Amazon DD Sales Thread

Cities XL is supposed to be a pretty shitty series, right? I spent about 4-5 hours redownloading a ton of custom-made stuff for SC4 last night and got it running (I know some folks have had issues with it on the 64-bit Windows 7 but it's working fine for me at least early on) but I wouldn't mind giving Cities XL a go at $10 if it has any redeeming qualities outside of its graphics..

I've heard it runs like a hog. Doesn't take advantage of a multi core.

It looks like Amazon has matched the Steam prices of all the Sims 3 games/expansions.

Hey Tony, do you know if the Sims games bought through Amazon will register on Origin?

Whether on not they do register through Origin, how is playing the game outside of Origin handled? Is there any DRM or anything like that? I've got 3 computers, could I install the game(s) on all three computers if I wanted? If I were to buy retail copies of any of the games at a later point in time, would they be compatible with the copy of the Sims 3 that I buy through Amazon?

I'm not 100% sure on compatibility across Steam, or if The Sims franchise activates through Origin. As for installing across multiple computers, here is our policy on activations:

How many times can I download my games or software?

You can download an unlimited number of times for personal use. To re-download, go to Your Games and Software Library through the "Your Digital Items" link at the top of the screen and click the download button.

Can I download and install to multiple computers?

For video games: Each game manufacturer has a different policy on how many installations are allowed with each product key. If you run out of installations for the product key you originally purchased from Amazon, please contact Customer Service and we will happily provide you with another key at no additional charge. You can install an unlimited number of times for personal use, however additional copies of the game for friends or family must be purchased separately.

Cheers,
Tony

You would register them via the Sims 3 site using your Origin login and then they get added to Origin from there is what happened for me. I tried registering my Sims 3 retail copy directly through Origin and it refered me to the Sims 3 site then I bought some of the expansions from Amazon today and added them on the Sims site and the showed up in Origin for me.

It is very confusing how you get free SimPoints so I'm going to explain it here. The base game and SOME expansions come with free SP to use in their shop. To get these, you have to register your game and then go to the my page > my account page on the Sims 3 website and there is an orange button that you click to redeem them. I got a link to them when I registered the game but it's a broken link. Their website is kind of jacked up tbh.

On the subject of free SimPoints here are a few expansions that give you free points (or not as noted), we might want to make a list, if anyone got any of the other expansions please quote the list and add to it as I found it hard to find solid information on this:

Sims 3 - YES
Sims 3: Ambitions - NO
Sims 3: World Adventure's - YES
All Stuff Packs - NO

Last but not least, you get free object packs for registering your game when you register on the Sims 3 site. Be sure to note the name of the pack as they are kind of hard to find but you can search for them if you have the name of the pack and download them for free. There is a dialogue that gives you a link when you register but obviously you only see that once.

Thanks for the reply Aselith. Can you tell me, is it possible to simply play the games without registering it through Origin? Can you just download from Amazon and play?

I have more faith in Amazon being around 5 years from now than I do in Origin still being here in 5 years. If I'm gonna spend this much $ on a game and expansions, I'd like to know for sure that I could still play them years from now.

Any thoughts on Divinity? Looks like the game is right up my alley but I'm wondering if there's anything particularly assy about it (broken balance, crappy combat, etc.)

I like it a lot. Combat isn't Skyrim polished, but it's better than say Morrowind? If that makes any sense. I like it a lot. Make sure it's the DKS version.

EDIT: Oh shit it is DKS and only $5.99? Everyone should buy this.

Shouldn't really matter to those really interested in the game, but the Amazon version isn't redeemable on Steam.

I'd rather save a few bucks and wait for the summer sales. Unfortunately, most games in other DD services often get stuck in backlog limbo...

I was tired of it by the end of the base game and never got around to Flames of Vengeance, but it is not a bad game and it has a lot of charm. Just a little janky and rough around the edges. I had major stuttering/framerate issues and I have a great PC.

You can play it without going through Origin to launch absolutely. Like I said you actually can't register it on Origin, it just seems like they add it for your convenience if you ever want to download again. Everything as far as registration is done through the Sims 3 website and I played for a long time without registering at all from my recollection. Any stuff you buy in the store is downloaded through the Sims 3 launcher.

However for like your free points and stuff, you must register on the Sims 3 website so I'd at least do that much as you can get a handful of extra stuff with that free $10 and also you get your free town and free expansion extras via that site.

Thanks again for the reply Aselith. I just bought the following in Amazon's store.

