So how is the HTC Rader 4g as a phone? I've been keeping an eye on WP7 phones in Canada for a little while now and this one just popped up on Wind Mobile. Is it Dated? Should I wait a little while for newer phones? What's the word?

It's a solid second gen phone and looks better in person than it does on pictures. If you can live with 8 GB of storage, go an check it out in person.

Seems like my data isn't working right on my Titan. More and more frequently it seems like it's just not connecting right. Web pages won't load, either it turns up a "This page cannot be displayed" error or I just get a big white screen I can scroll around on but not see anything. Nothing else data related seems to work either.

A couple weeks ago it started happening sporadically, but now it's pretty regular. Sometimes I can reset the phone and it starts working, but since it doesn't work every time I wonder if that's just coincidence. Turning data off and back on doesn't do anything to solve the problem.

So yeah, anybody know what's up with that? Is my phone about to need replaced?

Edit: Looks like it might be the sim card? That would be better than replacing the phone.

Holy crap, this is the exact same thing happening to my co-workers titan.

He says it started recently. this can't be a coincidence. He called at&t and they weren't helpful, they told him to call HTC.

My titan was doing the exact same thing. Thought it was due to me dropping it off a ski lift a couple days ago. But I guess not. What part of the country are you guys in? Im in the Atlanta area.

The Lumia 800 will be available at Telus on March 2nd. No price yet. Hopefully the price is as competitive as the Lumia 710 on Rogers.

after using Windows Phone 7 (HTC Radar) for approx 1 month. 2 issues i want them addressed by MS ASAP :/

1- WiFi drop when you lock the screen (unless it's charging)
This issue is annoying especially if you're using apps that runs in the background such as WhatsApp or eBay.

2- slower apps start-up.
Unlike my Android, an App like imdb takes time to startup on WP7 for some reason. once you click on the icon, you'll see the logo of the app then "loading..." message.

here is a demo
IMDb Android:

HTC phones have a bug for WiFi where it doesn't reconnect. My Radar does the same damn thing. So annoying. We discussed this a few pages back.

Turning off wifi while the screen is off is by design and is done in order to save battery. I do wish it was an option though.

When you unlock your screen you'll see the wifi icon blinking, indicating it is reconnecting.

US Virgin Islands. I'm racking my brain trying to figure what could be going on with these HTC Titans. My co-worker thought it was because he had dropped it too. This is really weird, a reset sometimes fixes it, sometimes not. Sometimes the data works fine, sometimes it doesn't. I'll load up the same site on the same cell network with my phone, no problem. Meanwhile, his phone doesn't load the page. It starts to load, but never finishes.

One of us should probably send a tip to one of the WP7 fan sites, it may be something where everyone thinks its just their phone acting up, but something's definitely up with these Titans on AT&T.

The initial load takes a bit to load up the stuff from the internet, but its a mango-enabled app, so once its loaded: Navigate to any part of the IMDb app, hit the start button. Now press and hold the back button, select the IMDb app, and....voila. No lenghty loading.

this is not even a temporary workaround since the multi tasking doesn't keep more than 4 or 5 apps working in the back. just think about it.

I'd love the wp7 to have better and faster apps start-ups.

Hi this might be stupid. But how do i sync apps from zune on my computer to my phone?
I Tried connecting but i cannot sync the games and apps. Even tried going back to the market place , but it only show purchased. Thanks!

oh, i purchased the free apps before i connect my phone if its help.

So my preferred way of saving battery life has always been to turn off 3G and stick to Edge as it gets low. Any way to do that on the Focus?

PS: Rogers Focus > AT&T Focus. The carrier logo pushing the Samsung logo to where it is in the AT&T pic really messes with the design.

You can't ATM, small oversight on Microsofts part

I do wish the multitasker held more apps in memory, but how is that "not even a temporary workaround"? I dont understand what you're saying here. If you used it recently, its there.

Android preserves more apps in memory and preserves the last open states for most apps. That's a difference in OS, hardware, and design. There are tradeoffs for that, but an app opening more quickly on Android from a cold start has more to do with how the devs code it, the network (since most apps get their content from the web), and the phone hardware. Also, the same app is often coded by different teams on different platforms. Team size is also a factor, with the ios team usually the biggest, followed by the android app team, which may be different or smaller. If we are lucky, they'll assign a few devs to work on a wp7 app.

Its the price you pay for being the last kid at the dance, most of the girls are taken. Two things can and probably will help: better hardware in Apollo will allow for more multitasking options and a likely increase in market share this year would lead to bigger, better dev teams assigned to the wp7 version of apps.

On Monday, February 27, the first day of Mobile World Congress, Nokia will host a press conference, where it will announce significant industry news. The press conference will be hosted by Stephen Elop, Nokia's president and CEO. Due to the pending public transportation disruption, doors will be opened, and accredited media admitted starting at 08:00 a.m. CET.
significant industry news

Microsoft buys Nokia?
First Nokia Android phone?
Nokia going back to Meego?
Nokia's first tablet running Symbian?

Supposedly, the Nokia 610, even cheaper than the 710T

that's not "significant industry news", unless they ship it to 100 markets simultaneously.

