Halo 4 Interview With Footage, Probably No Beta [Up: Official Making Of Video]

Bottom right corner. Anybody got an idea of what (><) means?

GrenadesinFirstLookTrailer.png

It means everyone that is looking forward to Halo 4 go pick up a used copy of Shadowrun and play it until Halo 4 is released.

I thought Reach's firefight was perfection. I would give anything for some new maps.
Fucking Bungie ruined it by implementing matchmaking..

I don't want to play firefight with randoms. And I don't want to play some stupid firefight where everyone has unlimited ammo rocket launchers.

Actually it'd be fine if they had matchmaking for FF if you didn't earn like 15 credits for playing a 2 hour long Firefight outside of matchmaking, and 5,000 credits for playing a 15 minute FF in matchmaking.

Me and my friends played the hell out of FF in ODST. It was amazing, favorite multiplayer mode of some time. But in Reach we've barely played it. Because we have to enter matchmaking, get paired up with some random dick that shoots at US, and lately it seems you only get firefight modes like "BANANA GORILLA NADE" or "ROCKET AWESOME LOL" which completely suck. And you get lag, which I never really experienced in ODST.

Take ODST's firefight, and just give it more goals to strive for. The only problem with that game's FF was that after you got the 2 or 3 achievements for reaching a certain number of points, there wasn't much to go for. But other than that it was kick-ass.

I have no friends who play Halo, so I should not be able to play Firefight? :-(
No, you sad, sad person.

;-)

Nah, but it's just that Bungie destroyed ODST's long, challenging firefights when they decided to focus on 15 minute matchmaking FF. Everything you play in Reach earns you credits and whenever you play you want to level up and earn more armor etc.

But if you want to play a 1 hour long FF with real challenging waves of enemies and such, you have to play it outside of matchmaking and earn, like I said, basically zero credits regardless of how long you play.

If Bungie had left room for both I'd be fine with it. Maybe have a playlist for long matches and short, so those who don't have ADD and want to spend more than 10-15 minutes on a match can do that.

Also, you can't seriously like the fucking gametypes they put up in the firefight playlist?? Been a while since I played but when I did it was impossible to find a FF match where you got a DMR or even pistol. It was all FRGs and rockets and whatnot.

One thing this thread, and even more so the forums over at Halo Waypoint, show is that people have very particular ideas about what makes Halo great, and these opinions vary dramatically from person to person.

Take sprint for example.
For some people it is an unnecessary addition that encourages players to flee from a firefight when they are on the back foot rather than stay and duke it out like a man.
For others it is a much needed addition to a game where player movement is on the slow side anyway and entirely necessary in an age where lack of sprint is seen as a relic of FPS gaming in the N64/PS1 era.

The point is that when you get a game like Halo, that has such a dedicated and vocal fanbase, everyone seems to have a slightly different opinion about what makes the games good and bad, what needs to be added and what is unnecessary.

Clearly the most important thing for us all should be the fact that 343 seem to really share that passion. The staff there really seem to respect the franchise and fully grasp that they are working on one of the biggest franchises in gaming. You may disagree with some of their decisions or some of their thoughts but at least we have a team that is really passionate about the franchise developing Halo 4.
Not just passionate but talented in spades, a real 'super team' of talent. That is the most important thing, their passion and their talent. I truly believe the game is in good hands even if I dont agree with every single small detail. Have faith in the professionals! :)

I've no problem with sprint but they should make it so that you can be detected from further away on the radar or something like that.

Not even that. Make sprint slower, so you can't rush people, or make beat downs weaker (three-hit beatdown would be perfect). The problem with Sprint in Reach is that you can rush people, and beat them down twice before they can react.

And I don't have a problem with anything that's included as long it's balanced. That's why I think armour pickups could be a great idea.

Essentially what happened with dual wielding weapons was that you were creating combined weapons that played differently together. An SMG plus a plasma rifle (my favorite combination) was completely different than two SMGs, which was different from a plasma pistol plus a plasma rifle, etc. The biggest misstep was the needler, which should never have been dual wieldable.
I absolutely agree with you about the dual wielding discussion, and with the Needler note. It's one weapon that was not needed to become a dual wield weapon and would've sufficed as a single wield and in the mid range attack scenario. The Magnum was amazing pre-patch but still a worthwhile weapon to pickup for the headshot capability afterwards. The SMG-Mag combo was a terrific combo, as was the SMG-PR for the shield shredding rush. Even without a combo, the SMG for itself is just as limited as the AR has been since. The Assault Rifle is one that does not need to be for intermediate range - its best in its own range and that is close quarters or finishing up weak shields.

