Nah, life comes with a price tag on it... some life is worth more than others... suckle on that nugget of wisdom... suckle it...
Security officers have their own levels.
The ones that make just above minimum wage don't really carry guns...
The ones making a lot more, are usually guarding armored bank trucks... those guys are packing heat...
Apartment security? Well I guess it's different up North where I'm from, they may carry non-lethal weapons, even then it's rare.... and they at most question the owners of the vehicles and if they don't comply they call the police....
Who should make that judgement call? The guy with the gun?
For the record, I'm in favor of civilian gun ownership, but also in favor of the utmost restraint in actually using them.
The problem stems from having wannabe cops that couldn't make it in or qualify for the police academy. They end up as security officers thinking they have powers like the police.
As for people asking why these security guards have guns, it just depends on the level of certification a company wants to hire a security guards for what their needs are. Some guards are qualified to carry while others not. Obviously, these guys didn't use the best judgement in this situation.
I was kidding, I don't place value on life... ever...
In an unfortunate situation where lethal force comes into the picture, I sure as shit will do my best to exhaust ever way to diffuse the situation. First being to leave before any altercation occurs.
I'm not sure how much one needs to own a gun but I am in favour of a competent, psychologically sound citizen being allowed to exercise such a right. Are the guns always getting to the right hands? That is another discussion entirely.
I wouldn't own a gun myself. I don't need one.

Okay, I didn't mean to be accusatory. I just know that the topic comes up in other threads about firearm deaths, and sometimes involves people dismissing those killed as worthless and deserving of death regardless. That line of thinking kind of scares me, and my inability of handle it is probably why I may never choose to own a gun myself.
Gun rights are some of the greatest freedoms Americans have.
Too bad Americans are too stupid to be trusted with them sometimes.
Yes, the freedom to kill other people, and the freedom to be killed. Sure sounds like freedom to me.
Since when do security guards carry guns?
No matter how much government you enact, death and murder will occur. Gun ownership is the most important personal power of self defense that nulls physical strength.
And that has nothing at all to do with "freedom".
As someone who is 5'1 I can definitely understand the appeal of having something to combat against physical superiority. I also thinks that guns are far, far too powerful. You should be able to disable someone from attacking you, you should not be able to murder them. Giving people guns for defence means that you are also inadvertently giving people guns to attack with, and increase the chances of nutters getting hold of weapons. I have a right to feel safe in my community, and knowing that there are a bunch of paranoid gun-carriers in it does not make me feel safe at all.

.There is a typo in the title
When you live in a dense society, especially a city, you have to deal with potential social unrest with every social reaction. The potential for a crazy to get a hold of a gun and floor a building is not unheard of, but statistically it is not existent. There are more deaths due to knife conflict than there are gun conflict. In fact, when people tried to relate the increase in gun ownership with an increase in crime, they found no correlation.
Your fear of gun owners is no different that the fear of child molesters and the fear of alleyway muggers. Both crimes happen, but there isn't a mugger or molestor in every dark alley.
Since when is killing someone not a criminal offense?
Gun rights aren't the issue, but some people don't deserve gun rights...On another note: Gun rights aren't an issue themselves. There should be some greater restriction on who can hold one and such since obviously not everyone is capable to be in possession of arms.
Since when is killing someone not a criminal offense?
Why in the world do private security guards all pack guns nowadays? Such an obviously stupid thing. They should have low-grade non-lethal weapons at most.
What is this from?
See, gun rights made perfect sense when the American Constitution was drafted, with many settlements and farms far away from civilization or law enforcement agencies. IT MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE to keep it right now, with police forces available for assistance almost everywhere.
By all means, continue to preach "freedom", I in the meantime will not move to US out of fear that my kids will encounter some gun-wielding nut job on the way from school.
give them hammers. if they are going to do something stupid then at least they have to dirty their hands instead of killing somebody in a second with a gun.Why in the world do private security guards all pack guns nowadays? I've read a couple of articles about this. It seems like the guards said the guy was trying to run them down with his car as if it were a weapon. No doubt to justify their self defense position. But I have to wonder...if the guards had the presence of mind to pull their guns and shoot, why didn't they have the presence of mind to jump out of the way?
Yes that's why 95% of them are unarmed. Why is anyone surprised security guards are packing heat?
They have the most valuable job in America: Protecting a corporation's assets.
