Sir Alex said Cleverley was shit? Must have missed that. Cleverley played some great passes, very rarely gave the ball away and had a shot well saved.

Fair enough the lad isn't fully fit but he was brought off because he couldn't get near the Ajax attacking midfielders and failed to offer any protection to the back four. No use making tidy passes and well saved shots if you aren't doing at the other end when yuor team is under attack.

Obviously Ferguson identified that and brought on Scholes to
foul people
calm the game down.

Better attack and better defence.

That midfield was so goddamn wonderful though. So amazing. A mix of the two in defence, old attack and new defence would be the best.

Neville - Stam - Vidic - Evra

Giggs - Keane - Scholes - Beckham

Rooney - Ronaldo

League appearances for MUFC.

Fair enough. Maybe it's because of how much Man Utd miss him presence that he seems injured more often that those stats say.

Jaap Stam was a scary dude. Remember being relieved when he was sold after some kind of fallout.

Good win tonight. We did exactly what we wanted to; score early and contain. Well done to the boys and especially Roy Carroll who made 3 fantastic saves and played with a hamstring injury from 65 and on.

Bring on Metalist.
Oh hey, nice to hear from you Malakas being successful :D
Congrats.

Man, so much negativity here, hope you're all ready for us to style on Bayern this weekend. Hopefully Marica will go into troll mode and score a hat-trick, annoying everyone including most Schalke fans.

If you loft a ball at our defence, he's going to be coming for it at a million miles an hour over the top of your striker.

We miss that.

Gave me a laugh that. He does seem rash at times.

You think Smalling and Jones will be good enough to lead Man Utd to future glory? Or would you prefer an more experienced defender being brought in?

Now how the fuck does one become a S.. fan in "Kópavogur, Iceland"?? What went wrong in your life? ;(

Smalling definitely, but I don't understand everyone saying Jones will obviously end up being a centre back. I think full back would be better for him.

EDIT: Jones

Sure he's an attacking midfielder not a defensive midfielder, it's just not his fault that most of the team around him weren't doing their job properly and in the end he got the short straw and was brought off in an effort to sure up the midfield, that's all.

Glad I missed this United game it seems.... At this point I'm nervous for PL play to start back up. United hit a good stretch of form recently, then all of a sudden it seems like its been zapped from them....

I thought Park was very poor this evening.

He doesn't have the technical ability to play in the centre of midfield. He's a good wide midfielder and I'd prefer it if he played there.

I predict 3-3 with 3 blunders from Neuer.
Hey, that'd be pretty cool for us :)

There's plenty of fun. We were complete shit in the league last year, yet we still hot into the semi-finals of the CL and won the DFB Pokal, and we also won the Supercup against some dudes last year, if recall.

That all sounds pretty fun to me.

When was the last time you won the league? Oh wait.. :>
Also if I were an Icelander I'd probably support a Danish or some other Nordic team or if I were into the Bundesliga (thumbs up for that btw.) I'd support a non-shitty and more sympathetic team than effing Schlacke. I know some Danes who are into Northern German teams like Bremen, Hanover or Hamburg.
Btw. you should visit piece-of-shit, middle-of-nowhere Gelsenkrichen and you'll probably reconsider, lol

But I'll leave you alone now. Welcome to the Bundesliga-GAF.

I don't understand this mentality. how is supporting dortmund or anyother team better than supporting schalke. they're play some good football and are not more or less sympathetic than dortmund.

Easy to explain. Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd are all in somewhat of a transitional period. I know people might not view Man Utd in this way but you only have to look at the back five to see this. Evra has turned to shit, VDS retired and Ferdinand and Vidic cant stay fit.

Well thats true, but I am not sure what they are transitioning to. As we at Aston Villa have learnt and you lot already know, "transition" can be code word for "decline." For me only City & Spurs look to be transitioning to something better this season.

Nothing in Nordrhein-Westfalen seems pretty... lost. From Koblenz to Paderborn, everything you see is an endless sea of junctions, buildings, crossroads, airports, warehouses on the side of road and traffic jam everywhere, every two meters.

Calling Gelsenkirchen "lost" is like saying that New York is the 101st city of the US.

Thanks, but I'm fine with myy choice. I also support my local team Breiðablik and Juve in Serie A so I have all the teams I need.

I really didn't expect you guys to be so buttmad about my choice (which I made ages ago when Ebbe Sand was kicking it there) but I'll survive. It's certainly more interresting then the same old bullcrap that PL-gaf harps on 98% of the time in these threads.

Well City, bless their cotton socks, had a team helicoptered in. It's not so much a transition.

Why is it more interesting? As opposed to just as interesting? What makes the PL boring as opposed to Serie A or Bundesliga?

Fuck me City are the only English side that look anything like a proper team at the moment.

Didn't see the game but by all accounts sounds like we were rubbish and are lucky to still be in the competition! Oh dear, heard De Gea made some good saves though, that's nice.

We've only beaten Otellul Galati at home in the CL this season. How poor. To do well in Europe you need great home form, it's what underpinned our recent successes on the European stage. I can't actually remember the last time we lost a match at home in Europe before tonight, very disappointing.

Well , it is really innit? The question Man U fans should be asking themselves is why SAF has chosen to be, or compelled to be so inactive in the transfer market? The man is a miracle worker (being number 2 with this squad is truly amazing) but there are limits even for him.

I'm sorry, that was poorly worded on my part. I wasn't saying PL was boring, but most of the discussion here is about the league and rarely about anything else.

I still watch it regularly, but I don't have the same ammount of interrest over it as I do of other leagues. That's not me saying it's garbage, just that I find the discussion here rarely goes beyond the PL. That's just my personal taste, I don't really see what's wrong with that.

Didn't see the game as I said but before the Basel/Bayern game Xherdan Shaqiri came out and said that when United played Basel he could sense we underestimated them. That kind of complacency has been apparent in every single one of our European games that I've watched this season. It's worrying and it's strange when you consider Ferguson is the manager.

Whether it is indeed complacency or not, whatever it is that's making our performances in Europe so languid needs to be eradicated. You cannot play in Europe like that and also it is just damn right disrespectful to the opponent and to the fans.

Money is an obvious problem for us at the moment but Ferguson made a big mistake this season in splurging close to £35m on Jones and Young. I know why he signed those players but the priority should have been CM and he hasn't tackled that problem.

I don't think this United team/squad is as bad as many people think it is. I genuinely think it's a couple of players away from being a very very good side. The problem is that the positions we are lacking in are key positions. Centre half and CM. Vidic makes an immense difference to the side because he relieves so much pressure. VDS behind him added to that. This season we have basically played with a toothless CM, CB's who can be got at and a GK who looks prone. The rest of the side IMO is actually fine and I wouldn't really change anything...but that spine is very weak and frail. Even when we play well, teams can get back into the game because we cannot control a game fully.

I was genuinely just wondering, not annoyed or angry or whatever :)

I'm more interested in the Premier League obviously and the discussion I suppose is because its an English language forum. But I love when people talk about other leagues, I learn some more about it all.

Strongly agree with this. I have been working up the effort to start following a totally new league to me and learning all about it. Something like Poland or the Indonesian premier League. The problem is finding a league that has a lot of televised of recorded games.
