The designer of Metal Grudge is at it again:

The tank from Ghost in the Shell. You simply have to see it in action, it's far better than you probably think it is:

This really is outstanding. Saw the video a few days after I saw him appeal for dust cart hulls. Now at least I know what he wanted them for. It's amazin that it has so much articulation too.

Did the build three minifigures at the Lego store. I made the engineer with glasses, my wife made the ax-murdering gymnast and my son helped make the fire chief.

I also got another series 6 skater girl, I thought she was a statue of liberty.

Bought the Mini Modulars today. Yeah I know I said I wouldn't buy anything too big, but seeing them in person was the tipping point. 10% off + £15 worth of VIP points meant I got it for a good price. Also got to build a free minifig for entering their Easter competition (which runs until the 8th April). Oddly enough the minifig bin had parts for the Disco Stu and Mime collectable minifigs.

Don't treat it like a big set, treat it like five really nice sets for a tenner each

Best way to look at it. I have no ordered the mini modulars yet, but plan to before the end of the year. I want to get the last two in print modulars before I do it.

Seriously thinking of doing my insane idea of doing a simultaneous build of Town Hall and Fire Brigade. Maybe in the next couple of weeks. Take this week to disassemble and sort the pieces together, then set aside a few days to shoot a time lapse of the simultaneous build.

My birthday was a few days ago, so I got me a new set (#5770):

As a gift, I was surprised with an oldie (#50):

I still haven't checked if it's missing any of the original pieces, but the box came with an excess of bricks...and I found out that #664 was almost complete there!

The only pieces missing are the doors, need to track them down.

Started the disassembly and sorting of Fire Brigade. Top two floors are dismantled. Will do the ground floor tomorrow. Then Tuesday I will disassemble Town Hall. Wednesday I will probably start on the time lapse video of the double build of the two.

Anyone know when the avengers sets are due out? I'm selling off all my sets, boxes and spares of series 6 minifigures to fund the next series, town hall and avengers sets but I wanna try and buy them from one seller in one hit to save on postage but I don't know how long I have to wait for the marvel sets

The Avengers sets are driving me nuts. They were in stock on walmart.com for a few minutes last week, and I managed to grab one of the three I want. Gone completely from their site now and nowhere in stores.

Strangely, if I do a Google shopping search for the Quinjet set, it comes up on ToysRus - but if you go to ToysRus.com and search for it, no results.

Of course, being TRU, it's $10 above retail. I'll wait for another store to get it in stock.

Does anybody have any experience with UCS TIE FIGHTER ADVANCED (10175)? I have a strange compulsion to buy this before it gets too expensive.

Anybody know if it is minifig scale?

I know the lack of Darth Vader minifig was an issue with some people......I don't care about that too much.

Cross-posted in the April Pick-Up thread. I know it's not Lego, but I feel LegoGAF would most appreciate it. :)

My Japanese import (first thing I've imported since IIDX Distored LE on PS2, haha).

I know, I know. No fancy stop motion movie, no UCS goodness.
But hey, I'm happy and want to share :)

I finally got around to gettting the Falcon!

WiP shots, bag by bag:

A question, though:

I plan on getting all the "current-style" ships from the original trilogy. I'd say that would be from 2010 onward. (So, 8097 Slave I, 7965 Falcon, 9492 TIE-Fighter, 9493 X-Wing, 9495 Y-Wing) I'm kinda not sure about 8017 Vader's TIE-Fighter, from 2009. It kinda looks in-between styles. What do you say, LEGO GAF?

good luck with your no instructions!

that was the biggest surprise when I bought the mono set. Was looking forward to building the little boat, then I realised they are just 'suggestions' and its just a box of bricks.

Still, now you can find a few instructions online for the smaller sets and use those

I think it looks poor in comparison to the current TIE, so I'd skip it and fingers crossed on a new one. Or make your own in the style of the new TIE.

Is there a 'current style' Star Destroyer? I've seen the MIDI one but that seems a little small, I'd prefer something more Falcon sized.

That boat was the one thing on that box I wanted to build, too! I realized the no instructions when I got them last week and was also a bit miffed, haha. The set on the bottom right (kind of the starter box) has instructions for all the models pictured on the box (front, back, sides), so that's pretty rad.

But that boat! :|

Built my first modular yesterday, Grand Emporium. So much fun. My girlfriend built most of the third floor for me.

