kicked by stationary weapons. So no waving and it will encourage splits. Sub-teams coordinate and the entire match is mind games/execution. Infiltration should be possible and planted weapons replace NPC requirements. 12v12 for a small keep is enough for teams to be the whole army. Armor cracks replace death penalty and cause teams to be unable to hold their stuff if they are reckless. Change up game modes where one player is the "guild lord". Maybe CTF? Bring in dragons. Entire game is all about player skill and team coordination. I could go on for days.

So with all that potential...we get a single boring cap map. I can only think that they don't want the modes to bleed too much with the focus being on WvW. But shit man.

EDIT:
Guess I couldn't resist the PvP rant. So warranted IMO though.

For people who use gmail

For some reason emails from NCSoft have trouble with gmail addresses.

When you sign up, put yourname@googlemail.com and you'll receive the confirmation immediately.
Use the same address you use for gmail, just type out the word "google" and it'll work.

Thanks to the bros in the GW2 General on /vg/ for figuring it out.

Did you sign up really quickly after it went up? It seems like it only started happening after the site became temporarily unavailable.

I encountered the issues I described myself, so it at least helped me out. I felt it was important to point out because if gmail users aren't getting confirmations or newsletters, they might not get invites either when the time comes.

I'll have to dig around for the article, but I seem to recall reading that the world designers are basically at a point where there's just lots of tweaks. To fill the time, they've gone back and added lots of little caves and such with some loot at the end.

I'll try to find the specific article. But no, it's not a single person and I don't even think it's an event; it's just a cave somebody put in for the sake of having a cave there that's cool.

well the site went up, and then it went down, and then got back to normal. I got my confirmation email at 1:30pm.

But yeah, if it works for other works, by all means, share!

Thank you based god!

Worked automatically. I had initially signed up at 2pm and hadn't gotten any word by 7:30pm

Did ArenaNet ever tell us why the Asura wasn't included in the closed beta?

Not that we know of, if I had to guess given the amount of people in beta they probably wanted to keep them focused in only a few areas rather than 5-10 zones (1-10/10-20). Either that or they wanted to do focus testing of these 3 races or Asura/Sylvari starting zones simply aren't ready or it's all three.

Makes sense to me. Almost every single article I've read says something along the lines of "I was joined by ArenaNet Dev So-and-So", so it sounds like they had their entire staff out there playing along with the journalists to answer questions and provide direction. If they'd had 5 races available instead of 3, they'd probably be spread too thin and wouldn't be able to act as ambassadors to the press.

I signed up with gmail already, should I do it again like this?

Thanks a lot for this. I got the notification immediately after signing up with this method. So I guess people who write gmail instead of googlemail won't receive anything even if they are accepted.

Try every class for around 20 mins each minimum, try out the available races as well. Then decide which one I'll play when the game launches.

I'm only interested in Humans. Norns maybe.

So I'm gonna try, in order:

Human Guardian
Human Mesmer
Human Thief
Human Elementalist
Human Engineer
Human Ranger
Human Warrior

then Norn of the same.

I rather like the Humans because they are the underdog race.

Come on, ArenaNet is so fucking awesome. The usual most populous race, the fucking UNDERDOGS? YESSSS.

So, what's everyones plans if they are granted access?

Try all the classes, but avoid as many races as possible so I don't spoil their personal story or zones (I want to come into them fresh). I'm leaning towards either Warrior or Guardian for my main, but every class has something about them that I like so I'm gonna have to try 'em all. I may fall in love with something.

The wife signed up too, if she gets in we'll probably end up doing PVE during the day (she doesn't like PVP) and I'll do WvW at night.

I'll sleep when I'm dead.

I love you.

One thing that i'm curious, if you need to sign a NDA... what will happen with people that isn't from USA,Canada and Europe :(? I hope we can join the beta testing.

"Our datacenters are located in North America and Europe, and we expect that is where most of our beta participants will be located, but we do not explicitly bar any regions from participating in our Beta Events."

Hopefully this helps out. :)

Unless you care about titles, it's not really. Chances are the game will be out before you can make it there anyway. That's not to say you can't continue post-release.

I understand which is a really nice gesture on Anet's part for letting those who want the titles to continue even after the game has been released. I'll end up doing it down the line
