There's so many things that could've gone wrong with this show but so far they've made a lot of right choices to make it different enough from TLA yet still familiar. It must've been tough to find the right balance.

I also don't get her story so far Aang watched his whole family and people get killed and he hated violence for it, but Korra is just hey im the avatar fuck you teach me.

This made me lol.

But it makes sense that Korra would have that attitude. She has been groomed her whole life to be the chosen one, trained by the greatest instructors in the world, and protected by a secret society, she's bound to have entitlement issues. Aang didn't have that because he ran away from home as soon as he found out he was the Avatar. I don't think she's going to be so bratty from now on though. That seemed like a one episode thing.

I wonder what Mako and Bolin's lineage is.

I really suspect they are related to
Kori from the comics in some way. Probably not Zuko and Kori since that may be more romance complication than the producers want to deal with but Kori and someone. She was from a mixed family and her father was the mayor of the colony that became republic city. Mako does firebending and Bolin does earth bending.

I think Korra's biggest problem is that she was far too powerful and too good at bending at such a young age. she is powerful but has NO finesse. As shown in her fight against those gangsters.

She seems to be a powerful water bender but i doubt she can heal. She is a powerful fire bender but i don't see her using much lighting. She may be able to move mountains but not bend metal.
And air bending seems to be all about finessing and using a gentle touch.

At this point I think Aang is a much better and versatile bender then Korra is.

Did anyone get the names of the masters in the white lotus? I would really like to know who these people are that trained her and why are they so worthy of training the avatar.

One thing about Aang's journey was we got to see the amazing masters that trained him and why they were so good. bumi was the best so was toph, jeong jeong was badass, master pakku was awesome katara was damn good by the end too.

I hope they expand more on her backstory in the coming episodes. I don't mind her personality and I like that it contrasts aangs but I just want them to elaborate on why instead of it just seeming like we just needed the anti aang.

We're two episodes in dude.

She's arrogant and led a sheltered life upheld as THE AVATARRRR. She also found out ~10-12 years before most Avatars do traditionally (16).

To be fair, Aang was discovered as the Avatar almost as early. 8 or 9 years old i think. Aang also grew up in a monastery, then was frozen in ice for 100 years.(Talk about sheltered!)

Dealing with the 100 years war forced Aang to grew into is role as Avatar. Just as Korra having to deal with the anti-benders and bringing balance to republic city will help her grow into her role as Avatar.

Aang was all skill and finesse that grew into his power. Korra seems to be all skill and power that will learn subtly and finesse from Tenzen.

We're two episodes in dude.

Aang learned all four elements, tremor sense from Toph, lighting redirection from Zuko, energy bending and complete mastery of the Avatar state by age 12.

Korra is 16 years old knows 3 elements and has all the subtly of a raging tiger-dillo.

I like what they've shown of Korra so far but Aang outclasses her in every category. But I'm sure she'll get there eventually.

My Avatar would beat up your Avatar.

Thanks, worked here.

EDIT: Ah, first circumvent stuff and than click the link?
EDIT 2: Wheeerrrreee?
EDIT 3: Well finally, they should at least give a notice if they block if off for outsiders.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy.

Streaming I guess? Hows the quality? Better or worse than the screener?

Amazingly awesome HD goodness!

Just woke up and saw that the thrad moved by five pages since last night.
So it was Avatar watching time :)

Ich loved the second episode, maybe even more than the first one. Pro bending is a great addition to the universe and I love all the new characters, even though Mako is still a bit too moody right now, but I guess he will warm up as the Krew groes together.

My favourite character by far is Tenzin though. He has such a difficult role to uphold, leading the city and training the Avatar, so I was glad to see him having fun when Korra and the brothers won the match :D

And the animation on this is superb. So many little details in each scene and movement.

Tenzin's son is hilarious. They actually had me laughing out loud when he decides to ape Korra and call his dad a terrible teacher.

