I can't agree. It's immensely important that the world understand these atrocities in real, human terms. Being able to hear and see makes it so much more real.
 
Yeah, the Miami Herald just reported the DoJ and FBI are getting involved. What's really interesting about their article though is that it reveals Zimmerman's side of the story, something I haven't heard until now.

Volunteer George Zimmerman, 28, told police he had stepped out of his truck to check the name of the street he was on when Trayvon jumped him from behind and attacked him, police said. He said he feared for his life and fired a semiautomatic handgun he was licensed to carry, because he feared for his life.

Complete and total BS scenario - in the 911 tape you can hear him say that he sees the suspect, that he was running, and that he was going to pursue him. Did he get out of the car, suddenly go blind - regain his sight, decide to check where he was - and within this time the victim suddenly teleported behind him?
 
Yeah Trayvon totally jumped him like the thug he was right? Zimmerman isn't fucking fooling any of us but apparently his word is good enough for the Sanford PD. Gross.
 
Zimmerman's "I was jumped from behind when I stepped out of my car" story becomes complete fiction after hearing the 911 tapes. Now remember that these are the same tapes the Sanford PD had from the beginning and refused to release. And remember that while they held on to the tapes they were telling the family, their lawyers and the media that Zimmerman wasn't being arrested because his self defense claim was seemingly justified.

Wow, this is a horrible story. I had an uncle that was murdered when he was 16 by a guard at a HS who thought he was breaking in, so I've always had a bias against guards who let this control shit go to their head.

I hope this guy rots for the rest of his life. But its Florida, he'll probably end up going free.

Thanks. The parts you never think about are what sucks the most. We were roommates at the time, but you never think about back up plans for rent when a roommate is killed like that. And we hung out so often together, the places I'd like to go for fun all have strong memories of him.

If I hadn't gone home for Christmas break, I know I would have been drinking with him that night. I know I shouldn't think this way, but I wonder what if? If I had been there, would I have flirted with a group of girls at a different bar and this never would have happened? Or could I have done anything to warn him? Or could it have been me who was killed that night?

I'm not sure. Like I said, it was in a crowded area. New Year's Eve in a popular drinking area for a fairly populated city. At the very least, his cousin was there and talked to the cops. The cops haven't released any information other than what I mentioned about wanting to talk to a black man named Don who was wearing jeans and a t-shirt
 
Is this "jumped from behind" story showing up anywhere else? It's obviously a lie; be pretty surprising if that was what he claimed initially but it hadn't come out until now.

How could they not, he has DAT SQUEAKY CLEAN RECORD, and Trayvon was all suspicious and shit with them skittles trying to taste(steal) the rainbow. Mr Zinmerman was obviously trying to save him from developing type 2 diabetes due to the high sugar content of his diet when he was assaulted.

That's a better story than the one Zimmerman provided.

The thing here though is bringing charges on Federal Civil Rights law might be hard. But good to know this is getting more attention.

Duh.

The bittersweet irony is that it's his own overzealous 911 call which will bury him. Without his own testimony, we never would've known that Trayvon actually ran away from him. He will never be able to escape that revelation, which burns any attempt at claiming self-defense in court. He's fucked. Proper fucked.

The only way he gets off, is if they never arrest him. But with the media exposure and pressure, I refuse to believe that shit flies.

TBH i can see him taking his own life before any case.

I can't see how can a man so seemingly obsessed with law and order could handle being a scumbag convict for potentially the rest of his life.

This story reeks of "I panicked and shot the kid and made some shit up".

However, if there's no evidence to disprove the guy's version of the story, then I don't know what the FBI and DoJ can do. I guess it depends on those 911 calls and if they can establish the identities of the parties on the call
 
That story Zimmerman came up with is just fucking stupid to the point of being offensive.

Dude clearly has some connections inside of the police department.

The only problem is, it seems as if its the ONLY story police have at the moment. One thing I've noticed in this thread is that everyone assumes that the police are turning a blind eye because they either know this guy, or are racist or something. But it might very well be that they don't have any concrete evidence other than this guy put a bullet in this kid, and the only story that they have is the shooter's "self-defense" claim.

They had the 911 tapes that contradict his story. There's also evidence of the first officer on scene virtually bullying witnesses. Plus his battery of an officer charge that got not only dismissed but expunged.

The department is either extremely stupid or he has some kind of deep connection.

Nope. There were 911 tapes that they had since the day of the incident as well as witnesses that heard sounds and saw what happened. Although police have told those witnesses they misheard

The whole Hispanic angle originates from the letter Zimmerman's father wrote to the media in an attempt to cast his son in a more positive light.

The tragic events of February 26 are very sad for all concerned. The Martin family, our family, and the entire community have been forever changed.

The portrayal of George Zimmerman in the media, as well as the series of events that led to the tragic shooting are false and extremely misleading. Unfortunately, some individuals and organizations have used this tragedy to further their own causes and agendas.

George is a Spanish speaking minority with many black family members and friends. He would be the last to discriminate for any reason whatsoever. One black neighbor recently interviewed said she knew everything in the media was untrue and that she would trust George with her life. Another black neighbor said that George was the only one, black or white, who came and welcomed her to the community, offering any assistance he could provide. Recently, I met two black children George invited to a social event. I asked where they met George. They responded that he was their mentor. They said George visited them routinely, took them places, helped them, and taught them things and that they really loved George. The media portrayal of George as a racist could not be further from the truth.

The events of February 26 reported in the media are also totally inaccurate. Out of respect for the on-going investigation, I will not discuss specifics. However, the media reports of the events are imaginary at best. At no time did George follow or confront Mr. Martin. When the true details of the event become public, and I hope that will be soon, everyone should be outraged by the treatment of George Zimmerman in the media.

Our entire family is deeply sorry for the loss of Trayvon. We pray for the Martin family daily. We also pray that the community will grieve together and not be divided by more unwarranted hate.

The Zimmerman family will have no further contact with the media prior to the resolution of the investigation. It would be greatly appreciated if the media would respect our privacy.

In addition to the ridiculous "We have black [friends/family/coworkers]" defense, note how he also claims his son absolutely did not follow or confront Martin, which we now know to be 100% bullshit.
 
Ok ok. One thing I would like addressed is if this zimmerman guy is white or not. Based on the photo, people are saying he's hispanic. But not every white guy has blue eyes and blonde hair.

The reason why I think this is important is because if he is white, then the argument of the cops being racist is a possibility. Assuming the chief of police is white as well, and a racist.

If this has nothing to do with race, then what could it be? Is zimmerman a son of a powerful person in florida?

Either this is a cover up by the police, or they honestly within the law can't find a reason to arrest him due to lack of evidence.

Based on what we know about the 911 tapes, about the witnesses, about how some of the police were acting, I really doubt it's lack of evidence.

It's a cover up, but why? Race based ?
