NFL Off-Season Thread: "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?"

Nawida was straight up decapitated, missed that earlier. Hysterical.

The only bad part about the Sanchez contract is that he's most likely locked in for one more year ('13).

Isn't the cap supposed to go up significantly once the new tv deals kick in? Sanchez deal doesn't look bad. Seems like the Jets will free up some cap space, and if the cap goes up the contract isn't as bad.

I like the move for the Redskins. They can still get good players from the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds but if they can only finish 6th at worst after the disaster they had this year then there was no way they were ever going to get a quarterback.

They have a chance to put pieces in place now by using that cap space to put offensive players in place.

Wall, RGIII, Strasburg, Harper...this town is getting some young studs :)

What the fuck are the Redskins thinking? Way to cripple your franchise for the next decade, Washington. You gave up wayy too much.
A lot will heavily depend on how Washington draft this year, but the next two seasons as well.

When Ernie Accorsi drafted Eli, he gave away a 3rd from that same draft, next season's 1st and the 5th round picks. In the 2004 draft along with Eli, he was still able to get Pro Bowl guard Chris Snee, and Gibril Wilson was a starter for a couple seasons. In the 2005 draft where they only had four picks, they were able to get CB Corey Webster, DE Justin Tuck, and HB Brandon Jacobs.

If Danny and Shanahan can pull off picks like that, they'll be fine. They have gotten good ones out of Orakpo and Kerrigan, but they'll need more players who can shine or at least be quality depth.

Looks like plans are changing, Peyton was supposed to go to AZ today. ESPN is now saying he has no plans to go there now. The longer they keep him in Denver, the closer we are to signing him.

Those saying its too much and we got raped have to consider that the draft values are completely changed with the new cba. Competition and need certainly drove the price up but so did the fact that first rounders get paid so much less now.

Anyways now they will have something to sell vincent jackson with

When the Giants traded for Eli i thought they gave up too much, this trade is ridiculous.....

Another thing to take into account is that the Rams won't be feeling nearly as good about this deal if Bradford turns out to be a bust.

I'm not the biggest Bram Sadford fan, but he showed enough his rookie season and had such terrible help last year that I think that's pretty unlikely. He might not be a superstar, but he'll be pretty solid IMO.

Now it's up to the Rams FO to get him some help with those picks.

Certain demographics will prevent RG3 from going to Indy, but playing for the D.C. area is a perfect fit for Griffin , since it's also known as, 'Chocolate City'.

Haha, I don't care if RG3 is the greatest ever, Redskins got robbed. Poor RG3 going to such a shit organization. I hope he fucking shits on this "obedient black kid that white people love" bullshit role by either demanding a trade or a name change for that racist backwards ass organization. I really like RG3 and I think he's going to lose his career there.

So I guess pretty much anything and everything is racism, huh?

Even if he turns out to be a bust, they have the ability to draft a new one or trade picks for a guy or move up. It gives them plenty of flexibility.

Personally, I'm indifferent to the trade. I'm happy that it basically guarantees Kalil for the Vikes; I was worried a trade wouldn't come together and the Rams would be forced to take him at the last second. On the other hand, if that were to happen I'd love for the Vikes draft RGIII at #3 and put both him and Ponder on the trading block.

The RG3 hype is getting out of control. He has a chance to be excellent, but I don't think people realize how bad the defenses he played against last year really were.

An NFL defense with time to study his tendencies will do just fine. Having a Cam-type season with highs and lows would be quite the statement for him.

Then again, I'm probably biased since my main memories of him went something like this:

Yeah the skins gave up alot but theyre counting last years draft class to improve on their past showing. I believe 11 of the 12 players drafted saw playing time on actual offense and defense.

He'll do fine. Haven't seen a good Shannahan bootleg since Plummer, I'm sure Griffin will make it shine once again.

Saw an interview with Brandon Lloyd, looks like a nice guy, wouldn't mind seeing him in NE.

But it makes too much sense at the moment, so I'm not sure if it will happen.

If we had given up three firsts the rebuild would just have taken longer. I like the fact that it is out of our hands now. The fans can't get mad at H&H for not getting RG3 because that price is just enormous.

Plus, we now get to see Heckert wheel and deal in the draft. He could quite easily trade down now, perhaps even with the Rams at #6, for more picks. Giving Heckert more picks is always a good thing and as you say, we could always flip them over to next year and make a run at Barkley.

Oh I definitely agree. Just felt bummed out on missing out on him is all.

In the end I know this is the right way for us to go. RGIII would have been nice but then I'd be hating life again seeing him do everything he can to force our inept WRs to catch a ball or get open.

I do expect Heckert to trade our #4 and move down. Doesn't seem like there is anyone really there at #4 that he might die for. Maybe Claiborne?

I don't see how we would take Blackmon or Richardson with the #4.

The Skins swap this years first. So they're only giving up 2 first rounders. The 2nd in this years draft kinda chaffs my ass a bit but oh well. According to the draft chart, the Skins only gave up on additional pick. IF things go according to plan, they plan on that pick being a low first rounder.

This was a bold trade. You can't please everyone. I'm glad they did it. They're 40M under the cap, they can improve via FA which they did a phenomenal job in last year. They also showed a willingness in last years draft to move up and down the boards, more picks can/most likely will be acquired.

They gonna be in cap hell again next year, Eli restructured and saves us $6.75m, but his cap number will go to $20mil next season.....

Yeah no way kiwi and Osi will be able to be resigned next year, Canty and Rolle seem like prime cut targets next year. After this year the defense is being stripped.

I am really surprised that the Browns didn't do whatever it took to get RG3. They could have added some much needed star power and given fans a reason to be hopeful.

It's too bad the Lions can't afford to do anything this offseason by resign our own players and get like one veteran linebacker maybe.

Stupid pre-CBA NFL rookie contracts. >:(

RG3 coming to the NFC Beast....the pass rush he will be facing from Giants, Eagles, and Cowboys could leave this kid scarred for life lol j/k, but good luck to him..

I wish they did it. If it was ever possible for the Walrus to push the Browns even further into oblivion, that trade would have done it.

So which QBs will be on the market for FA?

Flynn obviously, and his asking price could go through the ceiling depending on where Manning ends up.

Will Miami release Henne? I think only if Peyton signs in Miami. AZ would likely need to release Kolb to make enough cap space to fit Manning into their plans. What about Jason Campbell? Do the Raiders part ways with him now that they have Palmer?

If Peyton goes to Denver, then seriously, is Flynn the only guy (besides maybe Campbell) on the market? Who takes a run at him? Cleveland and Miami? I would suspect if AZ loses out on the Peyton sweepstakes that they're gonna stick with Kololb.

I think at some point, these teams just drop out of the race and wait for next year if they feel they're paying too high of a price. We saw this last year when the Redskins and other teams went into the season with a whole lot of nothing.