Since I saw confusion about the rules of pro bending a few pages back, I thought I'd write down the rules that Bryan explained and what we saw in Episode 2:

1. A pro bending match consists of 3 rounds.
2. One round lasts 3 minutes.
3. All three rounds are played, even if one team already won Round 1 and 2.
4. The team which gained the most territory at the time the buzzer sounds at the end of the round, wins that round.
5. If all members are knocked back behind the line of a zone, the other team is allowed to move up to the zone next to it. This will be signaled by the respective line lighting up in green.
6. You are not allowed to knock off people on the sides, only on the back of the ring.
7. Water and earth benders are only allowed to use the water and earth disks from the zone they are in at that moment.
8. A bender that is knocked out of the ring can't join in again that round. He is allowed to return the next round.
9. If one team manages to knock all members from the other team off the field, they automatically win the entire match. This is also the reason for Rule 2.
10. Two referees watche the match and are able to deal out penalties.
11. For example, if you knock out a bender on the side or you step over the front line of your zone, you will get a penalty and have to move back one zone.
12. It is not allowed to hit people in the face with fire bending or the earth discs. Water benders are allowed to hit the head, but ice is always permitted.
13. If one player happens to be the Avatar, he or she is only allowed to bend one element.

I think those are the most important rules. I'll add more if something is unclear, I can think of more or new stuff comes up during the show.

JK Simmons was pretty amazing as Tenzin. He was unrecognizable and on top of that its nice to see him break away from that stereotypical gruff type.

Kid had a badass war to deal with. Circumstances are circumstances.

Simmons was pretty amazing, I agree. Can't unhear spike with amon, though.

I didn't know we could already watch Legend of Korra :O
Can you watch a HD version somewhere because I can only find SD versions.

Thank you for this thread and double thanks for the link. Teared up at leaf through the things for some reason, yeah I'm a softie. Still anxious for the 14th.

omfg 1080p korra so good

You absolutely need to watch this in hi-res to check out the facial expressions and the character animations. They're amazing. Korra especially has a really strong physical presence. I also really like how Tenzin has a very strong frame but retains very airbender-like qualities of lightness and flow.

By the way, was there any direct contact in ATLA? I just noticed in the confrontation in Episode 1, Korra actually kicks a dude in the head (and into a car). And she totally flings the dude into the wall by herself.

I think LoK may have a bit less animation frames than TLA (depends on the scene though) but quality of the expressions and movements more than make up for it. They got some great animators working on this.

The goddamn Ba Gua is super cool.

I'm very interested in the inhabitants of Tenzin's temple. I wonder if he's trying to teach Airbending outside of genetics?

I'm not sure if the White Lotus Society is still a secret organisation or not. It'll be interesting if they're more overt in this.

The kid VOs are amazing. Actually, I think all the VOs are amazing. Korra's got that rebellious spark, Tenzin sounds like the master he is and is so far outside what I'm used to seeing JK Simmons in, Bolin is incredibly affable, Mako is the slightly less douchey Zuko. I love it.

Oh man this show is awesome. Korra is fucking amazing as a character, way better than Aang IMO. Tenzin is pretty hilarious trying to teach her.

Seems to me like they're about to blatantly push Korra and Mako as an item, LOL. They didn't even try to hide it this time around.

I don't mind, whatever.

I really like how the style mutates in the pro-bending arena. It's like some kind of crazy amalgamation of boxing and martial arts.

Yes, the animation really shines in HD. Just amazing to watch it.

There definitely was physical contact in TLA but I think most of teh time that happened a non bender was involved. Fights between benders didn't have much contact from what I remember.

Regarding the inhabitants, I think it's more the people who want to adopt the air nomads peaceful style of living, which I'm sure Aang tried to preserve as good as he could.

And yes, the voice work is really nice so far. JK SImmons does Tenzin perfectly. Like you said, a real master bvut in alikable way who stops being serious every now and then. And also a real father figure.

I'm not sure about the Mako/Korra pairing btw. Yes, Mako obviously likes her but Korra looking at the pro bending building in the end had nothing to do with Mako in my opinion.

"Hey Katara, whatever happened to Zuko's mother?"

"Well Korra........"

*interrupted by kid*

Me: FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I really loved how similar to boxing the pro bending looked. Especially Mako peek-a-booing in the first match.

It'll be good to see the build up of Ba Gua, especially since we never really saw Aang /learn/ any airbending.
