CBS Interactive (GameSpot parent company) buys Giant Bomb

i dunno, she left way before the negotiations happened.

When did she leave? Because if this deal has been in the works since the end of last year, odds are that Whiskey was shopping stuff before that.

I really think that the BLLSL2 was the final test for whether Whiskey could stand on its own or not, and it didn't really work out.

I was thinking the exact same thing. They started shopping around only a couple months after that thing ended. They needed more subs but the number of fans who have the disposable income to support a gaming site of their size isn’t quite high enough. FWIW, I am still glad that I subscribed.

oh, I thought she left in Nov, but it was Dec. you might be right.

I feel bad for Rorie in all this. Seems like Screened was screwed over totally. Not only lost one of the founders but they took all the mixing gear so they will have basically no content, not even a podcast, till they get it. :\

So yesterday marks the last time I'll visit the Tested website proper.

I'll keep getting the podcast unless it changes, though.

Yeah, and to think everyone thought Will/Norm were getting the good end of the deal yesterday... but after seeing that, not anymore.

Just gross.

That Jamie & Adam approved thing on the right with no mention of Will and Norm whatsoever is fucking disgusting.

Going by the website you'd think it's something Jamie and Adam created, it's... unsettling? I'm sure there's more to it than the website shows, but just going off of that... wow.

Jamie and Adam Welcome You to Tested!
Jamie and Adam want to tell you a little about their new home on the web.

Gross.

Kinda shitty to call the site Jamie & Adam's Tested. It makes sense to have them visible presence on the site but that's a bit much.

Let's face it: Will and Norm don't pull a national audience. It's clear that Braun wants to make this a much bigger site, and most people have no idea who they are.

So you get Jamie and Adam plastered all over the place right now.

Over time with Will and Norm still producing most of the content, they'll get more prominence and you may see them return to the face of the site, but the company has to go with the safer bet.

Basically, let's wait and see what some of the new content looks like before we judge.

That is weird to see fo sho. Whoever made those homepage decisions didn't really give a lot of thought as to how the site's already loyal community might take to such a radical focus shift.

Exactly, this is more exposure for them. This a great opportunity for these guys, just gonna take a little time to build up some steam.

Ya I expect it to gradually change over time when newer people get used to will and norm. Mainly just curious to see how involved jamie and adam will be with the site.

That's the thing. Unfortunately, the loyal community was really small. Odds are the amount of people they'll gain by putting Adam and Jaime forward dwarfs the amount of people they'd lose even if the entire current audience never went back.

Yeah agreed, and it is an exciting opportunity. Doesn't make it feel any less icky, though.

You know, after seeing the new Tested, I'm kinda glad that Giant Bomb hasn't been gutted in such a way. It makes that whole split and move to CBS a lot easier to stomach.

I can't really get mad at this, Tested was a very small site and putting forward the two people that would give them credibility only makes sense. Also, Mythbusters is great.

Agreed but I don't think it will be a bad thing for Will and Norm, I could see it being a good thing even though the site rebranding might not reflect it at the moment.

Yikes. What people feared what would happen to Giant Bomb has actually happened to Tested.

As disappointing as it is, plastering Jamie and Adam everywhere was to be expected if they wanted the site to grow.

However, the website and graphic design are a clear step down from what it had in Whiskey Media. The website feels very corporate and cheaply built, and the forums are just plain ugly and IGN-like.

Exactly. People are really overreacting, to think this is still anything other than fantastic is a little short-sighted.

Will and Norm are introduced and on camera in that first video on the new Tested so I don't think it's that big of a deal. The rebranding is logical to increase the exposure of the site, and I think it's an opportunity over time for their work to reach a much wider audience.

Gahhhhhhhhh.

2012. Oh god we're all dead.

damn, that kind of article format is like a cliche joke and it didn't take long.
It feels like the first thing a grad school marketing kid tells a company to do to get more hits.

Again remember, offending the people who already went to tested is not a concer here. If there were enough of them, they may not have done the buy out. They need new people.

The only fear is the swearing in old content thing. This new site screams PG content.

Bet as soon as they have enough new content to remove the old and not look barren, they will.
