The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |Thread4| NOT Doomed

You just want a free copy, let's be real.
That part was a joke guys (I guess)...

Ravensword 2 looks nice enough, kinda like a what if Gothic II had more modern shaders for normal mapping and stuff and some higher polycounts. I'd be more worried about it being an actually good game (being cheap & semi portable won't excuse it if it's a crappy RPG with crappy controls, a crappy world, crappy quests and story, crappy length, etc, in my book). Many of the hyped visually impressive games that try to ape console titles end up not holding up well at all, hopefully this is different.

I played a bit of Final Fury Pro since it was free, it's got the first virtual analog stick I found comfortable to use (probably because the game is kinda slower paced for its style, both enemy and character movement are modest). I doubt I'd handle two of them though, so it's just as well the game doesn't utilise a twin stick setup I guess. It seems like it will grow super grindy or require IAPs though, as you seemingly can't replay previous waves and failing one doesn't give you much money at all.

Was really getting in to adventure bar, but clicked out of the app and opened another to check something. When going back to the game all progress since last save was lost. So i just deleted the game.

Wait, Starbucks gives stuff away free with drinks? How do we stay updated on what they are giving out?

Yeah they give out free songs/apps every week :P and... twitter... I don't actually know if they post it themselves. Just saw the tweet and thought I'd share. If I get to a Starbucks (and there are still codes... they get taken so fast) i'll make sure to grab a few and give them to GAF - they'll probably be for the Canadian store though.

Is there a minimum amount you have to spend to get a free code? Where do they put them? Do you have to ask for them?

They're usually right in front of the counter (not behind the counter, but clearly in the visible area for the barista), in a little shelf with a sign that says "Starbucks' App/Song of the week, grab a card!" or so. I believe you can buy whatever you want and then just grab one (or two -cough-), not sure if you can also get it when not buying anything... I'm tempted to believe that you can and that it's just frowned upon. But no, you don't have to ask for them, they're usually really just on the counter where you order stuff and you just grab one when you order if you want.

wtf, no multitasking?

I have it bought, but I haven't started it yet. Vita, ME3, etc. ahhhhhhhhh

Sorry to post about this again but the more I read about this the more confused I get. I maintain two Apple IDs (one for US content and one for JP content) but as far as I know I only have iCloud configured on the US account. What is the exact procedure I should follow for completely disassociating myself from my current iPad, and restoring all my app data from both accounts to a new iPad?

While just one Apple ID is used as the main iCloud account and backup 'deposit'. iCloud makes a backup of your entire device irregardless of how many Apple ID regions have been used to purchase content on it. You can see what apps are backed up within the iCloud settings if you're curious.

During the restore process it will ask you to sign into your secondary Apple ID as well when it starts re-downloading the apps (as well as for all the things you use the IDs for, mail etc. etc.) I personally had about 10 separate sign in prompts for various accounts and settings when I restored to my 4S back when it launched.

Once all done, after the downloads you should have all your apps and saves intact like normal. IAPs still remain "un-bought" though in most cases (app specific). Restore those by "re-buying" within the apps or use their restore purchases option should they have any.

Also, keep your original device and backup during the process should anything go wrong so you can easily do it again.

I have an ipod touch. Maybe the lack of RAM is the reason. Have experienced the same on other apps. But I would've really appreciate an autosave function.

Really? I think it looks pretty good. Though I have to see it in motion to be sure.

But I wouldn't mind a Skyrim like RPG with stylised graphics.

I'm not a fan of the generic fantasy sandbox kinda game (really didn't like Ravensword and Aralon) but I gotta say this game looks good, bro. I don't see what you're talking about. It doesn't fully look current-gen console-like but it looks better than a PS2 games of that type that were considered good-looking at the time. So it looks maybe a tiny bit dated by non-mobile standards... But still well done artistically and technically for this type of game.

I mean, yeah, it looks OK... it has textures and polys up the wazoo and all that, but it's just kind of ugly too. The graphical style is bland, all those greens kind of blend in together and look too busy. Ironically the texture detail on things like leaves is maybe too high and it just looks a mess of detail.

I think that saying it looks good for a last gen game is missing the point a little. It's 2012, design sensibilities have moved on a little, you just can't look at many PS2 era games and say they look 'good' any more. But I think with some effort and artistic talent you can definitely make something that looks good and runs well on the hardware. But doing that means you shouldn't be trying to ape a modern fantasy game with all the texture trappings like that. Because it just ends up looking like a weak version of what the big boys are doing.

But really, organic environments like that are just really hard to get right. And I don't think there's any way around it until a few gens down the road when the hardware is beefed up a bit.

