Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced in 2006. It is now 2012. These are facts.

I don't understand why it is taking them so long. TF2 was started when Valve was still small and on a tighter budget, and went through some drastic redesigns and came out awesome. They were being careful. Square has so many resources it seems like they are just focused on all their shovel-ware these days.

I always got the impression that Square kept taking people who were supposed to be working on Versus and putting them on other projects for some reason. Almost like they didn't ever want the game to actually make any progress.

If the concept work shown recently for version 2.0 is to be believed, FFXIV is looking to be completely redesigned... and will look phenomenal. Again, this is S-E circa 2012 we are talking about here, so it will have to be seen/played to be believed, but this relaunch seems like a pretty massive deal.

I also honestly wouldn't be surprised if S-E has redesigned Versus' overall gameplay over the last 'demo' and will rebrand it with a new name, possibly even FFXV as to not break the "3 Main FF's Per Console" cycle. As many others have pointed out, with the reactions to XIII & XIII-2, an already confusing name has the potential to be a nightmare to consumers that don't spend as much time as we do on forums.

FFXIV (relaunch) in 2012
FFXV (formerly VersusXIII) in 2013
*new video game generation begins late '13 or sometime in '14*
FFXVI in 2015/16?

S-E is crazy these days. I wouldn't put anything past Wada.

I also think that at this point the name Versus XIII needs to be dropped. It creates confusion, it relates the title to other games perceived as disappointments.
The fact that they're using the same themes/mythology used in the other XIII games is not much of a problem considering that the story is original, it's not like it takes two games to explain things like what a Fal'cie is and who Etro is :D

As for FFXIV I believe that the product will be niche anyway. The serious damage has already been done. Maybe if they can get good reviews and good word of mouth with the PS3 version they can build a small paying community but still it's too late.

I saw that somebody bumped the thread.. I hoped it was some kind of Junior who can't make a thread and used this one to post news.

Now, I'm just a little more desperate than before.
Yeah. Every time a FF vs XIII thread is bumped, I take off my pants and ready the the lube. Then I click to see what's the news. False flags, every time :(

Tetsuya Nomura says in this week's Famitsu that he's almost ready with preparations for sharing new Final Fantasy Versus XIII info. So does that mean we can expect an update soon?

Apparently not. According to Nomura, certain circumstances, which he describes as "totally unrelated," are preventing him from sharing the info. He also said that he's not allowed to talk about the situation, so all he can do is continue engaging in discussions. Discussions with who? He didn't say.

Mysterious!

They're just trolling the fanbase at this point

Why do SE always prevent him from sharing his info? I can understand FFXIII and maybe XIII-2 but this is getting ridiculous. I don't think DQX could be the reason for shutting up Nomura.

I really don't see what could be holding Nomura back from talking about the game more other than a name change and/or platform change.

I mean, XIII-2 is out and forgotten already. The time to promote Versus is now.

Maybe Nomura doesn't actually have info to share but wants to make it look like the game is farther along than it is to keep people from freaking out?

What the fine fiddly foo flippin' fuck does that mean?

What is going on ever there?

Do we need to stage a raid?

This game is starting to remind me of concept cars they display at car shows that are never put into production but are really snazzy to look at and think about.

I'm truly unable to understand why so many people still care about this game. Where is the indication that this is going to be anything special after all this time, and not just another Duke Nukem Forever? Were screens/video/gameplay systems shown so far that compelling for this title? Honestly asking here. I mean, you can't tell me it's just the name anymore; the name's been dragged through the mud over the last decade by not only the side titles (the mediocre GC/Wii CC games) but the main ones as well (XIII/2 and XIV).

I was as ardent an FF fanboy as any six years ago, but man, I found it hard to keep caring about this game.

Every single announcement and non-announcement these days feels like such a joke. Like a begging and pleading to continue fostering interest even though development may not have moved forward an inch since the last announcement.

What a clusterfuck this game has become. Square Enix just needs to cancel it, count their losses, and move on. There's no way the game will be worth the wait if it's ever released.
