NFL Off-Season Thread: "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?"

I should state I have no problem with religion and those who are pious - my sister is a born again Christian, her family is extremely devout and I'll never argue with her about religion even though I consider myself more agnostic.

But fucking Santorum? That walking piece of excrement?!

Washington is actually only giving up 2 firsts in the above scenario since they're trading up. You swap the '12 1st round selection with the Rams, and give up 2 picks to do it. Everyone does it, and maybe my brain it wired differently, but I see it as giving up 2 not 3 since you're swapping one of the selections.

I think he can play, doesn't have a lot of mileage, but if some team does do it and it works out short term, this dude may get one rookie contract and then what? Franchise him a couple of times and send him on his way.

I guess, it will be interesting to see how his career pans out.

Except there is something to be said about building your team overtime and seeing what your needs are each season. I don't think 3 #1s necessarily equals a 1-2-3 this year if you're not expecting to win right now, which is what your expectations should be with a rookie QB. I would argue that 2 #1s is more equal to a 1-2-3. Even then I'm not sure because next years 1st rounder for a team that picks RG3 is still likely going to be a really good pick because of QB transition.

It's not exact. The Rams want to deal with CLE. CLE doesn't want to give up that second #1. So it's all posturing. CLE can't sell Weeden to those fans. Not after all the crap they've put them through

A public rebuke sucks for the Skins, but they should be looking for a QB in the draft. Shanny is crafty, and drafting Tannehill buys him time. He'll need to sit for a year, so RGIIIv1 can lead the team next year and take the youngster under his wing
I will not be happy if they end up drafting a second-rate prospect like Tannehill or Weeden. RG3 or bust.

I hope Santorum wins so I can get a Santorum for President bumper sticker. Santa Cruz may be the most liberal, hippy filled city in the country, and it'll stir up shit. My McCain/Palin sticker got me so many honks and birds, but this will put that to shame. I don't even vote.

Non voting felon for the win!

I wouldn't take him early because of his age, but if he is successful he'll be a really cheap solution. Wonder how seriously teams value that aspect. Still, if you take him early and it blows up in your face, you'll never hear the end of it.

Seems like Harbaugh is committed to Smith, and the AFC would be a much easier road for him in the playoffs. I enjoy looking forward to all the articles next season blaming Smith once the 49ers regress to a 9 win team and a more realistic turnover ratio.

I think the only way they fall to 9 wins is if Frank Gore goes down, because that defense can carry the team.. so good

Maybe you missed Alex driving the team 85 yards to win the game against the saints and then driving 80 yards to win it a second time all within the last 4 minutes. Alex isn't elite but if you say he is the reason we lost the NFC title game you're fucking stupid.

And the cards are a lot more than a qb away from making the playoffs, let alone competing for a superbowl

I didn't say he cost you the game anywhere, did I? I just stated I don't see you winning the SB with him. You can't do shit against a solid D. You were lucky to get that one TD against us at the end of the season, let alone how you performed against Baltimore. Field goals aren't going to cut it.

Please, look at the difference between Colts with and without Manning. We are instant SB contenders if we get him and he's healthy. Our defense is better than it was when we made it to the SB and damn near won it. We can certainly pull it off. We need to fill in a few more holes, but we're close enough that someone of PM's caliber can catapult us up there for a shot. That again is assuming he's healthy and can perform.

Peyton better not come to the North. I am pretty sure he won't though and will to go to a dome team with good personnel.

I think Minny is out because APs injury is a question mark. Dallas and Detroit could be possible destinations depending on what ownership thinks of their current qb's. Arizona also might work, but I hate their owners so I don't think they deserve him. They probably dont has the balls to admit Kolb is a bum (ie pulling a yankeehater). New Orleans won't want him. Anyone else?
You're referring to Mike's father and Card fans hated him too. Michael has really turned things around. He promised us he'd spend the money to put a better product on the field if we helped him get a stadium and he has. He's paid good money to retain our key pieces: Fitz, Dockett, Wilson, and soon to be Campbell. He took a plunge both for the trade and for the money involved in the contract for Kolb. He is willing to spend. It's funny when people try to say the Cards are cheap because they are used to that being the case for so many years. Not so with Mike at the helm.