You just want a free copy, let's be real.

Well yeah, there is always that. This game looks like shit, give it to me. :P

Thanks. Unfortunately, the timing of my iPad sale ended up being that this iPad will be out of my hands the day before the new one arrives. Just going to have to trust the backup and restore features work the first time.

Is there a specific procedure to follow to completely disassociate myself with this iPad? Is just performing a factory reset enough or is there something else I need to do first?

So Adventure Bar Story seems real good so far, but I have three questions. Mark as spoiler if you must...

1) Is there some sort of time limit I need to be watching out for? I notice I open the bar at the end of the day, so I'm worried I might run out of time to accomplish all the game offers.

2) Is there a healing spell or a good way to farm healing items? My first trip into the "dungeon" during Day 1 ended prematurely because I was out of healing items.

3) I keep seeing that I've unlocked "recipe hints". What are these and where do I find them?

1. Unsure, I don't think so though.
2. Your main character will get a healing spell soon, that should help things immensely.
3. When you look at the recipe list, there are some recipes that list only some ingredients and the rest show up as "??????" those listed ingredients are the hints.

Quick and to the point. Thanks!

My long-dormant completionist gene is kicking in on Adventure Bar. I spent an hour last night just figuring out new recipes. I'm at 40% now.

I also opened up a new area above the waterfall. More fish. Much harder enemies. I have all lvl 20 characters, but still could only make it halfway through the area before I had to pull out.

Question about Dodonpachi Resurrection HD: Is that universal app? Like Espgaladua II HD for iPad? Also will it be out Wednesday night in the US like most releases or the following day?

In theory you don't even have to buy anything. They just sit up next to the register. They've started giving away iBooks and the occasional TV episode as well as apps/games. I don't think every Starbucks has them (may be related to if its a franchise store versus a company store) but many do.

Power of Coin is wicked addicting.

I screwed up in the start, didn't realize what prizes did and I kept selling them for coins.. d'oh.. what a waste of time doing that was!!!

pikpok monsters or whatever its called is okay. for a dollar. not more.

mechnically, its fairly simple. Slide what you need to one end, slide it to where you need it to go.

I recommend everyone check out Hookshot Inc. It's a site focusing on downloadable games costing less than fifteen dollars. The iPhone-centric writing is way better than what anyone else is doing (I find the coverage on sites such as Touch Arcade and Slide to Play overenthusiastic and generally very poorly written), and with high-profile writers such as Simon Parkin and Christian Donlan, they appear to be positioning themselves as the Rock, Paper, Shotgun of downloadables.

I got a free song, don't see app cards.

Factory reset should do it. If you're paranoid about the backup, have an up-to-date iTunes/computer backup as well just in case.

Got an email that League of Evil is a buck. How long does it take to play through?

Grab it. It rocks. And it has lotsa content. Definitely will keep you busy for a while and it's definitely up there among the few games that made me put the rest of my backlog aside to focus on finishing it first.

I downloaded the Assassin's Creed... card game? I haven't tried it yet. Is it worth playing? A card game on iOS sounds like it could be a lot of fun. I loved Metal Gear Acid and Cardfighter's Clash. Is this anything comparable to those ?

Yeah, it'll be a third person shooter from the hit team that bought you Dead Space and Mass Effect iOS! :P

I played a bunch of Kids vs Goblins at lunchtime, that game is actually really fun. Every time I play I learn new tricks and wrinkles to the formula and I feel I'm getting halfway competent at the game. But when it gets hard damn is it hard. Right now I'm finding I need to strike a balance between healing and support. Haste is super useful and combining it with the slowdown effect that the blue class can give is pretty brutal. It's cool, and a lot deeper than it appears at first glance. I've maybe spent about 3 hours on it so far and I still feel like a novice.
I'm So glad you like it. You seem to really get what this game is about.

You might now know this but the game tracks everything a player does. We use that data to fix problems with the gameplay. We just got a result of someone playing an endless level for more than an hour! He found a spell combination that was perfect for that set of enemies. He earned more than 6000 stones :D

I thought you can hide stuff from your history, is there a different page that shows hidden stuff?

If so, where is it, I'm missing some I'd like to re-enable to remember I actually owned them...

From the Japanese press release (...through google translator) it sounded like it'd be universal, albeit for the 512MB RAM devices only (iPad 2/new, iPhone 4/4S). Espgaluda II HD currently isn't universal (iPad 2 only) but the PR made it sound like it'd be getting updated to universal cause it mentioned iPhone 4/4S in there in the blurb about it.

And I think it said DDP:R HD would be coming on the 16th, presumably the Espgaluda II HD update too.
