The original release of the original TV anime adaptation of Gunslinger Girl was actually bundled with a series of PS2 games - the only way to get the show was to buy the games. Funny thing is that it ended up being cheaper than a normal R2 release would be (only three volumes!), plus you got a bunch of PS2 games (not particularly great ones, but I got my play from them) and some better-than-average first-pressing extras.

I fully expected to be fond of Ichika when I started watching the show--boobs, glasses, red hair, what could go wrong? But (I mean I don't give a shit about the characters tbh) Kanna won (just kinda saying here, I really don't care) my (I really don't care) heart (seriously I don't).

Sora no Otoshimono is weird. I've seen tons of recommendation, so I've finally decided to give it a spin, but I really don't know what to think. I don't really like the characters, I don't really like the art, but I simply couldn't stop watching for some reason. The whole show is completely schizophrenic, and I have no idea what it's trying to achieve or how I'm supposed to feel about it. It's just all over the place. It never manages to walk the fine line between extremes, it always stumbles back and forth like a drunkard. It's sometimes genuinely hilarious, sometimes embarrassingly stupid, and sometimes really depressing and just plain evil (poor Nymph) - and every once in a while, it even manages to make me feel warm and fuzzy for a moment, which is really rare for a harem show (I won't even call it a comedy, because whenever something meaningful happens, it's usually not funny at all). So basically... I'm puzzled.

I think it is a fanservice show, just not the one you'd expect. But I guess you can't necessarily show great animation on a DVD cover. Of course there is the conventional kind of fanservice too.

Plenty going on, usual comedy and character development but also quite a bit of drama, action and dare I say it, danger? Shima's friendly rival Rinna,

previously from Ultima, jumps on the Stellvia bandwagon and is just moe and chick enough to be accepted. Turns out she skipped a grade due to being such a dork and even then is still better than the majority of Shima's class, including Shima herself much to her dismay.

She actually has a personality though, unlike the blatant ass-kissing students in my schoolin years, so Shima and the gang can't help but love her. Like the rest of the characters in this show, I have a strange feeling I'll like her too.

potential Shima love interest Kouta's allowing it to be that way. Again in this episode we see him doing better than anyone by far in simulation, but only in private. Does he not like piloting? Does he not want to save humanity? Is he a jerk? Why's he even on Stellvia? I'm really intrigued by his character. He's talented, cares a lot for Shima and is always smiling. Behind all that though there are so many unresolved questions. I'm looking forward to seeing this developed in episodes to come and it seems this could happen sooner rather than later. Both he and Shima were picked, along with the "Big Four", to represent Stellvia in the "Great Mission" (I don't know therefore radiation)

I get the feeling I've heard this somewhere before...

Anyway, this episode had a thrilling almost-conclusion.

Shima basically saves Rinna from being HORRIBLY KILLED while the two were sparring in their Biancas, putting her own life at risk. Take that, teachers pet!

It's actual conclusion though was light-hearted cause heaven forbid this show force me to watch more than one episode in a sitting. Suits me.

I really feel that .gifs would be useful in describing this shows high quality animation - however I have no-idea how to make them so y'all just have to settle with "it looks pretty great", especially for a TV show.

Really excellent visual presentation would, of course, be an Idolm@ster sized waste if they weren't supporting a good show. I've barely got to grips with the show but so far it's a lot of fun to watch. I'm really glad the writing for this show isn't as terrible as the cover art had led me to believe - these characters actually seem pretty likeable.

I look forward to watching more.

I was getting tired of Kae Araki's VA, it just wasn't nearly as fantastic as Kotono Mitsuishi's, glad she's back. Happiness~

Anyway, this was a fuckawesome episode, with some Fabulous Max scenes and plenty of funny bits, even the MOTW was awesome.

Wouldn't expect less from Ikuhara.

It's funny you should say that because there was even a childhood friend who pre-dated the childhood friend and got rejected warning shot lulz.
Although getting friendzoned in a dating sim adaptation where each girl had their own arc was not cool.

So we're into full on sports-show mode here people. No-one's getting fooled into thinking this is about Taichi-Arata-Chihaya or any of that wishy-washy character drama. It's about card positioning, karuta play style, memorization, technique, posture, the physical conditions present in a karuta tournament and so on. If you're into that stuff then I guess you won't mind episodes like these. Personally, I find them to be a bit of a bore.

Also, we've become a sports-show it's time to embrace some sports-show plotting which makes it pretty easy to predict how these various matches will turn out.

As the author is content to let this series run as long as it will run they're in no rush to have the characters win everything, this much is clear. When you have a scenario like Chihaya vs. the Previous Queen you know that the Previous Queen will win because her 'comeback story' is more interesting than 'just another victory for Chihaya'. Moreover, Chihaya's story will be told every week, where as the Previous Queen is just getting this episode, so it makes sense to have her win here - it's more efficient.
