You stated we couldn't win it with a HOF'er. We lost in the closing minute or two of the game. You couldn't even make it to the dance so don't try to compare. I'm guessing you looked at how we averaged for the whole season? Our defense didn't turn it on until the second half, spacing which game it was. Horton's scheme was too complex for them with no off season, he straight up stripped the book and did a vanilla D against Seattle in week 3 because of the difficulties. Late in the season, the guys got around 60-65 percent of Horton's book down and we started beasting. Still need to generate turnovers but we really limited TD's against us. They'll have the whole scheme down in time for this season, our D will be a top defense.

49er offense is limited by Smith. You'll only get worse when Gore wears down. Certainly we need to prove ourselves with Peyton, we don't know if he'll stay healthy and how quick he'll get back to playing like himself. He hasn't played in a season, after all. It's entirely possible that after this huge debacle, we get him and he gets smashed game 1 and is forced to retire. Anything can happen, including us making it to the SB. I'm just saying if Peyton is playing like Peyton, we have a very good chance. Need to get another WR to open Fitz more though.

I'm guessing you looked at how we averaged for the whole season? Gore wasn't healthy since the first giants game and didn't run well the rest of the year. kendall hunter will get more time and has shown he's pretty good.

and anyone can win a superbowl with any QB. it's possible. here's the bottom line: you DID NOT win a superbowl with a hall of fame qb. i don't care if you had the lead with 1 second left and lost on the last play or anything else. you didn't win it. we didn't win it. that's just the reality of the situation.

if peyton is peyton then he would turn any team into a threat but i don't think he turns any team into a legit superbowl contender. if he goes to the dolphins, cards or redskins they aren't suddenly favored to take it all. he hasn't played in a year and he's coming off major neck surgery. all those teams have major holes and are in divisions with teams that are better than they are.

we'll see. i enjoy a good rivalry and sweating it out at the end of the season so hopefully someone in the NFC west besides the niners can be halfway decent

Umm you kind of made my point for me. Gore seems to get injured easier if not more often these past few seasons and if he didn't perform as well afterwards, that caters towards the comment of him wearing down. I'm stating that Gore is on the way out and when he is, you take a hit. Hunter is not bad, but he's no Gore. I only commented on him and Smith. Smith with good coaching takes care of the ball and minimizes his mistakes, but that seems to be his ceiling. Don't think that's enough to win it all. It's been done before, a top defense carrying a shoddy QB, but it's just so highly improbable. Oh, and you desperately need a WR.

No argument here, a loss is a loss. I was just stating that we can win with a HOF QB, contrary to your comment.

Who said we'd be favored to take it? I just said he makes us contenders. Our defense will be good enough and unlike you, we have a top WR talent. Make some tweaks between FA and draft and we are good enough to make some noise. I'd honestly have far more expectations for the second year since it's too hard to predict what level Peyton can get at this season. Hence why I kept stating "If Peyton plays like Peyton".

I don't believe the Niners are as good as their last season record would suggest, it will be an interesting rivalry.

That threatened the integrity of the game.

filming defensive signals from the opposing sideline instead of your own? I dont feel that's as bad as this paying under the table bounty system. I'd think they'd at least be on par.

If the Steelers had the bounty system Goodell would have found a way to have the franchise removed from the league.

I heard or made up or whatever that Ray Lewis will rape anyone on defense in the shower if at least one Steeler is not hurt after a game. Of course since Ray Ray gets the best legal advice I think that threats of violence are not in violation of the salary cap.

And no FMT that service is not provided to fans. You have to be on the team or in a night club and say something offensive to Ray's entourage.

Child please, it's a few thousand dollars.
.

It's completely stupid that they brought in outside money, and it does make it much worse, but the bounty system itself is something that probably half the teams in the league have going, and the other half will set up this coming year.

It's nothing more than a motivational ploy. Judging by what Marshawn did to them, I'd say NO needed all the help they could get.

I hope the Packers start a bounty program for actually laying a hand on the QB sometime between the whistles. Maybe it will get Raji to try.

Only classy organizations supply their fans with a steady dose of rape. Wouldn't be rape unless you steal it, eh?

I AM NOW OFFICIALLY DOWN TO ONE NFL TEAM, NY GIANTS

Until Peyton has a team again, then I'll follow him to have my second team again.

I am SO psyched for this. Peyton has a chance to play infront of a much better team! Hopefully not NYJ though.

Having a second team does not register with me. Shouldn't you be happy that you're a Giants fans considering they just won the SB? No need for a second team.