Really intrigued to hear more info regarding tons of things. Melee strength, grenades, other weaponry, the abilities and loadouts, and the new vehicles.

I don't mind the odd cameo appearance from the covenant. As long as the forerunner (or equivalent) are the primary enemy I'll be happy.

There's a teenager in the video (that grimacing girl), so either there's going to be a full human/covenant party at some point in the place that Chief and Cortana discovered or the game will also take place elsewhere, in human inhabited parts of the galaxy. Perhaps MC is not going to be the only playable character?

I'm quite sure that this is the case, Dev (I think) said something about Covies being there but don't play a major role.

Couldn't you just play FF with your friends if you wanted to?

It would actually be silly to ignore the races that made up the Covenant entirely.
They are such a large part of the Halo mythology and they didnt magically disappear after Halo 3.
I know some people wanted Halo 4 to just be Chief and Cortana exploring a new planet and fighting new foes but one of the best part of Halo was the big battles in campaign, Chief, a handful of marines, a warthog squaring off against a bunch of different covenant vehicles and enemy types.

If you take away Chiefs allies then you lose that feeling of two armies duking it out, so at some point in the game (maybe halfway) I expect human allies to turn up - and if humans then why not some covenant allies as well - could be pretty cool.

I'm kind of disappointed that the engine reveal for Halo 4 was so boring. Instead of the jubilant screams of a convention crowd, we just get an odd trickle of interviews and a vidoc that doesn't say much.

Where's the showmanship that capped the reveals of Halo 2 and Halo 3?

So this is Halo 4. Looking good from what i´ve seen :)
Actually i´m quite surprised just how much this looks like Halo, if someone would tell me that Bungie made this i would believe that person. I wonder what their FOV is though, from the video is looks not as wide as it was in Halo: Anniversary. 90 degrees please!!!!

I much prefer the approach 343i have taken. The fact is, Halo 2 and Halo 3 despite being incredible games - were disappointing by many measures... mostly due to the fact that during the first showings, teasers, marketing campaigns, hype-building activities etc - the games were met with massive reactions and in turn, massive expectations. I think it would have been easy for 343i to create a Halo 2 E3 Earth Invasion video, or some serious bullshot CGI trailer and have everyone salivating and cheering... and then of course, come release time, everyone says "Well it's amazing... but why didn't X make it in" or "it doesn't look as nice".

Instead, 343i have released - as far as we can possibly tell, actual ingame footage and realistic expectations. Having a big reveal and a cheering crowd would have done little else but start the over-hyped-impossible-to-meet-expectations that every Halo game has received since Halo 2.

I'm not 100% convinced 343i will be able to avoid the mega-hype train we're used to seeing behind a Halo release, at least in a way that will avoid the backlash. Finally, I think more than ever 343i have to show that they're taking the Halo mantle (burden?) seriously - as I'm not sure there is a more nit-picking fanbase in all of videogame-dom. Planning a grand reveal with showmanship would have done them very few favours with respect to the fanbase - anyone can make an impressive isolated trailer/demo/target... 343i were intelligent enough to show just how much thought is being put into the game alongside snippets of classic Halo BR gameplay to bring said fanbase on board.

All of that said, I look forward to the inevitable HUGE reaction at E3. I need a time machine - this wait will be unbearable.

90 degrees on consoles... unlikely. Looks about the same FOV as Halo 3, BR is a lot bigger though (which doesn't bother me, but I know some people don't like huge weapons covering the screen)

True, its not as if the races that made the Covenant are all extinct. When they do come back though, I'd like to see someone leading them and similar to a Halo 2 villain. I could imagine a Brute Chieftain leading remnants of the Covenant throughout space. Also, since it looks like the UNSC finds MC, I expect the Arbiter to be with them.

Edit: I just remembered since there is a story behind the multiplayer, I wonder if you be able to play as an Elite still.

So what are the chances of having some serious enviromental effects...at least in cp? Snow, rain, hard wind? Day/Night transition in a level? And don't tell me its not possible because H3beta had the most amazing skybox ever (aside from Red Dead Redemption and its amazingly lifelike skybox/transition animation) Going into space with that banshee is still one of my greatest gaming moments. The transition was perfect.

It would be nice if each level in cp was separated by unique environmental attributes. A hot burning desert (like in the reveal), a drizzling overcast level, a roaring thunderstorm, then a stage where the storm and clouds broke for a clear bright blue sky, then a level that showed a really nice day to night transition, yadayada.

I know Reach tried some, but the overall atmosphere didn't really work.

Considering the planet that Chief was falling towards at the end of Halo 3 looked like fucking Cybertron, I'd be happy with anything resembling organic life, let alone weather.