I can tolerate this thread being poluted with discussion on wrestling, videogames, beer, hunting, Kate Upton, and even fucking baseball, but I draw the line at politics. I swear to christ I will burn this fucker down if this turns into a political thread.

Holy...we resigned Chandler?

Two talented individuals who didn't leave town the moment their stock went above bottom of the barrel?

Hold me.

Danny Watkins was 27 when he was drafted by the Eagles last year wasn't he ?

Philadelphia Eagles
Watkins was selected with the 23rd overall pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2011 NFL Draft. He became the oldest first-round selection since 1980 at the age of 26. He was the first Canadian to be drafted in the first rounds of both the CFL and NFL drafts since Mike Schad in 1986.[2]

So i guess this puts him up there with oldest if there is older which I assume since it worded that way

2012 AFC East results

1. Patriots 12-4
2. Bills 9-7
3. Dolphins 8-8
4. Jets 6-10

Believe!

...you know what, besides the Pats being first, I'd fucking take it. I would be happy with a winning record, ecstatic with a playoff birth and I would have sex with Scarlett Johannsen and Mila Kunis if the Bills won the Super Bowl, because fuck it, at that point you know you're dreaming.

you're sleep deprived, being the father of young twins. So this one time, I will excuse you from mistakenly lumping Favre and Montana into the same category.
Farve is not half as good as Montana was and I will fight anyone to the death who says otherwise (looking at you Peter King), but he was definitely a legend (both good and bad).

I blame Young for not letting Montana retire as a Niner (and probably get them another 3 Superbowls, which actually I am ok with) and Rodgers for making Brent become a Jet and also that whole Superbowl nonsense (we totally would have beaten the Brent led Packers, fuck you Erron!). Fucking backup qb's... They can never be trusted. Tom Brady is also another good example of this. Backup qb's always have a perverted mind.

I am sleep deprived though. Both kids are sick. Ugh. I want to get away...

We will even trade you Tom in a few years when the Mallet era starts.

If Shanahan drafts Tannehill (and plans on starting him next season) and he doesn't go at least 8-8 (and put up good stats while doing so), Shanahan is gone after next season.

Ugh... it pains me to know that Houston is the perfect landing spot for Peyton and it won't happen because the FO wouldn't cut Shaub.

Cards couldn't win Super Bowl WITH a hof qb and without one they return to being bottom feeders. I'm confident in our coaches and ownership. Cards coaches are mediocre and their ownership is awful

If they were smart, they'd trade Schaub to Washington for a 2nd and 3rd, and then sign Peyton. Washington gets a good QB and can still draft a top 1st round talent and Houston gets Peyton, who surely would love to get revenge on the Colts.

I'd prefer RGIII but if we can't get a deal done with the rams this would be a great option. Matt has at least 5 years left in him and the offense is either the same or close enough that picking it up won't be an issue.

There are way way too many conflicting reports about the whole Saints debacle. I'm pretty much going to let this stuff shake out before commenting further on it or Brees' contract.
That said, I'm pretty fascinated with the whole Manning thing too. where the hell will he end up and what kind of ridiculous contract will he sign?

We're not getting RGIII. No way the Browns can trot out Colt McCoy in a division with Rapist, Unibrow and the Red Rifle. If the Redskins gave less value and got RGIII than what the Browns had to offer, the Browns management would be lined up against the wall of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and shot. RGIII is a Brown.

The Bidwell's are up there when it comes to terrible owners.

That said, that mediocre team was a handful of plays away from winning a Superbowl. If Antrelle Rolle dicking around on the sideline doesn't block Larry Fitzgerald - definitely one of my favorite hilariously stupid moments in league history - on that Harrison return, who knows what happens?

Talking about the Rock and Roll HOF, Bruce Springsteen is the greatest artist of all time.

I'm on my knees praying that Cleveland gets Flynn which should make it a lock that we get RGIII. If not then every other likely QB scenario is disappointing. I haven't seen enough of Flynn or Tannenhill to hate them but I don't want to resort to either of them.

Lol, you haven't seem enough of Flynn (who has actually played NFL games) but are praying for RGIII who you necessarily have seen less of?

Good luck!
