Even if she didnt mean to I think Lorie caused that final scene. This might sound sexist but I think women tend to lead men on, and not in a premeditated away. I just think when a guy likes a girl its easy for the guy to jump to conclusions. Especially in this situation and especially with Shane in his condition.

No, no. The writers totally wanted you to feel the way you did about Shane. Hell, they even put him on the definite right side of a situation in this episode, when he had to almost convince Rick that dealing with Carl was his first priority as a father.

Shane wasn't a bad person. He was a fucked-up person in a fucked-up situation. I think it's clear the writers wanted the audience to wrestle with their feelings about both Rick--a loyal, upstanding, moral guy who sometimes puts himself and others in unnecessary danger due to his moral principles--and Shane--a selfish, narcissistic man who nevertheless loved Rick and who often made the right call for the wrong reasons.

I don't think we were intended to hate Shane, but rather pity him. The characters said exactly what you are saying here. I mean, didn't Andrea explicitly say something like, "It's not that you are wrong, it's that you come across as a crazy dude"

Shane was not presented as a villain IMO, but something more interesting. I don't think that was an accident.

By the way, at this rate, T-Dog is going to outlive everyone.

Don't forget the other kid Shane killed turning. Or the cops they found a few eps back.

Curious to see how they address it...
 
Shane was definitely a villain. Just because he sounded logical a few times doesn't excuse his psychotic tendencies. Tragic indeed, but no hero in the end.

Shane doing that ended up saving Ricks life.

Shane keeps that secret about Carl (and the gun) to himself, no one saves Rick from walker Shane.

Remebar when Jenner told Rick a secret? People are speculating that Shane being bitten by a walker was the secret.

No, people are speculating the secret was,
"Everyone in your group is already infected. When they die they will become walkers even if the zombies don't get them."

you didn't see it coming? As cynical as I am, it was time. Either this episode or the next, shane had to be offed like dale.

also, for the sudden zombification....well in my theory, I think that the blades/knifes they've used so far on zombies carries the infection/contagion on them which most likely explains why shane turned quickly when Rick fatally stabbed shane

It's a carryover from the comic. You don't have to be bitten, you just have to die. That's when Rick realizes there is a real lack of long term hope.

This brings up another good point, which just adds another notch to the awesome direction of the episode.

But Carl would've just said something otherwise if he didn't have the pistol on him, I would think.

Excellent episode. I also think that even before Randall and Shane made it obvious to the characters on the show, we as the audience had enough to put it together. The whole knife thing and the cops without bites. It's also a much more sustainable, believable way of creating this kind of world when you think about it.
 
Oh, I didn't even think about the cop zombies from the last few episodes. Thanks for the explanation guys. With Randall, I just assumed a zombie got to him in the woods later on after he was killed by Shane.
 
Ok so this is for the people that never got it, Shane broke the guys neck, murdered him. He turned into a Zombie. Shane was murdered, he turned into a Zombie too.

So everyone is already infected, death is just another trigger that turns you into a zombie.

also, prolly those cuffs that scraped that prisoner guy had some infection strain idk..kinda seems the contagion is strong enough to revitalize a corpse without much help from a bite/scratch/etc from a zombie

Without getting that pep-talk from his dad after Shane told Rick, I doubt Carl would have acted the way he did the rest of the episode (watching from the farm window, presumably racing out of the house when he heard the gunshot).

He'd have done something stupid like remind everyone that heaven still doesn't exist and chuck more rocks at that zombie armada.

I wouldn't say another, but really the only trigger. People attacked by zombies die from the wounds alone and then the infection reanimates them. I don't know if the reason they died makes any difference other than being bitten ensures being infected if they weren't already.
 
I really think people should restrain themselves from using comic knowledge to explain this. It might not be the same, and people deserve the right to have these hilarious conversations trying to sort it out.

Yeah it's not fair to throw it in there willingly or not. Maybe speculating if you've read the comics isn't a good idea.
 
Weren't they all paranoid about zombie guts in the first season, then they quickly dropped that?

They aren't going to go back to washing everything like a hypochondriac.

Wow. Great analysis. Didn't even think of it like this.

He probably spotted Shane and Rick on the hillside from house when he was scanning the area with the binoculars and that's how he was there already just moments after Rick took out Shane.

Stevie Wonder can see where this is going, The Two cops wihout bites a few episodes ago, Randell and now Shane. You don't have to read the comics to figure this out.They are hitting you over the head with hints.

Here's something to add. Early in the 2nd season, Darryl and Andrea run into a tent. Outside the tent, is a guy who hung himself. That should have killed him. He probably turned from that, even if his legs were chewed on (post hanging). So, I think that's more foreshadowing the twist.
 
Kind of made me sad that Rick held Shane's hand and touched his face briefly as he died.

Shane fucking sucked, but Rick loved his buddy. :(