I can't wait for my Fire Brigade to arrive now. Stinks though, that both sets will sit in my closet until I can get a proper display shelf for my nerd-cave (which was my SO's idea).

6211 maybe?

I plan to get this modular building and this one only in the future. My favourite one of the collection.

Avengers sets are supposedly going to be available starting April 8th.

You say it will be your only one now, but once you build it you will want another building, then another.

And those with Brickly: I want one just to have it on Tower Bridge. Looks like it would work well there.

Yep...

On the plus side, these bigger - more expensive sets - seem to be a great way to build a good collection of bricks. After I pick up the Town Hall and Pet Shop down the line, I can see myself having a good variety of bricks to build MOC modulars (without having to buy too many bricks on their own).

Price per piece goes down as the set gets larger, so yes, it IS a great way to build your collection of bricks! :)

The bit that annoys me about that is that if I do want the others, e.g. the fire station, they'll be long gone before I get the chance to get them! I wish they'd keep the modulars going indefinitely!

Have Lego stores stopped selling Series 6 minifigures yet? Going to head down in the next few weeks, and get them to pick me out the last 4 I want!

I meant to include a caveat - Star Wars sets tend to be the exception to the rule.

Sometimes. The Imperial Shuttle and the upcoming R2D2 are well priced with the number of pieces you get. Even the newest Millenium Falcon is just a hair over $.10 a brick.

The SSD is the only big set that is ridiculously over the barrier.

That is why I went with Fire Brigade first. Get the one that is about to disappear first to get a taste, even if Grand Emporium was the one I really wanted first.

I think I love Bricklink, without it I wouldn't be staring at this awesome evil dwarf minifig. Ordered a used but complete set from Indiana Jones (motorcycle chase) for a good price on there just because who in their right mind wouldn't want a motorcycle and sidecar with Indiana Jones and Sean Connery mnifigs...I mean who?

Also dangerously tempted to go out and buy the Millennium Falcon....someone please stop me!

The non-UCS Millennium Falcon? Bush league. Go buy the MEGA FALCON. ;)

Tempted to buy the Emerald Night Train. It looks amazing. But I don't have any tracks or other trains....

ex_emerald_night.jpg

You don't buy the Emerald Night to place it on tracks. You buy tracks to place them under the Emerald Night.

I'd so buy this if I had the chance to, but aside from internet phantasy pricing, this will never happen ^^

Man, I still have my Death Star half-assembled on the kitchen table. I refuse to work on it unless I have over an hour and I haven't had any time with all that's going on in my life. I also have the UCS Obi Wan's Jedi Starfighter sealed and under my bed. That will be next whenever I eventually finish the DS.

Sucks!

It looks so amazing. Realistically, you'd need that set, some straight and curved tracks, mid-sized PF motor and a battery box for a full working model. I have that set unopened, and I'm itching to start building it, but all my motors are used up with other things right now.

sunny day, so took my ucs building outside...

ucs1.jpg

not that far in, but I can already see how a bunch of my color substitutions will be hidden. All of the right angled technic pieces that are expensive as shit in yellow were replaced with a cheaper black, and it makes no difference. I assume Lego only made them yellow for an easier build or whatever.

Also that random single red plate in the back is supposed to be dark red, but who cares if it's only going there. It's like a $4.50 difference in price.

Not that I'm anywhere close to buying all the pieces for a UCS Falcon build, but I was just thinking that building a Falcon in a different color scheme would probably look pretty cool. Black hull with yellow highlights or something like that. I'm guessing that might not be possible because some of the more unique pieces may not be found in a desired color though?

It amazes me how much you can save on custom building sets when you just look into it and make some educated decisions on what you're working with. When I built the dragon, I substituted every 2x8 green brick for 2~2x4 green bricks and saved a LOT of money. The same thing goes for things like your build and some of the modulars...Special pieces/colors can be substituted with no impact on the final product and will save a good chunk!

Good call, and that build looks fantastic so far! I love pictures of the framework and skeleton-builds.

All right, if it's not too late, I want to go ahead and get the Fire Brigade. I see it's in stock for $200 on Amazon via a reseller, but if possible I would like to order off of LEGO.com for $150 and just get the delivery whenever. Is that a safe order at the moment, and are there any tricks or discount things I need to remember? I know Toys R Us has buy 1 get 1 50% or whatever, which would be awesome, but fire brigade is only in store and I highly doubt my local store has it.

Just use your VIP points and get it while you still can. TRU BOGO deals are WAY too risky to work with for a set like FB.
