Family of Florida boy killed by Neighborhood Watch seeks arrest

How come the lady on the phone says she thinks someone is being shot right after the first shot went off. When the second shot went off, she says only a single shot. So is it one shot or two shots? It sounded like two shots to me.

If you check out the other 911 calls, most of the callers say they heard 2 shots

i'm wondering now if treyvon ran in the first place because zimmerman flashed his gun at him from the car. after that zimmerman might of caught up to him and tried to pin him down because he thinks he is a cop and that is when they might of scuffled and zimmerman decided he could kill him now because treyvon fought back.

Watch this bit of an interview with Trayvon's mother.

I swear, people on this planet are fucking useless.

I can see she was trying to make a funny to cut the tension and probably not trying to be malicious with her words... but that reporter, shit there is no words for the stupidity and insensitivity she displayed.

=_=

Well in the 911 call Zimmerman notices that Treyvon noticed he was being followed by some dark, mysterious, butt-ugly person.... I'd have ran as well... fuck waiting to see a gun.

I keep coming into this thread to see if this fucking asshole has gotten arrested and each time the story just gets worse and worse.

How can we have a tape that is so damning and yet have this guy still a free man?

It's things like this that make people so cynical about the police, our government and the world around us. I try really hard to keep an open mind but things like this make it hard.

For fuck's sake, a 17 year old kid lost his LIFE for no fucking reason. And here we are, watching the police trying to cover their ass, defend zimmerman and reporters making stupid comments. It's disgusting how little regard people have for the life of another.

That comment shouldn't have been made. The clip is only 30 seconds so I'm not sure what circumstances were behind it but even if the lady was trying to sympathize, why say it? And then it makes it so much worse when people laugh and try to continue to make dry flat jokes. She's clearly upset. If you want to lighten the mood don't play off something that sounds stereotypical.

I believe you will soon sadly learn that this is incorrect and that a reason will definitely be found.

I.e. He reached for the bag of skittles, and in the shadows it looked like a gun.

The guy's a rich upper middle class white male with contacts in the police force. They WILL Find a way to justify this.

"Your honor, the departed reached for his skittles, he made the first aggressive move!"

It's an honest question.

I mean, Zimmerman couldn't have gone without an arrest if they actually HAD those recordings, right?

...Right?

......guys?
Welcome to the thread, bro. They not only had the tapes from the beginning but they refused to release them to the family and their lawyers until just recently. It only took a media circus and a suit filed against them.

(psst, it's a joke. i've been here the whole time)

You say this in jest, but you realize that all it takes is for "The Skittles" to look bent and in his pocket and when he takes them out, it looks like a GUN!

Skittles bent or otherwise don't make for a very convincing gun. If anything looked like a weapon it'd have been the Arizona Ice Tea... but if that's what had Zimmerman pursuing the minor(which I doubt it was), I'd say the best defense he could hope for is that he jumped to conclusions early for the safety of his neighbourhood.

I'm "Watched Rosewood for the first time" angry right now. Blackgaf knows what I'm talking about. I feel a rage growing inside of me.

Wow didn't think I'd see this reference on GAF. That said I feel the exact same way I'm gonna be reminded of this story everytime I see a cop from now on.

why do you think this. What, from what we know now, would cause you to believe that Zimmerman had any right to act?

If you hear the 911 call.. someone is screaming long enough to see a skittles bag or not. Zimmerman called with the assumption that he was up to something and that assholes always get away.. all while ignoring the dispatcher. Zimmerman had size on the kid combined with racism and a motive. Plus all his friends in the PD are dirty as fuck, beating up homeless people and acting like pure dicks. They are covering it up, as they clearly have a record of doing so. The media circus is unfortunately the only thing thats going to get justice done.

I mean Kharvey could be right, the kid could have known the touch of death, zimmerman saw it coming. Put him down.. Hell, we all would have done the same thing.

oh wait.

That's probably the most damning thing about the whole incident.

And the fact that he pursued a fleeing minor.

Self defense doesn't work here.

I finally caught up with the calls and updates....this is truly sickening! The 911 tapes paint a much more harrowing picture of what happened. I still cannot believe he wasn't arrested over this.

Now I know why we have these Florida news threads, because something like it could only happen there!

Yep just in the south. We all know anywhere else there is equal justice & cops never cover up shit like this.. Only in the racist south.

I almost want this guy to get off just to see how the community reacts.

It's not that racism only exists in the South. It's that it is only institutionalized to this degree in the South. I don't see why the suggestion that we ignore the South's peculiar history of racism should be taken seriously.

For example, the gun rights/self-defense movement primarily originates from and is strongest in the South. The reason for this is the South's race problem. When self-defense/gun-rights advocates talk about "law-abiding" citizens needing unrestricted access to firearms for their protection from "criminals," they are referring to the George Zimmermans of the world needing protection from black people. Indeed, that is the best explanation for his non-arrest. Vigilantism (especially the white-against-black variety) is unquestionably strongest in the South.

