Hell yeah.

There was some of lag in the registering of some achievements and I replayed a couple of stages more than necessary, but all's good. Lovely game.

Well done-congratulations!

Will Kairosoft finally go universal? Or is it just the smartphone app on your tablet?

If the iOS version behaves how the android one does, then it will definitely be a universal app. It seems to know i'm on a tablet with it higher res interface and it being full screen (although the resolution of the games assets are still the same as previous games). It even gives you the option for what type of scaling for the graphics (although the smooth option seems too demanding for my asus transformer prime).

Also, are the mechanics different than Grand Prix Story? For some reason that just did not click with me.

Quite a bit different from that. You build a town and adventures go outside of town and do their own thing unless you send them on quests. Also, you try to keep increasing your town popularity so more adventures will come to your town or even move in.

Eh, I really think people's fixation with getting gear faster in IB games and feeling like they're forced to buy IAP is a bit weird. You definitely don't need it because, aside from the hardcore New Game+ mode, if anything most battles are a bit on the easy side. So then the only remaining argument is "without IAP it would take me ages to unlock everything", which is exactly what I love: I don't play the game to unlock weapons and armor, I play it because I like getting better at the game. I prefer it taking forever to unlock everything rather than the feeling I had with, for example, Jetpack Joyride, where I got all the achievements and missions way before I thought it would end.

Imo a lot of people have such a fixation against IAP that any game that makes extensive use of it, even when it's unnecessary to buy anything to enjoy the game, becomes evil and 'ruined'. It's odd to see how IAP options that are basically cheats and are hidden away on a menu that I myself never see when playing these games are seemingly 'ruining' other people's experiences of the game. It's like it's just the psychological effect of knowing that it can be bought, even though the game holds up perfectly without it.

I think you hit the nail on the head there. You can play the entire game through to completion without ever touching IAP (or even really coming close). The remaining content isn't even new content; it's the same content at a harder difficulty level, so it's not like they've locked anything away from you. NG+ is for players who are really hardcore and want to master the mechanics of the game and play an experience that will never end. If IAP wasn't in the game, those who have been complaining about it would have otherwise just put it down at that point and say "meh, that's for people who are way better at the game than me," and they would have probably been pretty happy with that experience. And there are plenty of people in this very thread who beat NG+ and enjoyed it without spending an extra penny. If you aren't that hardcore enough about the game to do that, then that's fine; I would still argue that the first playthrough alone was easily worth the price of admission.

There are plenty of games in the App Store that abuse IAP. Infinity Blade 2 isn't a good case study for this.

I'm with Reese-015 regarding this IB discussion. In fact, I have IB2 but haven't even properly started it because I'm still replaying the New Game+ of the first one in-between other games. Ultimately I'll master all items but the reason I'm doing it is precisely because I just enjoy the game that much. It doesn't matter how long it takes to get the new equipment as long as the game is still playable. That goes for any game prone to grinding for me, if I feel like playing it to completion it's because I enjoy the process of doing it. Buying IAP in IB would actually go against this notion. If the IAP isn't locking any in-game content or making the game legitimately impossible to play then I don't care about it.

Well done-congratulations!
Thanks. :) Really enjoyed playing this one to 100%.

It was actually NG+ I was referring to, I finished the regular game no worries. But no matter what game mode you're in, it's disheartening to see that when scrolling through the shop, you need to spend a stupid amount of time (ie. seemingly hundreds of hours) and/or money ($50+ from memory) in obtaining higher-tier items. As someone who needs to *complete* games to be finished with them, this pissed me off no end. If it's DLC, call it DLC but don't mask it in the form of something that's attainable when it essentially isn't.

I'm trying to find any anecdotes of people who have legitimately unlocked the IB in IB2 without using IAP but I'm struggling... but I'm sure it would be in the realm of the previously mentioned hundreds of hours.

Edit: Apologies, it's closer to $20.

Did EA forget about Boom Blox? I feel like there's something they could do with that one on iOS...

I suppose to comes down to your definition of "complete." I saw the end credits. I enjoyed the experience. That was enough for me. It's still sitting on my iPhone and I know I can go back to it if I really want to, but I'm perfectly content with the experience I had. To me, that was a "complete" experience.

On another note, I just finished 3-starring every level in League of Evil 2. The recent patch really tightened up the controls (mostly by relaxing the wall-jump timing just a smidge). Such a fantastic game. Anyone who reflexively thinks "shitty" when they see virtual controls would do themselves a favor to play this one.