I heard Jailhouse Ray does not take part as much due to old age and a bad hip from all the thrusting in the shower the Ravens do after each win. Pedo Joe just stands back and watches.

how is that making your point? i'm saying gore wasn't shit for more than half the year and we still got the #2 seed and got to the NFC championship game. the point is we don't NEED gore. harbaugh has a great system and you'll see that in the years to come.

and when have you won a superbowl with a HOF QB? you haven't, so my comment is actually correct. you never won a superbowl with a HOF QB. and if a top QB and a top WR are all it takes to win a championship then why were the lions one and done in the playoffs? your defense isn't great. it's an average defense. you can pull any excuse out of your ass that you want about "oh well they didn't know the system" but the only reason you looked decent near the end of the season is because you played some average/mediocre offenses: rams, cowboys, browns, bengals, seahawks, 49ers. and even as pedestrian as the niners offense was we still put up 21 a game on your great D.

all of this talk about last season is moot though. with the NFL today, teams can turn around in a year or turn to shit in a year. look at last years 49ers and last years colts. look at countless other examples. i don't think the cards are going to make any noise in the NFC west this year, but then again i'm biased!

Ah, I thought you were trying to make an excuse as to why your offense sucks so bad. We both know that your wins had nothing to do with your abysmal offense. Your D and ST carried you all the way. I noticed it a time or so on tv but it really caught my attention when I watched our second match up in person, how good your ST are at taking away the other team's field position. It puts other teams into a tough spot and makes things even easier for your D. ST is a big factor in why your D looks so good, not to take anything away from the talent you have on that end. Your offense is completely putrid, though. Champions of FG's. You had 19 pts in that game btw and you only scored the one lucky TD. I'll take holding teams to FG's all game any day.

You don't know what you're talking about when it comes to our D, you'll see next season. I'm actually excited to see how they stack up against the Packers and Patriots prolific offense. I can't say how much noise we'll make until after I see how draft and FA goes, after all, could have Manning at QB. I do know that our D will make some noise and I can't wait to see how much we'll progress. It's all good man, I expect the Niners to take a huge drop in production themselves! We'll see how the division goes.

our offense does what it takes to win the game. remember, and i can't stress this enough, this was an entirely new coaching staff and a new system for everyone involved. we weren't great, but putrid? lololol. sorry bro, but that is ridiculous. we started to open up the offense a bit more towards the end of the season but like i said a few days ago, when you have your #5 WR starting near seasons end it kind of limits what you can do. i'm not making an excuse for injuries or new system because i don't have to: we went 13-3 and got to the NFC championship game. no excuses needed.

and our special teams are awesome as is our defense. you say that as if it's a bad thing. maybe your team should concentrate on making a more well rounded team instead of throwing all your eggs in the peyton manning basket and hoping for the best.

and i'm glad you're expecting the niners to take a huge drop. it will be all the more delicious when we run away with the division again and you are left making excuses for the 49ers success!

p.s. i said the niners averaged 21 points against the cards last year. we scored 23 and 19 points in 2 games. add it up!

Squall & FMT your bickering makes me hope both of your irrelevant teams get beat out by the seachickens or G.Wil puts a bounty on your QB, oh wait you don't have one worth paying to see hurt. (call me the muth f'n pot)

I have a good excuse...grew up in North Carolina with no NFL team till 95. Most people pulled for the Skins and Braves, but I decided to be a Giants (Will Clark) and Niners fan. Still have these guys back home:

Typical Squall, as soon as something beneficial MAY happen for the Cards he comes in here and runs his mouth. As soon as they sink to the bottom he magically disappears until the offseason...

I don't expect another 13 win season next year but if we win less than 11 games I'm going to be pretty disappointed. With an upgraded WR core the 49ers can be scary for a long time.

Alex Smith lololol

It was fun watching the 49ers beat down the Saints last year. SF could be as physical a team as PITT and BAL over the next decade, or until Goodell outlaws tackling
I didn't follow the 49ers much until the end of the season, but that D is something else.

Nah our d ain't good. Special teams is the reason they looked good. Now the Arizona cardinals defense... Wow. THERE is a defense you can really set your watch to. They were a rag tag group of outsiders with no family and no home until one man, ray Horton, taught them to live AND love again. And now we are witnessing one of the greatest defenses in nfl history. Thank you bidwells for putting this magnificent defense together and possibly signing peyton manning so that I might witness perfection for once in my life!

The Niners special teams really was an unfair advantage combined with their bend but don't break philosophy on defense. I hope someone breaks their punters leg next year. Either that or Goodell mans up and makes it a penalty to punt the ball more than 45 yards.

I have no good feelings towards that team based on their treatment of the disabled on the field. What happened to fair play and being a gentleman?

I don't see the Cards as legitimate options for Manning. Kolb and Skelton got killed behind that line last year and I'm betting Manning isn't looking for that kind of punishment.
