Prope's free games are crap, except flick pig. I guess the coin tossing one is innofensive too. But the ski jump thing, woah, all kinds of bad, like a sloppy attempt to recreate the Wii Fit ski jumping, which wouldn't be bad, but it's just so unpolished and plain, not to mention the choppy frame rate on an iPad2, though that's the least of its problems. Flick Pig is actually involving and fun.

The coin one's crack, actually. Much like that coin-slot RPG was crack.

Yeah you're stuck with it until you shell out for the new version. I'm just glad they finally appear to be doing universal "HD" versions now.
That really sucks. It's a wonder why they don't have the "HD"ness available as IAP or something for the people who bought the existing one (given that majority of people who would've bought it would've had higher-res screens anyway). Oh well :(

IAP content downloads aren't hosted by Apple or something, so it'd either cost Cave more hosting fees or they'd have to make the apps on the store themselves bigger containing everything (and their stuff tends to be decently big already).

As for high res screens it's a bit of a weird situation. The game came out in 2010 when the first iPad, iPhone 4, and 4th gen iPod touch were out, and only one* of those can run the HD versions. I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of sales were back around launch so I guess it's kind of a business balancing act now. Update the old app and bump the size when a chunk of your original buyers may not even be able to take advantage (if they haven't upgraded devices), or just release a new version with some more hoopla and make more money (keep in mind how much of a niche their games are).

*...of course the one (iPhone 4) was definitely the majority of those devices sold, although who knows their sales split among the devices.

So... if you bought the regular one on the 4S you're stuck with the SD version? Damn, that's a bit crap.

Cave has never really been in the business of saving us money, I kind of expected it to work like that. I enjoy Espgluda II HD enough to make this purchase worth it.

Want to know too, I commented negatively on its 3d graphics but I'm still interested...

Didn't bamihap promise you a free copy?

It's a good game, people need to try it out.

EDIT: the graphics are actually nice in motion. The kids have a lot of personality and the lighting is lovely. the 2D art is fantastic as well. It does have a little bit of N64-era jank to it, but it's also charming too. Anyone who likes Battleheart should dig this.

Do we have any idea what resolution games like Dungeons will run on the new iPad? One of the video demos on the site shows IBII and kind of zooms in on it, is this evidence that it will be getting a retina update? If Vita can barely run some games at its native res, how will iPad?

Hmmm, looking forward to reports on how DDP HD will run on the iPhone 4. They must have done a lot of optimization because even the normal blurry low-res DDP Resurrection (which I love) certainly does not run at a steady high framerate on the iPhone 4.

Awesome thread for iPad games here, will be going back when I get my new iPad next week. Is there a thread dedicated to non gaming apps here? Can't find anything using search or maybe I'm just blind.

I'm still sore that the more expensive iPad version of Plants Vs. Zombies hasn't been updated with any of the newer iPhone content. Just rubs me the wrong way when devs do that.

Meh, it's PopCap. We probably won't see iPad 3 resolutions out of them for another 18 months.

Lightopus is really damn good btw. 148apps review of it: www.148apps.com/reviews/lightopus-review/

It's a really creative take on the twin stick shooter (though it's technically not a shooter, this one), it's very well executed and technically pretty impressive.

It's a Cave game. It doesn't keep a steady framerate by design.

Back it up to iCloud, log in on your Apple ID on the New iPad and it can download everything back.

Wipe it clean through Settings > General > Restore

Does this preserve application data and IAPs? I remember reading on this thread iCloud is a bit iffy on that.

Excuse the ignorance, but has Apple shown (via video) what apps/games are going to look like on the new iPad if they haven't been re-done to utilize the retina screen?

*edit* My bad. Just saw the link above to the new iPad OT. Heading there.

It is going to depend on individual apps. We have gone through most of our catalogue and a couple of them won't even be using the optimal assets they could/should be. Updates to resolve are already in the works.

Expect a bunch of updates in the coming months as people fix that sort of stuff up, much less implement full res assets.

I hope my drawing warmed your heart. :-p

This game really needs an update, and soon. I've already seen a bunch of the same words multiple times, especially Florida. I'm addicted to the game, but enough of the repeat words already. That isn't very good considering I just got the game yesterday.

I've considered using that aspect of the game to do drawings - start drawing something, then trash it to continue it or something, and see if people catch on to it.

For "survivor" I'd do the logo for the show, but yeah, some seem close to impossible.

The sometimes the hard choice is so easy. I just had the word "teardrop" show up as hard, and that's about one of the easiest ones you could get.

So how do the points work?

There are 3 words to choose from. an Easy one, and Medium one and a Hard one. you and your friend will get 1, 2 or 3 points respectively if the puzzle is guessed correctly. You can then use those points to unlock more sets of colors-that may seem like nothing, but sometimes you really need different shades of green! Like when I had to draw a frog on a lilypad for example...

So you work with the person trying to guess?

Yes to both, iCloud backups contain all your custom settings including save games. IAPs are tied to your Apple ID and are independent from the backup, it differs from game to game how restoring IAPs work, either they have a "restore purchases" button or you "re-purchase" the IAPs at which point the system will check your Apple ID and see you've already bought them and unlock them for you.

I watched the keynote yesterday, from what the guy said it sounded like it was running at full resolution.
Haha. Seriously though... Really curious about how the HD version will run on iPhone 4...
Well I'll find out next week and post about it as soon as it goes up...assuming I have the space to install it. Hopefully the music is high quality, seems like they've been skimping on that.

I used to do something like that for some of the other drawing games before which had time limits (haven't tried Draw Something yet). Like for "gun" I'd draw a few buildings, make one of them a bank, then draw like a bank robber, police, and them shooting at each other, and lastly an arrow pointing to a gun.

Is there any DUNE like games available ?
I like that type of game when you build a base, create small army with tiny little soldiers then seek out and destroy the other base.

Is there any game like that available?

Mass Effect: Infiltrator is surprisingly solid. Loads more fun once you realize stealth is a de-aggro/escape tool, not an offensive one.

Not sure if you guys are familiar with this game or not, but Greedy Bankers vs The World is currently free for iPad:

The developer showed off the game at Eurogamer Expo last year and it was easily one of the best things I played there. The multiplayer experience is a blast with two people on the same iPad simultaneously. Grab it now, you won't regret it!

Seems great, thanks.

If people are looking for turn based strategy:

Uniwar: very similar to the old battle isle games but not quite the depth of length. Still worth playing
Wesnoth: Can't beat the value. Presentation is a little cluttered for me, but certainly worth it.
Mecho Wars: Advance wars clone that made me wish I was playing advance wars. Still good considering the limited options.
Highborn: Seemed pretty decent, but didn't invest as it looks like it will get very pricy with the cost of entry and IAP. Might pick it up on sale one day.

If anybody else has some recommendations, would love to hear them.

Yeah it's pretty fun, the iPhone version is free right now too.
