Then have mandatory testing every two years. May seem silly, but this is an issue of lives. With how easily weapons can be obtained in our society, this issue should get more attention. In the end, it's for the benefit of those suffering from these diseases, which is what these conditions are. By doing so, I also think society will be more accepting of people suffering from these disorders, and treat them like other diseases that people suffer from.

Ideally instead of mandated shrinking It'd be more effective to engage in education programs to change attitudes about mental health issues while maintaining easily accessible facilities for all citizens.

You really don't seem to understand mental illnesses. What would these tests do? Medical histories are private, so how would these theoretical tests help?

It's to sad to be funny.

This. I remember the first time I saw mental illness...broke my fucking heart. Still does when I think about it. Watching a normal, quiet, kind, respectful person strip naked and walk in circles while muttering to themselves about the end of the world just isn't something I'd wish on anyone.

Then the guilt/shame expressed when they get some meds in and realize what happened and how it all went down.

Just sad. I think the stigma of mental illness needs to be removed and we'll see so many more people opt to be proactive about getting treatment rather than reactive.

Do I understand what I'm doing if I say I understand what I'm doing?

If you demonstrate that you understand what you're doing is wrong then you understand that what you're doing is wrong. That is the legal definition of sanity and it is the legal definition because it's the only definition that matters when assessing culpability. And before we play semantics, wrong means knowing that you're doing something unacceptable, which both examples clearly did.

Universities and mental health do not mix well.

Are you thinking about suicide? and you decided to get help by first telling one of the college's therapists? Congratulations you just got yourself expelled.

As someone that's witnessed someone in a psychotic state multiple times I'd just like to state that while that's "the law" it's fucking dumb that's the only criteria for being truly insane.

For example you can know killing is wrong but be so paranoid and afraid that you're clutching a knife ready to stab whoever comes through the door because you KNOW the feds put a tracking chip in your arm and you SEE the agents that just pulled up in your driveway.

Yea my gf showed me this...it was right before her class in the same room. Crazy shit, I've never of anything like this happening at FAU before, the closest thing would probably be that random preacher guy who comes and calls us all sinners every now and then.

I don't know what's crazier, the girl snapping like she did, or these idiots not filming in panorama mode.

Given that the first thing you think of when someone is filming an individual with mental issues, is whether "panorama mode" is enabled, I'd say you're the craziest.

Apparently the Trayvon Martin murder "hit home" and she was an emotional wreck beforehand. Shouldn't have even left home in that condition

Why should she be an emotional wreck. Unless she knew the kid or was family her emotions should remain controlled.

Mandatory testing? I'm no psychologist, but I think diagnosing a mental disorder is a little more involved than requiring people to provide a certificate from their doctor that they got their booster shots. I don't think the regime you're proposing would be practical or cost-effective. People might also object on privacy grounds.

Well, something has to be done. Mental health services, public at least, are getting cut all through the states, and it's putting a lot of people who need real help in terrible situations. Stuff doesn't have to be made public, and obviously, I'm open to other ideas, but it's clear something must be done.

This has already been mentioned, but the camera orientation.

Why are there so many people that don't record the proper way, which is landscape? WHY?!

wut?
They can't expel you for that. And I miss my college therapist, the dude looked like Norman Jayden from Heavy Rain.

She might be on Xanax or Zoloft or some type of sedative or something. She would have to be taking some type of mood altering medication for someone to just spontaneously flip off and melt down like that. Bottle up emotions tend to do that to a lot of people, then it comes out really aggressive.

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- We now know that 24-year-old Jonatha Carr was fired up about the case of Trayvon Martin when she had her violent outburst during an evolution class at Florida Atlantic University.

Martin is the young central Florida teen who was killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer. That volunteer has not been charged in the teen's death and Carr calls that an extreme injustice. While we can't say that's what caused her outburst at FAU Tuesday, we do know she was interviewed about the case the night before.

