Still it was inevitable that the site would get sold/partner up at some point. They were probably bleeding money.

Imagine what last week must have been like for him. This deal closing, GDC, moving offices, his dad's in the hospital...

It would be logical to do one site, but I think they wanted to go into this together at the time, especially since they were all working in one office and seemed to be friends and stuff.

The cynic in me isn't letting go of my pessimism towards this, even if there are some things to be optimistic about.

Well, it is hard to be optimistic when the last major buyout (the 1UP <--> UGO thing) turned out to be a complete disaster all around.

But I guess I'm hopeful in that they seem to be really good friends. So I think if this GB thing goes downhill, they'll make it work somehow. Didn't a lot of them leave Gamespot together just to stay together?
This group (the core GB guys I mean) seems less likely to split up than the 1UP group was. But I'm not a huge follower, so I don't really know for sure.

Having a bigger budget is a great thing. But people like to be doomsayers.

Problem is that CBSi won't just give them money because they are being nice. To have a bigger budget they must make them money. Short term this will probably not mean anything since I guess they will give them some time but if they will lose money as it seemed like Whiskey was doing then they will probably have even less budget and less content.

Every week I take a peek at the Bombcast thread to see if anybody is leaving or if the site is shutting down. I really enjoy it and ashamedly breathe a sigh of relief when I inevitably see it's still status quo.

This isn't unexpected and it's the best possible solution. WM had to cover salaries for all of those sites (not to mention expenses, fixed costs, rent, travel budgets, hosting etc.)-how do people think that happens? Subscriber numbers were probably keeping them afloat.

At least we'll have a few more months of good Podcast banter, so congrats to them. If it goes longer then that then good news!

Can't really say it's surprising, like those pictures show only GB and Comic Vine really had viewers and honestly GB is a pretty niche site all things considered (which is why everyone, myself included, loves them). I've honestly been expecting something like this to happen for a long time.

I think Tested is coming out of this on top though, that video on their site blew my mind. So excited to see what comes out of it!

Davison being involved is good. He seems to get things moving at a company, but with the position he normally has, he seems to know when things start to go downhill. So if/when he leaves, that's the beginning of the end.

I WANT NONE OF THIS. Giantbomb has been a little garden of eden on the internet over the past few years. I love what Alex and Rorie started with Screened. I enjoyed the heck out of tested (some of their apple-is-god retoric gets a little stale, but still like them [this comes from a guy posting this message from a macbook with an iPhone on his side]), but come on. I am seriously scared. I am just wondering how Jeff and company ever considered this? The big downer with this acquisition as far as GB is concerned is that from now on the site's future is linked to CBS inetractive's financial health. All it would take is a bad year for them and GB could disappear.
