I would laugh, if it wasn't for the fact that many people agree with what those racists are saying.
You don't have to be a hood wearing, cross burning klansman to harbor, even subconsciously, bigoted or racist perceptions of people.
The problem is that the "scary black man" stereotype has been so ingrained in world culture, that people (of all races, mind you), have begun to take it as true, and any attempts to correct that perception are just blacks "rattling the cages" to stir shit up.
The lack of empathy when it comes to understanding why blacks get so upset over the constant, unceasing labeling of our entire race and culture is what is truly sad to me.
I hate that certain groups have allowed the racial aspect of Trayvon Martin's death overshadow the true issue here: an innocent teenager was stalked and gunned down in cold blood for walking down the street at night.
There IS a major problem with racism in this country, however, and it's about time that all of us, black, white, asian, latin, etc, start to open dialogue and address it. Sticking our heads in the sand, or hiding behind political correctness isn't the way to go about getting past this almost second nature mistrust of one another. All thwt does is breed resentment and apathy towards one another, as demonstated by many a post in this very thread, as well as other forums across the net.

The Republican candidates initially made reasonable statements about this. Now that the "Trayvon was a thug who deserved to die" narrative appears dominant on the Right, I wonder if they will be taking a different tone.
As far as we know Martin's only motivation was to get home in time for the second half of the NBA all-star game. So it would absolutely make no sense for Trayvon to seek out a confrontation.
But he was black, so naturally he wanted to kill a man he'd never met before with his bare hands just for following him. /sarcasm

The race of this kid is directly what caused this entire incident in the first place. Just stop pretending like it isn't. We was fucking profiled as some thug on drugs, period. Race is very much a factor in this.

What I was talking about is people throwing out the racial hypotheticals about what could have happened in other scenarios. They're ridiculous.
Situations occur in our society where people get away with things they shouldn't. Even when the victim is *cue dramatic music* WHITE.
I know that goes against the story some people wish to keep pushing, but I'd be happy to provide examples. I live near Chicago, and this story has been in the news a bit over the past few years.

The Mayor of Chicago had a nephew who punched a guy outside a bar. The victim ended up dying from brain injuries. The Chicago cops very casually investigated the situation, and never ended up charging Daley's nephew, even though everyone knew he was the guy who threw the punch.
This doesn't make Trayvon's story any less horrible, but to suggest the only reason George Zimmerman wasn't charged was because of Travyon's race is just a totally unsubstantiated claim. Zimmerman's father being a former judge is far more likely to be the reason behind his going free to this point.

Unsubstantiated? No, the reason this is so upsetting to black people (and people who understand things like precedent) is because it IS a racial issue. Zimmerman's father being a judge likely played a role in this, yes. But there are issues in Florida, and specifically Sanford that show that it's a bit more likely that this wasn't just the police bungling this up.
To my previous point, this is why the situation is so frustrating. People are so quick to pull out other scenarios that don't have anything to do with this specific incident in an attempt to pull it away from the larger issue.

And even clean cut, fishing, horse riding, plane flying, ones are still up for debate if he is any bit a urban teen. And yep, there are pics out there of Trayvon doing all those things listed above.

Nothing about the events that led up to his death make it right, and I'd be here just as I am now wondering why the hell a human can be killed, with such questionable sets of circumstances, and have an attempt to sweep it under the rug in 2012.

If Trayvon was white I don't believe Zimmerman would've went after him. I definitely think it was a factor that led to his death, and the way the media is portraying all this makes it clear as day that there's still a huge race issue when it comes to stuff like this. It isn't fabricated there are race links unfortunately.
