I actually thought they could use the excuse of it bombing but apparently it did alright worldwide.
Reviews though is a different matter.

Wooooohoooo...just watched both episodes. Man....it was everything I wanted it to be and more. I was laughing out loud at some points. Can't wait for more

I would like to think that the fan response has not gone unnoticed.
I feel like Korra's story would work better as a movie. It is a shorter and more focused story with one main conflict and one setting. I haven't even seen the Shyamalan movie yet so I can't say too much about it but I assume it was bad. Maybe Christopher Nolan can direct the Legend of Korra!

That's a bit of an understatement. Bending looks like dancing and is totally ridiculous. The plot and characters are mangled. Everyone important is white, except the Fire Nation. They're bad guys so they got to be Indian of all things 'cause this is Shyamalan. I don't think there will ever be appetite for another live action adaptation again.
I think Shammalammadingdong pretty much ruined any chance of another avatar movie being made

I actually thought Dev Patel as Zuko would be interesting at first.
Five earthbenders dancing for five minutes to throw one dog-sized boulder was amazing. I cried tears of mirth.
I would also watch this show.
I cried since it was rape on my eyes.

I just started/finished watching the Last Airbender for the first time this weekend...

prequels aren't really that exciting to me though, since we know the outcome. it would probably have great characters and a fun story to follow though.

I think the very beginning of bending would be quite interesting. To see what struggles the first Avatar had to go through, back then when noone even knew who he was and the Avatar couldn't use the power and knowledge of countless generations before him.
That would be great just so the Avatar doesn't have an 'out'. I do wonder how the first one came about.
I would also like to see a serious time jump like two or three hundred years in the future where bending is for the most part pointless. This show is going to touch upon that but bending still has a purpose in Republic City. I would like one where pretty much nobody uses bending. So something even closer to modern times.

So! The weapon we know the Equalists use are shock sticks and terror tactics and judging by one of the earlier trailers super badass martial arts. I'm still wondering what the ultimate plan is though, because without some kind of spiritual superweapon or mass weaponisation, I can't see any hold Amon gets on the city lasting. He needs to bring down a complete paradigm shift in some way or another else benders will always be superior.
i can see a trilogy of the show being:
1 (avatar). bending is the cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems
2 (korra). there's merit to non-bending, and benders will have to adapt in a changing world
3. benders are no longer necessary, and the remnants of an ancient society. the avatar is no longer important to keeping the world together. doing the, 'but we need to be in touch with the elements!!!' thing is really overdone though, and it would be hard to do it justice. but maybe if it's treated more like the force in star wars episode iv, it wouldn't be so bad.
although if korra is successful, i think they might do the first avatar first, if they ever do a follow-up to korra that moves the era forward, since if they were to set it further in the future, i imagine it would be to end the series.
and that's all assuming korra isn't the planned end of the series anyway.
But it wouldn't be Mass Effect then.
