Witcher 2 for Xbox 360 'Enhanced Edition', 4+ hours bonus content, out April 17th

Wait Really? people had trouble with that boss? it's so easy.

Enough people had problems with the very beginning of the game to get the difficulty nerfed. It seems that a lot aren't very good at this game's combat system. I too found it, if not easy, then no more than a decent challenge.

Well I think there were some pacing issues with the tutorial area and the game didn't do the greatest job of letting you know what you had available, at least when it launched. By the time you get to that boss you should understand what you're doing and I don't remember anything being bugged or weird about the fight.

I'll buy it again for 360 most likely, my PC has some overheating issues so I can't replay it there unfortunately. Oh well, CDPR deserves the money Let's hope they've improved Chapter III in this version, at launch (don't know if they added some quests with later patches) it was pretty barren and felt rushed as hell.

Honestly I was thinking the same thing. The PC version raises my GPU to over 100C, but I might just get a new rig this year instead. My current one's on its fifth year.

Anyway, hope you guys don't hate this I cooked up tonight:

Performance wise how will this play on the 360?

Have their been hands on previews by the media, or any direct gameplay videos as of yet.

There was a direct feed vid on just the last page. It seems to run fine, and impressions to that have been good.

Any PC bros play a decent amount of this on a gamepad? Really the only difference I can think of gameplay-wise that has potential to lessen the experience if I grab it for 360. I've heard before that it worked pretty well, though.

Yeah, and I went into Gamestop the other day to see if I could put a few down on the Dark Edition, but the store wasn't actually getting any. It's looking like it's going to be EXTREMELY limited. They did have the regular edition in the machines though, and were advertising it pretty heavily, which was surprising and pretty cool to see. I'm going to keep hunting for the DE for now, myself.
Really? Shit man. Ah well, I guess I'll just pull the trigger on the $60 version. Still a decent package all things considered.

I played it from start to beginning with a gamepad, since it seemed built for that. Thought the UI was ok, had worse. The inventory was a bit fiddly perhaps.

Again, a lot of the issues had little to do with the combat system, but how the encounter was designed. It took me four times longer than
Letho, and Letho's only major issue is his ability to chain cast Quen randomly.

Every other encounter hasn't given me difficultly. A lot of the way the game is tuned is combat mastery trumps encounter design and the encounters stay roughly at a static difficulty through most of what I've played, so the mid game is easier because of the power increases. I feel that this makes it so that once you get good at the game it doesn't really end up being hard for a long while. I think I died like 4 times in Chapter 2 because I was really lazy and impatient but I died like 50 in Chapter 1, primarily from bosses.

Maybe the way I approached that boss was wrong, or you guys had something else from a choice made to make it way easier, but I can compile the list of problems that were all from design end into a short spoiler.

The hardest part was mostly realizing that it's NOT like every game I've played recently. It actually requires premeditation and strategy. It was pretty smooth sailing until that certain boss fight after that. The tutorial also isn't that great IMO and a lot of in game information isn't very clear sometimes. I started playing after the 2.0 patch.

Like overall there's just a lot of things that are rough around the edges, it's still a stellar game and there's just a few oddities that stand out in my mind. I put up with that fight which I had massive problems with because the game was otherwise really good.

As much as I'm being critical, this was probably my game of 2011.

So yesterday I deleted my save game from v2.0 and I'm ready for the EE.
I just finished Flotsam (around 5 hrs all together) so not that big of a loss.
IMHO, better to start fresh.

I haven't played TW2 with a keyboard & mouse at all. UI-wise it basically feels like a console game, albeit with a few complications in the equip screen.

I played it with both. It plays far better with mouse & keyboard, despise few people here and there claiming the opposite.

Plays great with a gamepad. The inventory and other menu screens are the only places that are significantly better on mouse and keyboard and the updated interface will hopefully improve the situation.

My body is so ready.