Yup. Felt very much the same way for a while, even feel like I jumped into IB2 a bit too soon as I was still enjoying the first after what was perhaps already a hundred hours of play.

I don't have it yet in IB2 but then again I haven't worked towards it yet. I switched to NG+ pretty fast and feel like I could get the IB in a day's work if I wanted to. Just sell lots of the gems I find and stop spending money on gear (Which you CAN do btw, as well as sell duplicate gear. I've played through tons of bloodlines without upgrading my gear, resulting in TONS of money without having to spend anything on IAP.).

Mass Effect Infiltrator so far feels quite similar to Dead Space iOS.

I have played through the first two missions and the shooting is fine. Get into cover then tap on a enemy to target and start shooting automatically then adjust aim with the fake joysticks. It is quite weird when I cannot target an enemy with my Assault Rifle because he is out of range.

Powers are easy to use with just a tap to active or tap and hold to change. You change weapons in the same way. You buy new weapons and powers or upgrade your existing items with credits you earn around the world.

Something I wasn't expecting was that after every bit of combat you get ranked on how you went and get credits based on that, you also find credits on terminals and around the world like in the main games.

The story is told in a very similar way to Dead Space iOS, you have someone talking in your ear giving you story at all times. I don't think there are any dialogue trees and your only form of interaction with other character is to choose Paragon or Renegade and so far they seem to not have any impact other then what your character does in the next few seconds.

I guess so far I am enjoying it and it looks very nice but I think if you didn't enjoy Dead Space iOS or any other twin stick shooters you probably will not enjoy this unless you are a huge Mass Effect fan. I will continue playing and see how it goes.

Via the official Cytus Facebook page:

What we've been working on off late, is the new patch of update of Cytus on iOS (Ver.1.2.0) as well as Cytus on Android (for both free & paid version). Hopefully, the aforementioned will be released either by the end of Mar. or the beginning of Apr. As for the changes of features, we will leave that for you guys to find out soon.

Does anyone know why the game "Mass Effect: Galaxy" isn't available to buy anymore? I just recently got an iphone and in anticipation of ME3 I wanted to play this game (even though I know that it isn't very good).

I read that it was permanently pulled in anticipation of ME Infiltrator.
I can only guess that it was due to quality issues and not wanting to further pollute the App Store.

*shrugs*
Stupid decision, IMHO. Glad I bought it ages ago, though I never managed to get around to playing it.

Not totally on topic but still related so I figured I'd post this.

Just saw this posted on the official appstore fb-page:

App Store
Congratulations go out to Chunli F., who has won a US $10,000 iTunes Gift Card in celebration of 25 billion apps downloaded from the App Store.

Woah, I'm very surprised by Mass Effect. It isn't a mundane shooter with horrible controls like Dead Space. Instead, it has a much more fun and easier to use system that works similar to Epoch, but unlike that game, you can move anywhere you want.

You can also collect points in order to upgrade your dude, and the game is divided in little shooting segments where you can get up to three stars depending on how good you fight.

So far I'd totally recommend it, even more if you are a big ME fan and can't wait for 3 tomorrow.

I can't imagine that even the most voracious App Store goers have spent $1000 total on apps. $10,000 is insane for just App Store credit, I'd much rather have Apple Store credit and buy an iPad for every room in the house :-p

I don't get the Dead Space hate.

Sure, it's far from great, and it definitely hovers in the mediocre territory, but terrible? The level design is incredibly bland, I agree, but at least the game has good graphics (at least by the time it was released), a cool atmosphere, some (albeit few) exciting setpieces, great controls, satisfying dismemberment gameplay and a mildly interesting story. It sure is a better game than Shadowgun, which by comparison had terrible gunplay, terrible AI (didn't matter much in DS) and a level design almost as generic.

About Mass Effect, I'm fine with a shooter, as long as it's a solid shooter. AI seems terribad from some videos I saw though, so I guess I'll wait for reviews too. I like your idea though. A 4X strategy game (like Starbase Orion) could be cool too.

I'm of the opinion that mediocre is just as bad as terrible though. Because if you go on a simple thumbs up / thumbs down system, then they both come out as a thumbs down. And sometimes mediocre is worse.