Carr was completely out of control in her evolution class Tuesday morning, cursing at her professor, hitting fellow students, and being hauled out of the class against her will.

But the night before she seemed totally in control. She was interviewed by a Miami TV station about the bus trip she was organizing to the rally for Trayvon Martin.

"He was killed in a such a way that struck a nerve with my family and I," Carr said during the interview.

Carr said that when she was growing up her brothers were often questioned in their Broward County community even though they were doing nothing wrong, just like Trayvon Martin.

"A normal everyday occasion such as walking and he died for that," said Carr.

Fast forward 16 hours later and Carr is placed in the back of an FAU patrol car. According to the police report Carr "suddenly began yelling at her instructor and class saying things like, 'white people suck, Jewish people who think the world is theirs which it is not, I will kill you'....Carr kept going on about killing people."

Carr struck a fellow student across his head before she was taken out of the room by FAU employees. Refusing to calm down and attacking the officers, she was handcuffed. But according to the police report, "she aggressively resisted being placed in the police car by lying on the ground and stiffening her body."

Eventually authorities had to use a stun gun to get her inside the car and bring her to the South County Mental Health Center for mental evaluation. She is facing battery charges and has reportedly been expelled from FAU.

We did try to contact Carr's sister who is organizing the bus trip to the rally in Sanford for Trayvon Martin, but she had no comment about her sister's actions.

FAU released the following statement Wednesday morning:

The FAU Police Department was alerted of a significant disturbance caused by a student in a classroom in the General Classrooms South building at FAU’s Boca Raton campus the afternoon of Tuesday, March 20.

In order to provide for the safety of all concerned, the student had to be physically removed from the classroom by two FAU employees. The FAU Police Department escorted the student off of campus property and transported her to a local hospital for examination in accordance with Florida's Baker Act.

In light of today’s information, the Dean of Students is taking immediate action regarding this student.

The health, safety and welfare of FAU students, faculty and staff are of utmost importance. To that end, the FAU Police Department and the Division of Student Affairs continues to do all it can to ensure a safe environment for the FAU campus community.

Charles Brown, Ph.D.

Vice President of Student Affairs at FAU

She is that one student who always interrupts class and asks stupid questions. Guess they snap when the professor can't answer them.

One of the very first classes I ever took in college was Physical Science. The professor was talking about Newton's third law of motion (for every action, there's an equal and opposite reaction), and that there's no documented instance in the universe where this law didn't apply. Some random dude in the class, who was in his 40s or 50s yells out: "WELL WHAT ABOUT A BIKE?". The professor basically went "uh..yeah it works with that too.". The guy who blurted that out didn't say anything else for the rest of the semester.

title made me think of Dark Phoenix Saga

Watched video and got something way scarier than Jean Grey destroying the universe. Holy shit. Shirley was wildin' in that video.

So, she's mad at every non-black because of what happened in Florida? What the hell kind of racist shit is that?
Its a persecution type thing... its hardly as common these days (at least in the way described), but its been a very serious issue in the past with various cultures, areas, etc.

However, that doesn't change my opinion that she is simply crazy as fuck.

Honest question, do you consider her a bad person, or does being crazy offer a bit of an excuse for her behavior?

That's a pretty big gap between answers don't you think? I can only say she's a bad person OR I'm making excuses for her behavior? Word?

Why can't she be racist and crazy? I mean shit... plenty of racists don't need to act like that to prove their racist mettle. She's obviously off the deep end. The racist wtfisshetalkingabout part is obvious.

When people get crazy, their true prejudice comes out. Thanks for the Jew hate, crazy lady.

The Jews are having enough trouble holding onto a tiny strip of desert in the Middle East, I don't understand why people have historically been so paranoid about them trying to take over the world.

It's to sad to be funny.

This was my reaction, but in my head I used the proper form: too.

She's clearly got issues. I feel bad for her. Although if she hit me in the head I cant say for sure that I'd have been able to hold it together.