For what I've read this is the game I've been waiting for since my childhood: dark fantasy mature adventure game with goood but not staggering amounts of RPG elements relevant decisions inyriguing storyline with responsive and agile combat system.

It's like a dream come true.

but you spend a lot of time there.

I certainly want to play this with a gamepad on my third playthrough.

This is definitely Day 1 for me. Hell, I'm kinda sleepwalking through Mass 3 but need to have it done by the time this comes out. If Dragon's Dogma gets good reviews too then my spring/summer's pretty much done, (single player) gaming-wise.

Most of the loot in this game is worthless, you won't need to spend that much time in the inventory. If anything I spent more time reading the codex-like entries than doing any other menu related activity.

Any deals on the PC edition on this game? I would like to buy this for PC in order to comfy-couch it on the HTPC when the enhanced edition comes out.

Yeah, the regular edition is still a great package, but that huge artbook in the DE... I'm a huge sucker for those, lol.

So, it runs, on the 360, the visual equivalent of the PC's medium, and they finally show a few new areas. It's looking really good.

Is the Dark Edition XBox 360 only or will it be available for PC as well?

The game content of the Extended Edition will be available to PC users for free the day the 360 release comes out. All the extra kit--artbook, keychain, etc--will only be available at retail, though I imagine much of it is repeat if you bought the PC LE.

You won't spend that much time there, if you know what you're doing.

basically every player who plays a game for the first time knows what he/she is doing.

crafting

so now that GAME is bust in the UK, you think Namco will shift the stock of Dark Edition (GAME exclusive in the UK) to other stores (same as EA did with ME3 CE)?

Well then you misunderstood me, or I was too vague about it. I meant that if you know how the items work, how you should manage them, and all that stuff, you really won't spend more than an hour of total playtime there.

totally disagree, I used it a lot. Depends on your playstyle.

Yep. Traps and especially bombs were very helpful against mobs of enemies. I can't imagine taking on that Nekker lair without them. They're not absolutely essential (if you're playing on easy or normal), but it's definitely worthwhile to craft. I don't remember if I bothered crafting swords, though.

I crafted a lot of swords and equipment because I was too poor to afford them. The most powerful armor in the game can be only crafted too. Also bombs - these are alchemy and I believe they are not as shitty with a gamepad as the general inventory. I scrolled a lot through materials and ingredients I had. I had to choose which I keep, which I sell and estimate how many units I need to gather to craft an item. I definitely spent more than an hour there. I don't remember for sure if traps are crafted in the general inventory.

I hope so, all the best items in the game were obtained through crafting.

They weren't necessary on hard either. I got through the game using signs and the all powerful roll (leveled up of course) on all difficulties normal and higher, excluding that perma-death mode because even though I may not die often I'm not risking that much lol. I think the only time I used them were to do the Nekker quest, to seal the lairs. Though I can't remember if I crafted them or just bought them outright. I did use traps every now and then if they were given to me or if I found them though.

edit: I should add that I'm not intending to brag, I don't feel that awesome at least. I was just saying that the inventory and crafting in that game was relatively useless if you abuse signs and rolling.

People complaining about the difficulty of og release were pussys. The handholding we are so accustomed to through the past 2 generation has killed any critical thinking we used to have when playing video games.

Not every game needs to be created the valve way. Learning how to do things yourself is immensely satisfying especially in the witcher 2 when you the combat finally clicks and you can start assaulting enemies from every which way.

That said, it will almost be like playing a new games when i come back to this in april. The played through the non patched first release once.

as i looked chapter 2 plains before kedwen camp most of bushes are cut out.

Technical aspect of graphic and art is one thing but IQ is what made Witcher 2 trully a something to behold:

it wasn't the difficulty, it was the reverse curve imo. Shit starts out hard, and becomes super easy by the end.

And no1 should ever have QTE's in which if you fail, you restart the whole boss fight....

Really? Interesting. Well, I'm sure it'll work well enough in the end. In CDPR I trust. Gonna order it from Amazon tonight. Can't wait for the 17th!
