You guys all read terrible manga and should feel bad about yourselves.

Yep everyone is guilty..

Well it takes more than one person to argue :/

Also WTF really? @_@ where were I?

IIRC it was gunbo13 when he compared it to OP (saying it was the same?) and some discussion came from that. Not sure where you were though.

The other times its just some posters talking about what happens during the story.

Cage of Eden 143

Hahaha what the fuck?

I hope it gets past this Yarai vs. Sengoku stuff soon, I would much rather see them come up with a way to face Nishikiori. Also what was the deal with the reveal of Sengoku's mother in his dream?

aah so it didn't happen, anyways fellas since finishing Sanctuary I haven't read a new series any ideas of anything in a similar vein?

^^^Heey I saw that Jedi Mind Trick post!

Why Me Cry Pt. 4: Why A Bleach Fan Likes Bleach

Note that this is simply my thoughts and ideas since people were talking about "how can someone like Bleach". I am not trying to begin a huge argument/debate.

1. Characters

Take this as you will, but the characters in Bleach are not just "cool" like people think that's all they are. There is a large cast of characters, and the way they interact with other characters is not only realistic but something I can appreciate.

First of all, if no one didn't know, I prefer "chill" characters to hyperactive/bouncy/bubbly ones. If I use the big 3 as an example, we know that Ichigo is a relatively relaxed MC. Of course, he jokes around sometimes when the environment calls for it, but as a whole, he is very much loner-like and relaxed. I like that.

This section could be five times longer than this, but I don't care enough to take that much time here or go into all of the characters. Let me just say that it's interactions between people like Byakuya and Kenpachi, Shinji and Aizen, Kisuke and Aizen, Ichigo and All of the captains, that make me like these characters. It's not so hyperbolic whereas these people believe that they can't go on living life without the MC.

Of course, when it comes to this, it's not all gravy. I love the foundation here, but I feel that there are certainly times when Kubo does not 'treat' his characters the best. Of course, his treatment of characters is no where near as bad as Kishimoto's treatment (sorry Naruto fans, but I needed a comparison) of his characters, it's just that there's not as much of it to go around. But then again, this is so that time can be focused on Ichigo.

1a. The Captains as a Group

This is obviously a subset of number one. But I just gotta say that I pretty much like most of the captains. Actually, the only ones I don't like are Yogi Bear because of his insignificance (Aizen trolling to the rescue!) and Hitsugaya because he's kind of annoying. All of the captains are in it just enough to make me like them but not enough so that their characters become stale. Then, because of the number of them, there are still some that we have yet to find out about. Their fights are good, their interactions are good, their development is solid enough, and their interactions with Ichigo, as I said before, is realistic. They acknowledge him, but aren't all on his dick.

2. The Art

I know, I know. Empty panels, and all. I talked about some of that in This post. I've gotta say that the character art in Bleach is just something I'm a very very big fan of. Of course, the environments/backgrounds are very bare, but I've just gotten used to it by now. This also helps during action scenes, where unlike most manga I read, I can tell for the most part what the fuck is going on without having to stare at the panel for five minutes and still be lost. The art for the characters, as I said, is just ballin. Art is subjective, though.

3. A Female Cast I Like

Yoruichi, Inoue, Matsumoto, Unohana, Soifon, Rukia, Nel....

I like the majority of Kubo's female characters. They aren't all annoying and shit like that. Of course, they don't get as much fighting screentime as the men do, but that's just the way the ball bounces. When these characters are on screen, I can appreciate that they aren't written in a way that makes me say "well she's a female in a shounen battle manga, she's supposed to be annoying." I know that now you're probably thinking "but this motherfucker Stat Flow just listed Inoue" and then followed with "not annoying." Well, Inoue's character is one that I like because it's realistic to what a 17 year old girl in complete love with a dude is like. Girls in love are for the most part annoying because of their sometimes irrational and "whiny" situations. I like Inoue's demeanor and I can't blame Kubo for portraying her in a way that is realistic.

4. The Setting/Lore

Bleach is composed of a setting that I like. The whole Soul Society/Rukongai/Real world/Hueco Mundo/Royal Guard thing is interesting to say the least. The problem is, like Big One mentioned recently, is that there's not a lot of it. But what's there piques my interest. I want too see what's gonna happen.

4a. Lack Of Series Goal

Ichigo doesn't have some big thing that he wants to do. Nor does he care about recognition or how other people will perceive him at the end of the day. This is something I like about Ichigo. Others do look at it as lack of direction when it comes to plot, and I can definitely concede that point to them. But I'm not sure if lack of direction is necessarily a bad thing at all times. I like to not know where all of this is going in the grand scheme of things. I like not knowing what's going to happen at end game. I like the fact that Ichigo only wants to power to protect his friends, genuinely.

5. The Action (Mostly Hit, Sometimes BIG MISS)

The fights in Bleach, which there are plenty of, are sometimes creative, and just pretty good fun. In the most recent arc, there weren't as many good fights, but there were two that I really loved: Ikkaku vs. Mohawk, and Tsukishima vs. Byakuya. They were well paced, well drawn, and interesting/tension filled enough to not be completely predictable.

Cool poses aside, I think that Kubo knows how to do action well. The biggest problem I have is that he seems to either not be able to come up with something more creative with his Main Character, or that he just doesn't want to for some (terrible) reason. Ichigo's fight against Ginjou was awful. I really do expect this last arc to be chalk-full of awesome action.

