NFL Off-Season Thread: "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?"

They asked Jerry what was the biggest difference between the Giants "then" (i.e. when everyone wanted Coughlin fired) and now (on their way to the NFCC) was Eli and that he is playing at a high level. He then went on to state that the defense also upped their game, while Romo was playing at a high level and his defense didn't help him any as Eli's did.

Eli was playing at a high level most of the season. Their biggest change was the D Line and the running backs playing better.

Why the hell was this bull crap so important to Roger, the owners, and the NFLPA to collude like this just to hurt the Cowboys and Redskins?

It's all John Mara, the owner of the Giants:

John: Hey Rog, mind doing me a favor?

Goodell: Sure bud, anything for you? Hey you need an extra home game AGAIN this year?

John: Oh yeah, like in 2005 when you conveniently rescheduled the Saints to play a "Home Game" in the Meadowlands because of Katrina wink, wink

Goodell: Yeah, or how about in 2007 when I rescheduled your game in Miami to be played in London instead so that you only had to play seven games in a hostile stadium and you were the last team in the playoffs and conveniently won the Superbowl, lol, that was a good one

John: What about this year when we played nine games in New Meadowlands AGAIN because we were "hosted" by the Jets and then won the Superbowl again!!!

Goodell: Yeah, or how about when I picked you guys to host the Superbowl even though you play in an outdoor stadium and have shitty weather

John: No, nothing like that, remember a few years ago when we all agreed illegally not to put all our cap money into a year where there was no limit under the existing rules?

G: How could I forget?

J: Well, Dan and Jerry didn't go along with our illegal scheme and actually followed the rules in place at the time.

G: I see, well lets get all the owners and players together and vote on this by the rules set forth by the current CBA, I'm sure you can get 24 owners and a vote of the players to agree

J: Nah, why even bother, just hit them with a penalty, $10mil for the Cowboys and $36 mil for the 'Skins

G: What about the Bears?

J: Who gives a shit about the Bears, I don't have to play them twice a year

G: LOL, good one, want to 69?

J: But of course

The Miami Dolphins 3rd Round picks since 2000.

John Jerry
Patrick Turner
Kendall Langford
Lorenzo Booker
Derek Hagan
Lamar Gordon
Channing Crowder
Wade Smith
Taylor Whitley
Seth McKinney
Travis Minor
Morlon Greenwood
Ben Kelly

Anybody able find 2 players worth 1 Brandon Marshall? Cause I sure as hell can't!

No it's more like:

Officer: joe there's no speed limit on this private road we own but I'm telling you right now don't go over 50 or I'm going to give you a ticket. I'm going to tell you this 5 more times: don't do it or there will be consequences.

Joe: lulz sure bro!

How can a police officer give out a ticket on a private road?

There's not enough salt in this post. Here's some more...

I only heard th part about Eli upping his game, so he wasnt basing Romo but instead their D. I still think Jerry is the kind of guy that would dump him if he could get someone better but I guess we will never know.

I thought so at one point but after finding out Jerry had all intentions of keeping T.O. as a Cowboy until Romo went into that office, I've realized Jerry will do anything for Romo and Jason AIRett..

Don't tell him to stop! These Sky Chief posts are some of my favorite in NFL GAF. I want him to dig deeper into this conspiracy and unearth the truth!

JESUS CHRIST NOBODY GIVES A SHIT

Speak for yourself buddy, I give plenty of of fucks about this.

It's complete and utter BS what the league did and then claim that the team is getting punished due to "competitive advantage", that is such a joke. Tampa went under the previous cap floor to gain a competitive advantage and look at the free agent signing bonanza they are going through right now. The Skins and Cowboys did not break any written rules, written rule is uncapped year 2010 but instead we get punished for something unwritten and illegal in a federal court.

If it was such an unwritten rule, how come only 2-3 teams really took advantage of it?

4 teams actually, if you can find out what specific rules these teams broke that no other team did then be my guest and share. Plenty of teams took advantage of the uncapped year in various ways but only these 4 teams got dinged. If nothing was written on what you could or couldn't do in a uncapped year then how are you going to get punished. The Pats got less of a punishment for actually cheating than the Skins got.

Never heard of Fanene, and his last highlight on nfl.com is from 2009. Is he any good? Or just another castoff that will make me shit my pants whenever we're on D against a real team?

Man, last year was such a stupid season. Pats weren't supposed to get this far, but it still stings.

I'm not gonna read through NFL cap details, just seems if it wasn't against the rules it'd be an obvious thing for a lot of teams to have done that season. Why weren't they doing it? What exactly were they doing instead that you think is comparable to this?

the NFL told them not to do it and they still did it. the NFL isn't fair but i didn't see you up in arms when the niners got fucked out of draft picks for "tampering" (which every team does). deal with your punishment!

I see people keep saying that the redskins contracts were approved by the NFL, but they existed prior to the uncapped year. Did the NFL actually approve the renegotiated contracts? I'm still not clear on that.

Yeah because I was around back then. Uncapped Year was in a legal document, some guys telling you the opposite was not, simple enough. It's fine Skins will get it back in the end after Snyder and Jerry lawyer up. On a side note the worst possible thing is the timing of it, really one day before FA period begins. That is just so fucking shady especially if we would of gotten Manning prior to this. Skins may have known before hand about the cap hit but nothing has been reported to support this.

Every contract gets approved by the NFL.

cool, link of said written rule?

why would i have access to an internal NFL document? i'm just going based off of what was reported.... just like you are! every team was told not to do this, the redskins and cowboys apparently ignored that and did it anyways, so they get punished. no one really knows all of the details of the investigation, not you, not me, not mike florio but i'm sure over time the details will come out.

The Washington Redskins have received no written documentation from the NFL concerning adjustments to the team salary cap in 2012 as reported in various media outlets. Every contract entered into by the club during the applicable periods complied with the 2010 and 2011 collective bargaining agreements and, in fact, were approved by the NFL commissioner’s office.

Shady indeed.

Redskins Statement
“Every contract entered into by the club during the applicable periods complied with the 2010 and 2011 collective bargaining agreements and, in fact, were approved by the NFL commissioner’s office. We look forward to free agency, the draft and the coming football season.”

From PFT:
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the teams were told “at least six times” during ownership-level meetings that there would be “serious consequences” for any team that used the uncapped year as an occasion to dump salaries.

CBA is a written document that the Skins followed, the other is a verbal warning which they didn't, which is more legally binding?

Bennett to the Gnats seems like a great pick up on the cheap. I haven't really seen Bennett play in a long time but wasn't he pretty good?

oh shit well if the redskins own statement says they complied then i believe it! for shame NFL... for shhhaaaammmeee!!!

Neither are legally binding since the NFL makes it's own laws. Redskins know the league makes their owns laws as they signed the document that said their franchise won't sue the league ever. Why wouldn't you listen to those they agreed to give this power to when they tell you 6 times to specifically not do something.