Sims 3: Base game
Sims 3: World Adventures
Sims 3: Late Night
Sims 3: Generations
Sims 3: Ambitions
Sims 3: Town Life Stuff
Sims 3: High End Loft Stuff

I'm gonna start downloading them now. I'll try and register them through thesims3.com after it's done downloading. I'll report which of the items that I bought give me free sim points from registering.

Thanks also for the head's up about the free object packs for registering. I'll keep an eye out for those.

Oh, damn. Could you elaborate on this? No way to keep a steady 60FPS? I'm on an i5 750 and GTX 460, would run at 1920x1080.

OK, I just registered all my Sims 3 stuff on Origin. Here's what I got as bonuses.

Sims 3: Base game
Sim points: 1000
Bonus Item: Town of Riverview (it's a whole new town. Easily the best bonus)

Sims 3: World Adventures
Sim points: 1000
Bonus Item: Explorer's Loot (15 items in total in Egyptian Chinese & Parisian styles. Not too bad)

Sims 3: Ambitions
Sim points: 0
Bonus Item: The Ultimate Career Bundle (Several new hairstyles and an odd assortment of bizarre items. For instance, there's a Griffin statue and there's also an living octopus that you can place in the river or sea. I don't really get this bundle, but the hairstyles are a welcome addition.)

Sims 3: Late Night
Sim points: 0
Bonus Item: The Red Carpet Collection (4 tacky show business themed items. Nothing too special, frankly)

Sims 3: Generations
Sim points: 0
Bonus Item: The Sims 3 Generations Registration Gifts (one boy and one girl's Sweater & an old fashioned looking rotary phone. Pretty freaking lame)

Sims 3: Town Life Stuff
Sim points: 0
Bonus Item: Nothing

Sims 3: High End Loft Stuff
Sim points: 0
Bonus Item: Nothing

Stuff packs aside, I believe that I've listed these items in the order that they were released. As you can see, they get progressively worse over time. I'm waiting for Pets & Showtime to drop in price, but I'm not looking to get anything special in bonus content when I register those items.

Still though, they were free items. So I can't really complain, I guess.

Hey Amazon rep, it would be awesome if you guys price matched the Deus Ex: HR deal going on at Gamersgate right now because I want to get it for that price but GamersGate has a godawful site which keeps timing out for me.

http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-DEHR/deus-ex-human-revolution-
http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-DD-DEHRML/deus-ex-human-revolution-the-missing-link

We actually don't match international sites for a battery of reasons :( sorry! I can tell you we'll be having a similar sale in a couple of weeks.

Do Alan Wake MLB2k12 and NBA2K12 activate on Steam?

Alan Wake does, NBA 2K12 does not.

Cheers,
Tony

Anyone wanna help me buy football manager? I can't purchase DD due to not being in US, so I'll just pay via paypal.

I enjoyed it for about 10-12 hours then I got to a point where I couldn't figure out what the hell I was supposed to do, even after checking gamefaqs, so I gave up.

Yes you can. Just use a fake US-based billing address, they won't try to match your credit card to the address. I've bought few games this way and had no issues whatsoever.

Edit: Preferably use a non-NY address to avoid taxes.

Ahh it's fine? XD

Nice, I'm down for The Settlers and Heritage of Kings. I might get Warafighter 2 but I'm not sure what I would get for my second game there maybe Call of Juarez.

Edit: Oh wait so there'll be more? Well I'll see what pops up for that second game then.

Looks like a good sale. I'm interested in the games in bold. I can't wait.

Please Tony add The Saboteur :D

is it a ubisoft sale?

It is an Ubisoft sale, so no Sabotuer just yet Mr. Belmont. I promise I'm working on it though!

I'd bite for Far Cry 2, but I'd like to see AC2 and Far Cry 1 as well. :)

AC2 definitely won't make it into the mix but Far Cry 1 just passed QA, the rub is that it has some issues with 64 bit systems, so if you are using one you'll need to do some patching, etc to get it work. If you're on a 32 to bit system you're money tough.

Any chance of seeing the Silent Hunter games if it is an Ubi sale?

I really wanted to get those into this sale, but our QA team has been slammed to the point where I've literally been working from home the past 2 days QAing all these games (now that they are DRM free we have to retest them) and I couldn't get the Silent Hunter games into the mix.

If this sale is successful though I'll be pitching a repeat with more titles to Ubisoft that will include the Silent Hunter games.

Looks like a good sale. I'm interested in the games in bold. I can't wait.

Glad you're pumped, check back on Sunday :)

Cheers,
Tony
