When he was trying to break into the industry, he got really far into the Ghibli hiring process but eventually got rejected. He supposedly got a handwritten note from Miyazaki himself who told him to not give up, work harder etc.

Sounds like he dodged a bullet there. Who -really- wants to work at Ghibli as a grunt? :p

Milky Holmes S2 11

Another sakuga episode. After an intense battle with the bad guy to foil his lard spirit bomb, he is forced to transform into the Lard God. Quality action comedy on display. Truly the secret best show of the season, if only more people watched it :(. Milky homies are so few in this thread.

Also Golgo reappears again!

More people are watching it than watched the first season here, though -- I don't remember one person watching beyond episode one other than myself (while I, of course, thought liked it quite a bit).

Reiko Yoshida did the script actually.
Really? He's not credited anywhere for it.
Thank god we dodged that bullet.

Howl's a far better movie then that piece of shit "girl who leapt through time" and "summer warzzzzz"

Hosoda has become the M. Night Shyamalan of anime with digimon being his "the sixth sense" and ""girl leapt throught time" being his "the happening".

hosoda lost it
I like to blame Satoko Okudera. It's not like Hosoda writes his movies.

Edit: I do not support the notion that Howl's Moving Castle is better than those films.

Oh shit. A CHALLENGER APPROACHES.

Ringo, you are better than the other Ringo. She's pretty rad, but you got this shit.

Also, it appears that
Ringo is pretty angry about the guys getting their own show!

She has a right too! Better than all the male characters (sans Karasawa)

But that's not true. Somewhere out there, there is a complete set of storyboards for Hosoda's Howl's Moving Castle. Some day maybe the script will turn up too. There are scans for several pages of the storyboards that you can find online, it gives a decent idea of how the movie would have looked at least, including his design of the castle.

We should find the script and then do a kickstarter to get the movie made.

Oh man, a Hosoda-Yoshida movie would make firehawk's head explode.

Hosoda should work with her again :( All the K-On can't be good for her.

Porco Rosso

I've heard pretty damn good things about this movie but none of them could prepare me for just how amazing it was, not only was the film filled to the brim with incredibly charming characters (especially Marco!) but the animation was fantastic, especially the mechanical animation which stood out to me due to the increasing lack of that kinda stuff nowadays. This is easily my favourite Miyazaki Ghibli work and I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't yet had the pleasure of experiencing such a fantastic film!
I'm glad another realizes that it's his best work at Ghibli.

Dead

well not really...yet
Porco Rosso was dubbed by Jean fucking Reno.

That is enough to tell you how awesome the movie is.

For some reason I still think Kiki is my favorite Miyazaki movie though.

Eh, it was okay, but the story and ending were seriously lacking... it's nowhere near as good as Nausicaa, Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke, or Spirited Away.

I did like some thing about it, and it is a good movie overall, but it's far from his best, in my opinion.

Whoops. >_> That makes it even more saddening. I wish Hosoda would do a movie with her again. :(

Here's what we generally know about Hosoda's Howl's:

- Hosoda had completed pretty much all the storyboards for the film.

- Reiko finished at least a complete draft of the script.

- Based on Hosoda's interview comments after his One Piece movie, we know that stylistically it was probably going to be similar because it was what Hosoda felt like making at that time, which is to day it would have a dark tone and be visually complex, and surrealist in direction.

- The design of the castle and the storyboards do match up with that theory, and you can see them below. The reason Ghibli canned the movie was apparently because it was far too different from the usual animation style that Ghibli was known for, and the animators/animation director rebelled against him forcing him to quit.

If there is one thing I would criticize Studio Ghibli for lately it is that they use the same exact character design in EVERY SINGLE MOVIE.
Mixing it up a little isn't a bad thing guys.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

It was ok. It was about as I expected when I watched the short and something that I think would be better off in small doses.

Demon Lord Dante 1

This looks like it'll be garbo. Didn't realize there was a cameo from this property in Shin Mazinger Z though!

Kid Icarus Thanatos Rising 1-3

Thought I'd hate this but was given a charming little show with some fun banter thrown in. Thanatos laid it on a bit thick but Pit/Palutena were pretty funny. I think I'd have liked a longer version of this as and I was surprised the 3D seemed relatively well done.

Kid Icarus Medusa's Revenge

Seemed more like a setup for something larger (yeah yeah the game) but I liked the visuals despite the 3D detracting from it. As soon as I saw it was 2D I should've turned the 3D effect off. Instead I was treated to three minutes of my right eye twitching.

Sailor Moon R 66

Damn it, I was worried they were serious at first about Minako losing a finger. Cute ep though and I hope it starts the thawing process for Mamoru and Usagi.

Luna showing a little shoulder.

Also the animators were getting a little fancy.

So Ponyo looks like Arrietty looks like Umi?

The mother of the boy definitely looks like the characters in Mononoke for example, and also Arrietty. If I remember correctly, the old lady in Howls looks exactly like the witches from Spirited Away. Pretty sure I recognized other resused designs too. I mean it makes all their work very homogenous but I'd like them to mix it up a bit more. Like maybe having Howls in a different art style and character design entirely might have made it more interesting.

Nisemonogatari 11

Couldn't ask for a greater ending to this season. I wonder where it goes from here?
Continued the fake versus real topic to its natural conclusion, not unexpected, but enjoyed it regardless.

Symphogear 11

Holy hell. Lots happening.
We learn pretty much everything, much of it seemingly from out of nowhere.

Chris singing a song to stop the moon from being blown up. I doubt many anime can top that, lol.

Still lots waiting to happen, mostly with Hibiki and her inevitable death, which was shown in the first episode.

Persona Four 23

They caught the emotion behind Nanako's death pretty well. The muted sounds and lack of music did it great justice. Her father's reaction was done less well.

Irresponsible Captain Tylor 7

Some really great moments in this episode, like
Yuriko winning the arm-wrestling match when Tylor cheers for Andressen and damn if she doesn't make some funny faces in the process.
One could say that Tylor is just lucky, but luck is the most important skill in battle, after all!

Hijikata, what a boss. This ep wasn't as good as two before it, but served as an interesting transitionary ep of sorts, still. Akidzuki showed more character in this ep than he has the whole series. Im glad my call on Kakunojo drawing him out a bit seemed to be in the mark.

I'm going to give the first season a shot, since I need something to do while I wait for episodes of Mirai Nikki.

The site updated.

Original Author: Sakuraba Kazuki
Director: Masayuki Miyaji
Script: Ichiro Okouchi
Visual Image: Okama
Character Design: Seiichi Hashimoto
Music: Michiru Oshima

Studio is not listed but it seems VERY likely to be a BONES production now.

So a full team transformation takes about two and a half minutes. Good to know.
This was the first episode where the humor barely made up for the weaker fight scenes, not that there weren't some funny moments, especially that bit at the end. However, I guess they're finally done with all the "setup" episodes for now, and the next episode looks like it could be comedy gold, so we'll see if it balances out.
Interesting.

...what exactly is the project again, and when was it announced? I haven't exactly been following it along.

Oh shit, Seiichi Hashimoto? Michiru Oshima?

Xam'd reunion!

Hopefully this will be Ichiro Okouchi of Planetes fame, the one that used to associate with BONES, and not the Code Geass variant

You mean the Okouchi who worked with Miyaji on E7 ep26? :p