Bill Lee Jr. should be removed as police chief and charged by the FBI for trying to cover this up. He's even helping George Zimmerman stay hidden.

This quote just fills me with rage:

“If someone asks you, ‘Hey do you live here?’ is it OK for you to jump on them and beat the crap out of somebody?” Lee said. “It’s not.”
He just REFUSES to acknowledge any possibility other than "George Zimmerman was an angel defending himself."

I'm usually a very level headed person, but not only do I want vigilante justice against Zimmerman, but I want the fucking corrupt ass police department to be federally investigated.

“If someone asks you, ‘Hey do you live here?’ is it OK for you to jump on them and beat the crap out of somebody?” Lee said. “It’s not.”

If you are a child and an adult male chases you in the dark without any provocation and for no apparent reason and catches up to you, is it OK for you to jump on them and beat the crap out of somebody? Answer: yes, actually.

That child being chased by an adult in the dark for no apparent reason would have a reasonable fear that violence was going to be inflicted on them and would have a right to defend himself by force (even if that belief of imminent harm turned out to be mistaken in retrospect). Lee can't see this because he can't fathom that a black person (presumed dangerous) could have a reasonable fear of harm from a white person (presumed safe).

Like many other people I keep coming in to this thread to see if dude has been arrested yet, and every time it's worse.

What the fuck.

We all agree that if the person screaming for help on those tapes is Trayvon, Zimmerman was not acting in self defense. To be honest releasing the tapes if the police believe this would be an incredibly stupid decision. There are really only three possibilities at this point: Zimmerman acted justifiably, Zimmerman did not act justifiably but the police believe he did(and are therefore rather incompetent), and Zimmerman did not act justifiably, the police know it and are not only incompetent in their role as law enforcement but also in their attempts to cover things up.

We'll see what the DA does now.

Come on now, Harvey. I'm fairly certain most people came to that conclusion well before it became known Martin cried for help prior to being shot. Zimmerman stalked him in a car and subsequently chased him on foot at night. Come on, man.

Not sure what you're implying, but the Sanford PD released the tapes due to external influence.

Police had previously refused to release the calls. Zimmerman, a 28-year-old neighborhood crime watch volunteer, has not been arrested and is not charged with a crime. He claimed the Feb. 26 shooting was in self defense.

...

The agency decided to release the 911 calls after a series of meetings Friday with U.S. Rep Corrine Brown, Sanford's mayor, Jeff Triplett, Commissioner Velma Williams and City Manager Norton Bonaparte. Triplett and Brown will be asking to meet with U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder early next week.

The implication is a coverup is a unfathomably bad idea if these tapes exist and actually contain Trayvon screaming for help.

As per Ezenzer's post, the Sanford PD have done it before with video evidence.

Seems like it's actually a bit worse than that.

In 2010 Justin Collison, the son of a Sanford cop (and the grandson of a Florida Judge), brutally beat a black homeless man unconscious. The supervising officer refused to arrest Collison and it took several weeks, the media running with the story and the release of a videotape of the beating before charges were filed. The same tape the Sanford PD had from day one. Sounds familiar right? This whole incident was such a debacle that Police Chief Brian Tooley was ousted (and replaced by Bill Lee). But it turns out the supervising officer who initially declined to arrest Collison despite having clear evidence a crime had been committed is the same goddamn guy who was in charge the night of the Martin shooting. One Anthony Raimondo, who was investigated and cleared of any wrongdoing for the Collison incident. The same Anthony Raimondo was relieved of duty (with pay) for filing a false police report and after accusations of lying under oath in 2009, but again later cleared to return to service.

The Sanford PD is a fucking joke.

Edit: And the prosecutor who "concluded that there is no basis for any criminal charges to be filed against Sgt. Raimondo for perjury, misconduct or any other crime" and cleared him to return to the department two years ago? State Attorney Norman R. Wolfinger. The same Wolfinger the Sanford PD just handed the Martin case over to.

Fuck this topic is making me so angry.

Where is it said they had that video from day one? The articles seem to suggest they didn't, or at least the chief didn't see it. The situation is, at the very least, a sign of incompetence.

There is even more to that tangent of Justin Collison. He apparently shot someone and walked scot free. Also: when he was 17, he beat and choked his girlfriend, and vandalized her house. That was dropped too.

So all in all, Justin Collison:

- had a severe domestic violence case dropped at 17
- shot and seriously injured someone the next year
- was caught on video getting in 3 fights (including the suckerpunching of the homeless man)

and his only punishment has been paying one victim's hospital bills, donations to charities, and probation. Jesus Christ.
Where is it said they had that video from day one? The articles seem to suggest they didn't, or at least the chief didn't see it. The situation is, at the very least, a sign of incompetence.
From this article:
Collison said little at the hearing but turned beet red when prosecutors played the video in open court. His mother, sitting in the back row, kept her eyes down.

The case caused a sensation because Collison wasn't arrested that night. Instead, Sanford officers sat him in the back of a patrol car, watched the video, then allowed him to go home.