Of course, not everything is good on this Bleach train. As we all know, Kubo's writing is downright poor at times. Not only can it be ambiguous, but also very confusing/messy . His treatment of some characters is disappointing. Pacing is also a huge issue, and if it weren't for that bad pacing, a lot of people might look at this progression differently. Ichigo needs to have a bigger range of shit for his upcoming fights, because compared to everyone else, Getsuga Tenshou is stale. I'm sure that Kubo can come up with something. Now that we're end game, we need to have a goal or something established.

I'm probably forgetting some things, and I didn't want to take too much time writing this up, so yeah.

Another thing that helps is that I rewatched the Bleach anime with my sister so that she could get introduced/caught up to Bleach after reading it all the first time around. There are a lot of things that people forget from the first arc(s) that are definitely important now.

Oh, and insulting is the best way to show people that you care. It's great to insult people. As long as it doesn't get personal. Roll on, Mangaf.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_(manga) maybe. possibly. I don't know. It's got yakuza and is from the same author. no idea about the quality.

^^ Holy shit stat flow for writing all of that. And holy shit me for reading all of that.
I appreciate that you acknowledge Bleach's faults but I hate almost everything you like so much about it. I guess it's just personal preference. Great post.

I was reading this manga long before it reached 100 chapters and I stopped, when they were trying to prevent some ultimate magic from being restored or some shit I definitely won't be continuing it.

I will eventually.
I dunno about something similar to Sanctuary but if you want a good manga about bros saving bros and beating all the odds then Legend of the Strongest Man Kurosawa or Gambling Emperor Zero are good reads assuming you can stand the art

I only read good manga:

Berserk, Advance of the Giants, Solanin, etc

You gonna have to expand on that etc so we can judge you properly.

One Piece is better than Shingeki imo, though I can't really form a proper opinion on it cause I haven't caught up with the latest volume release yet. Shingeki falls prey to fucked up perspective and proportions in the actual art and a lot of problems seinen manga fall to in something I call "Let's kill everyone." I'd suggest people should just read the classics (Slam Dunk, Rurouni Kenshin), Fullmetal Alchemist, Jojo if they want some truly great shonen manga

I am self appointed biggest Akagi and Kaiji fan on here so the art won't be a problem.

I actually was reading Legend of the strongest man at one point not entirely sure why I stopped though, Oh and I have been meaning to check out Gambling Emperor Zero.

Just one question though are they finished? I am kinda shying away from taking up an ongoing series.

Kurosawa is finished and it's all translated so that's good. Zero Part 1 is finished but Part 2 is ongoing. I say still read it since part 1 is like Kaiji Season 1. It's great on its own and you don't necessarily need to watch the second part.

Sun-ken Rock?

Yea, The Breaker needs to be on that list.

;)
One of these days this Korean battle shit manga bubble will burst and the scene will either abandon it or start bringing classier stuff

Why Me Cry Pt. 4: Why A Bleach Fan Likes Bleach

Agree wholeheartedly, after watching through my DVDs and seeing how the anime fares towards the manga, I realised I like Bleach a lot more than I thought I did. I would put a lack of series goal down as a Negative though personally.

negima - 353

So basically Asuna has to go bye-bye for a long ass period of time, but Chao steps in and time travels her back so it's like she never had to leave at all!

Akamatsu is a fucking hack.

Time travel something something paradox something something...

StarCraft 2 battle manga.

Accel World (ch9)

-Furry fans, rejoice.

Wait, what?

zKKTO.png

Oh damn, that shit is ballin.

Way too many fucking rules in this manga. I feel like I'm learning an SRPG.

Hmm guess I will try Gambling Emperor Zero then since I already have an idea as to what Legend of the strongest man is about.

You don´t like Bromomura. He´s is the best bro. As far as i am concerned Komunura and Mayuri are the only that i like.

The Bleach anime is so much better than the manga thanks to better pacing once you skip the fillers.
I rather watch back Bleach then read it back which i will do before the last arc ends.

For everyone complaining about Advance of the Giant's art, they fail to notice the raw energy in every single action shot that most mangas fail to deliver on.

The art is getting better, but I think it works just right for the subject material

Thats what Accel World is about? Cant wait to see it animated. April, favorite va for the lead character even.
Yea, I think it will be pretty good actually. The loli princess wearing "that outfit" will be a little off-putting but the plot is pretty tight. Futuristic, game'ish, etc... Kind of like a cross between Gantz and [C] Money (which sucked). And bursting is a really cool fucking idea since it crosses boundaries.
Mayuri
Shinji
Bromamura
Kenpachi
Kensei
Unohana
No Shunsui? /fail

>Story about college graduates being uncertain about their life
>"Classy"

We have film medium for this shit!
Go watch the Solanin movie

You are doing such a good job selling the manga

Yes, the anime is, something about the visuals, music, and additional dialogue helps make it excellent.

Really? I loved C, one of my favorites of last year (ah and it had such a good ending animation and song, school food punishment forever), cool Main character.

Sounds like the series will come to life well animated, hype.

Ok, I forgot about him and his OP Shikai. His coughing buddy sucks though

You can up to Level 2!
Y0 dude, higher levels is going to be some Neo Matrix shit.

You know what bugs me about the manga though? They really ditched that whole "camera" system that was explained so well (no pantsu). So it became like we have to take it for granted that all IRL bursts are tracked by the bazillions of cameras in the world... Should have just said there is some futuristic 3d mapping technology or something.

I don't read any good manga to compare it to. How about it is a cross between Asura Cryin and Summer Wars?

lol