When someone like Nokia says "significant industry news", Apple, Google and Samsung need to shit their pants. A feature phone won't make them do that.

In other news: Samsung's spending Microsoft's marketing money wisely, they just uploaded their own "Smoked by Windows Phone" ad on YouTube.

Except it's called "Samsung Street Challenge" and they're using a Galaxy Note and not a Focus S.

Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2gjn12QS9I

I'm in south central Pennsylvania and my Titan recently started doing the same thing. I have times at work where it won't load anything at all and then five minutes later it will load it regularly. It's been extremely irritating.

Maybe they got some big exclusive contract in counties like India, China, or Brazil? Get your ass some kind of deal in India or China which both have over 1 Billion people respectively and there is a metric fuck ton of market movement you could make.

It was strange for me as well. Web pages wouldn't load, but I could go to marketplace and apps would load with their screenshots, but when I hit install, it would say something along the lines of the Windows Live service was unavailable. So obviously I was getting data over the air cause I was loading data for apps I had never looked at before, so caching wasnt happening, so only certain data was coming over the air.

And Nokia is buying T-Mobile.

Yup, same exact experience. There has to be something going on with either the phone or the network.

Hmm...I haven't have any problem but I didn't use the phone that much on Thursday. I do notice though that the Titan take longer to reconnect than my old Focus.

In the back of my mind I should have gone with Samsung Focus S. I wonder if HTC will ever roll out firmware update to fix some of the issue with the Titan (blu-tooth still occasionally get disconnect from my car and won't reconnect).

"We've plugged the the hole that was sinking our ship!"

"It was easier to do once the boat was sitting entirely underwater."

North Alabama. Doesn't seem like a regional problem, but who knows.

This might explain my data usage then. Upped my plan to 2GB before they started the bigger but more expensive ones. Ridiculous as it is that I had to resort to that, I wasn't going to pay $30 a month for 400MB.

I told you!!! Lol.

I like my Focus S. Better screen and good, solid connectivity. It consistently beats my co-worker's Titan in non scientific speed tests. We'll see which one proves to be more durable, but if my next phone isn't a Nokia, it'll be a Samsung.
or iPhone
.

They need to figure out some bugs of course, with the main one being keyboard lag with sound on and some camera improvements.

Nokia Windows 8 tablet?

Hope they or Samsung show somthing good. My omnia 7 upgrade is in April but I have seen nothing on any platform compelling enough to upgrade to. Still really like my Omnia.

Welp, MWC is my last showdown with Windows Phone 7. After almost 2 years (Dec 2010) if there isn't anything that makes me look forward to the WP7 ecosystem, ill be hopping train :( I'm on the edge of my seat.

hardware that actually competes on specs will show up at the end of the year, you won't see anything at MWC that will meet your needs if that is what you are looking for.

Exactly the same here. With my dead Omnia 7 and my contract ending in April I'm jumping ship (likely to the galaxy s3).

Why are you doing this to me? I had like 2 hours of sleep after Nokia World before going to school =( Luckily MWC is in Barcelona which is roughly in sync with my local time...

Specs don't matter to me. I've been with the same phone since 2010 because it was the last phone with a decent keyboard and screen size. (Dell Venue Pro). My WP7 has served me well speed and gamewise.

Now I'm in a situation where I need to block certain numbers and put up call policies, due to business, and WP7 does not allow blocking at all. Android, Blackberry, and iPhone do. Symbian does, PalmOS does, and so do many dumbphones especially those by Samsung. For my carrier (T-Mo) I have to switch to a family plan, then pay 4.99/month on top of my new family plan to enable selective call blocking for any phone that doesn't have it baked in. That was the straw that broke the camel's back.

For anyone suggesting I change my number.. that is not an option. And even then T-Mobile charges $30 to do so.

And there's almost no big features that I can look forward to or that could at least be hacked in. I was a HUGE supporter of Windows Mobile, and jumped from Touch Pro 2 to Windows Phone 7 thinking the developer support was there. It's not. Many features I miss from WM6.5 are absolutely absent on WP7. And as time goes on, I don't see MS plugging those gaps quick enough.

I'll see what Tango does, though.

I am just curious those of you with data problem on Titan did you go to AT&T store and activate a new 4g sim card or did you used the one from previous phone?

My Titan has a new 4g sim in it, I did not notice any problem on my phone so far today.

My co-worker used his old sim card. I did tell him to ask at&t for a new one. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I had them give me a "4G" sim card and I haven't had any problems on my Focus S.

And I sympathize with the folks who are jumping ship over niche features. I was on iPhone and Android relatively early in their life and experienced some growing pains on those platforms, but they are really mature now and have filled a lot of the feature gaps. MS really can't rely on one big update a year to fill the feature gaps. They started far behind in the feature set checklist and they need to move much more quickly. Thankfully, pretty much all I use is covered by the OS or 3rd party apps, but it does suck when you're missing a specific feature and there isn't any info on when or IF that feature is being worked on.

Very well stated. I think the platform has promise but even as a gadget whore I have had no interest in revisiting the WP7 world due to lack of features and innovation compared to Android.