I played all of Dead Space. I was excited for it, I let myself be deluded by it since I love the console games. I kept waiting for it to get good but it never did, and so I spent what, four or five hours on something that had next to no merit, I totally wasted my time, and now I'm bitter :P

With DS the atmosphere was the only thing that came across well, and even that wore off after an hour when I figured out how the levels were structured and could see the ambushes coming a mile off. The graphics were smoke and mirrors with baked on lighting in the textures. The controls were fine and the combat was servicable, but it was all in service of nothing.

I think that by dint of the names, these games sell really well, and so it's a shame that the games are so bland because they'll sell much more than they deserve.

Well, one way or another, looks like Mass Effect is not good. Game is being trashed at TA, and even people who like it says it's worse than Dead Space, which wasn't great to begin with (some might say it was terrible :P).

Do you mean getting the IB in non NG+? I got that in a matter of 1-2 hours of play with some gold gems. I'm now level 60 and about to go into NG+, having mastered almost every single item without spending anything on IAPs.

I do agree that money making is far slower than IB1 though, I made a billion in that game in no time in comparasion. It largely stems from not being able to sell gear you only have 1 of.

Personally I think people complaining about IAP have an OCD about complaining about IAPs. :P

This is a shame, especially since I can't afford ME3 this month and so was waiting for this to tide me over. Booooo EA!

free Beat Hazard Ultra and Jenga.. sooo awesome, I love this thread. can't wait to mess around with BHU on my iPhone, played the hell out of it on Steam.

ME Infiltrator is pretty wank overall sadly. Controls are a bit wonky, but get better once you realize the levels are constructed so that you can auto-leapfrog from cover to cover and shoot *any* enemy from safety without damage (once the icon to jump over/to the side appears you magnetize to the next cover). Shows some sign of fun once you get some more abilities than lift and the shotgun. Seems the devs played that Unreal Engine robot cover shooter whose name escapes me and thought that'd be a good thing to badly ape.

Sub-par production value so far, looped voice-overs. You literally hear a 3 second "I'm the commander of this base and here's my Cerberus morale booster speech" speakerphone-voice in the second level 20 times in that level alone even while in the midst of the base being invaded.

Also they totally recycled the game over noise from Dead Space.

Maybe I'll try out Pocket Planes since I was definitely not into Tiny Tower. Running out of money then having to wait for more was kind of a turn off.

Nimblebits next game

looks a lot like Tiny Tower

They said it's going to try to be more gamey. I assume that means more decision making required instead of being addicted to endlessly hitting buttons because it's the only thing to do.

No.... no, no, no, no, no, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Not again!

Speaking of Tiny Tower, are they done updating it? I've got 8 empty floors that need filling.

Wow, I also noticed that Beat Hazard was free, and downloaded it right away. I'm an avid Trance music lover (duh :) ) and i really love the visuals and the graphics and the lighting FX. This game rocks!

I've been playing and enjoying 100 Rogues. Thanks for the recommendation.

The only downside is that it's the first game I have encountered with a shitton of IAP's. Damn, they are annoying. For some reason it drags down the experience for me, I can't explain why.

It's a shame that Beat Hazard doesn't work with Spotify on iOS. I saw on the Steam forums that it's possible for them to hook Spotify in and that they'll look into it so hopefully it's not too far off. I don't have any non-Spotify music on my iPad.

I decided to pick up Game Dev Story yesterday; my first Kairosoft game.

If there's one thing I've learned from playing that game, it seems that all game critics are dicks. :)

If any game suffered from bad management / lack of direction that's it. One of the dev's was pretty active on the TA forums and he seemed to be a nice guy but was left having to defend many shitty decisions (at one point they sneaked banner ads into the game, which is not free...they didn't last long).

The new characters were supposed to be free updates, I get the impression they ran out of money and decided to monetize the shit out of it.

Still the best roguelike on iOS though.

Looking forward to it!

3...2...1... inevitable Sky Plane Empire/Dream(TM) by Zynga.

Announcing it this early just gives Zynga a chance to release theirs first.

Anyway, it looks awesome, will definitely download day one. I don't think people that didn't like Tiny Tower should get their hopes up too much. It's not going to be a strategy game, there's not going to be any way you can fail. There might be different ways to go about your business, some of which are more profitable than others, but it's not going to be Sim Airline.

If you're the kind of person that compares Tiny Tower to Kairosoft's stuff, I imagine you're still going to be disappointed.
