NFL Off-Season Thread: "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?"

Alex Smallhands sounds so butthurt.

I can't blame him, though. He has a good season and his team makes the NFC Championship and they want to jettison him. He kind of has a reason to be butthurt.

If I were the 49ers I'd make the same decision they're making, but I see why he'd be a bit upset.

Wow, great read. Iggles made out like a boss, I retract my earlier statement about them caving to deSean.
Mark Sanchez just got a contract extension.
and it's basically a two-year deal for $18 mil I believe. Jets won on that contract as much as the Iggles did.

well sorta, Sanchize ain't even worth that much over two years.

The biggest shock of this offseason is that Peyton Manning is basically Brett Favre levels of selfish, narcissistic prick. It's astounding how he courts attention. His crap during the SB week is really what turned it for me. His brother's big week. A big week and feel good story for Indianapolis, and all he can do is jealously attention whore himself.

ALL HAIL LORD BRADY. It was wrong of us to ever cast you in the role of villain

No because the Vikings are never tied with 10 seconds to go.

it's strange to read positive things from other Niner fans. He must be a really good guy.

Alex is a class act. I love the guy. And I'd really like our chances next season with him as our QB, especially with our new improved WR core.

That being said, Peyton Manning is just on another level. I truly want Alex Smith to have success. But even more I want the Niners to win championships. And that seems a lot more likely with a healthy Peyton Manning at the helm (and I trust he is healthy if Baalke and Harbaugh make a run at him).

I really don't like Alex being caught up in this mess right after his breakout season. But as a fan, I understand that we need to get Peyton Manning if we get the chance. And because of that, I want us to get him.

And, let's not forget: Alex could have signed his new contract a week ago, and all this wouldn't have happened. So he really shouldn't be that butthurt - at least not at the Niners. His agent on the other hand...

What did Manning do? He's quietly looking for a new job and visits several teams. To me, this is all ESPN, surveilling him 24/7 (and still missing his workout for the Niners last tuesday).

Yeah, I don't get people comparing this to Favre. Favre was playing retire-come back-retire games all day, meanwhile Peyton had an injured neck and the front office wanted to go with the young #1 pick.

This. Blaming Manning for this circus is fucking idiotic. Because he is the best FA in NFL history he somehow shouldn't work to get the best possible deal and instead should decide early so that you find him more modest?

Get da fuck out.

the thing is he had a contract on the table for 3 weeks and didn't sign it. i wouldn't exactly call that "jettisoning" him out but i can see why he would be hurt over it but it's a business bruh!

Alex had every chance to sign that contract. Niners have every right to look around after that fair contract was on the table for three weeks.

Filed to ESPN: Matt Flynn has agreed to terms witj Seattle on a 3-yr contract worth up to $26M w/$10M guaranteed.

Figure Peyton will go to the Titans now for the easy road to the playoffs now that the Seahawks are the new division favorites what with Flynn and all.

Not even close. Even while he was in Green Bay Favre was constantly threatening to retire, for the sole purpose of forcing the Packers to grovel at his feet and beg him for his services. It's ultimately what led the Packers to move on; they decided to roll the dice with an unproven and arguably disappointing former first round draft choice rather than schedule yet another teary eyed retirement press conference and ride the Favre rollercoaster yet again.

And of course, Favre got all butthurt about it.

Even as the Vikings begged him out of retirement twice, you had the definite feeling that he wanted to play badly, but he just needed private jets to be circling his farm in Mississippi like someone released a bunch of doves. Hell, I'm sure he'd play even today if someone landed a space shuttle in his corn field.

OK, best case scenario:

Peyton goes to TEN.
Flynn is as great as the Packer fans say.
Alex signs with Miami, who go on to win a Wild Card berth.
Kaepernick fucks everything up.

Well, not best case. But it would be funny to see the reactions.

hey Flynn signed thats neat.

Im glad its only 3 years and the 10 mil guaranteed is most likely all in the first year or two...so I think its alright. Its not too heavy an investment if he doesnt pan out and if he does it works well too.

Look forward to see what he can do.

If Peyton goes to TEN, Hasselbeck likely goes to SF.
