Nothing about this show makes sense...
As I pointed out before, how about GPS, or cell phones, or at least walkie talkies? Could any of those items have come in handy this episode, like the last one maybe?
If the barn could hold like twenty walkers pretty much forever, with humans right outside, how come it could only last like twenty seconds before hands started breaking through the barn walls when Rick was inside? Like with the zombie that was unable to lift his foot out of mud but could disembowel cows and humans, there seems to be little consistency.
And endless supply of shotgun shells, no need to reload, characters no one cares about dying as if the audience is supposed to care about them, fifty headshots in a row while leaning out of moving cars that are driving over rough terrain at night, more last-second saving of characters (the cheapest stunt to build fake tension available to any storyteller) this time by some anime chick with a 20 foot long sword... and there better be an explanation for why her two zombies pets are not constantly trying to eat her, even if they are missing their arms and jaws.

I'm a big fan of this show and I always defended the episodes prior when gaf would shit on them, but it seems like we're at opposites again with this finale. Now everyone loves the finale but I'm kind of meh'd by it. I was entertained but there were some major writing frustrations I can't get over.
Why is Rick being villainized? He did nothing wrong. Why make him into a dick at all? It's plainly obvious Shane had to go and Rick explained what happened (I'm part of Team Shane btw, he was my favorite character and wish he hadn't died but I get why and it was necessary for story purposes. He did it in self defense, Shane wasn't going to back down. I'm glad they went the extra mile and killed off important characters. It shows that everyone isn't necessarily safe). Lori is the one that should be villainized, and she already is amongst us but the writers seem to be writing her as if we should be sympathizing. Sympathizing with what? An irresponsible clumsy stupid lady that is unwilling to listen to reason? She is absolutely insufferable and I hope both her and Carl die painful deaths in season 3.
Then there's everyone meeting up on the highway. You know, Smallville had Deus Ex Machina in almost every episode, but because it happened so often it became kind of charming. Like it was so bad it was good and you just watched because it's Smallville, but a show like this can't continue to get away with that. How did they all manage to meet up at the same time within what seemed like 5-10 minutes at most within the time frame of the show? After a scene where Maggie and Glenn seem to be in the middle of nowhere together, but 5 min later the whole crew is back together just to prevent Rick from responding to Carl's inane stupidity. Why is Carl such a whiney little cunt? He wonders what's going on and when Rick tries to explain it to him he runs away and cries. JUST STAY STILL AND LISTEN TO REASON. If you can't do that then you shouldn't be shooting a gun at all you little John Wayne wannabe shithead.
Then there was the worst of them all: The supposed need to hunker down and camp and then get gas in the morning. What is this shit. If it was life or death you know everyone could fit in that gray mini van without a problem what so ever. Sit on people's laps, lay in the trunk etc. do what you can. I've seen Guinness world records of 50 Mexicans fitting into Volkswagen beetles. Don't tell me you NEED to camp there the night. This is when I realized people's problems with the writing were real and how they create scenario's that don't make sense just for the sake of increasing 'drama'.
I feel like I'm forgetting some more issues but I can't recall them right now. Why couldn't there be a 2 hour finale? There are lots of shows that do 2 hour premiere's and finale's. This is definitely one that could've used it. Too much rushing, 75% of the show was action which is nice but not much of it felt like it meant anything. I didn't feel like they were ever truly in danger, there's so much open ground and walkers don't move that fast, they could've just kept running but for some reason they stayed around and shot a bunch of zombies just for the sake of entertaining us. It doesn't feel like storytelling it's just action for the sake of it.
With that being said, my positives are:

Shane is Carl's real father, because they were cheating for the duration of her marriage to Rick

^ literally after the mess at the farm, the episode was completely sapped of excitement and tension. Everything else on the road was boring to watch and these "survivors" who just had to abandon where they'd camped and lived for months; continued to act irrationally.

Yes, I think the usual 45 minutes was insufficient. They needed at least double that to build more tension. I just laughed when Carol was standing next to Andrea and then just "lost" her, they needed more time to keep things more consistent. I hope they consider this for next season.

I know it got covered, but I would suggest you start at the beginning. The differences are big enough that it won't feel too same-y to you and some of the characters in the show who are god-awful are pretty cool in the comics.
I'd say buy the compendium.
I have read up to somewhere in the 80's now and it hasn't affected my enjoyment of the TV series at all. I read a ton of the comics, then watched S1 as it aired and now S2. I haven't minded knowing what happens in the comics at all, because you never know what will be the same or different, like the CDC stuff, Sophia, most everything that happened at the farm.
Well I would hope that anyone bashing the show's writing wouldn't try to claim the comic is literary genius or anything. I enjoy the writing enough of both though. I'm not looking to read War and Peace or watch Apocalypse Now.

Kirkman announced that he finished up Compendium 2 on the 14th. Finally...the wait was killer. I started buying volumes but quit because I like the compendium format.
Just saw the teaser for the Walking Dead game too. Hope that comes out soonish. I haven't played a Telltale Game yet, but I am excited for this.
I really enjoyed the finale. Some annoying stuff, but that's par for the course with this show. Gotta love the good stuff. How can you hate a half-hour of non-stop zombie action?

I can't stand Lori or Carl. A better resolution to the Lori/Shane/Rick thing would have been to kill Lori and Carl IMO. I hope they get knocked off in season 3.

Great episode, I think this might be the best one so far in both seasons. Close to the premiere, though a totally different feel. I really like the direction the new director has gone, and to see Michonne show up at the end like she did in the comic was just awesome. Bad ass Rick is here, and I love it. Great episode.
I was curious today over where they filmed parts of the show since I'm originally from GA, and there's a website that shows each place they filmed. Someone also did a map on Bing and you can click on each location and get some backstory on it.
It's possible, but I doubt it. The phrasing from the guys in the bar, seemed like they were looking for better places to stay. The Prison is a great place to stay, in a zombie apocalypse.
Andy: Lorry is an english term for Truck. Though, I thought it was mainly meant for 18 wheeler trucks. Thanks Top Gear UK!

20 foot sword and 10 yards away?!?! She took five steps after the killing. She's seems to be only 5'6. I assume her shoe size is a woman's 7 she might have needed a reach of 45 inches or so.
Let's say her wingspan is her height 66 inches it is perfectly within reality to use a sword ( which adds to your reach) to perform that kill.

So I thought maybe they were going to throw in some extra drama in the end with Rick losing his temper. But T-Dog already got his ass beat once in first season so its probably not necessary. I just wish they'd do something with the character. He's still alive, but he's such an unimportant character. I also wish they'd stop calling him T-Dog in serious situations. Like when Lori was convincing him to turn around. It totally breaks the tension. "T-Dog please" just doesn't sound sincere.

Ah you're right, I remember them saying that on Top Gear before. I'm surprised they filmed most of the show south of Atlanta. That explains all the gnats you can see in some of the shots. I'd have filmed further north if only to avoid that (and the increased heat and humidity).

Ugh, Lori is an awful character. I agree with Angry Fork's entire post SO MUCH. The show is trying to villainize Rick and wants fans to sympathize with Lori. The writers are crazy.
