Guild Wars 2 Press Beta [Prepurchase Is Live]

What really scares me about this, is how are they controlling inventory? With ArenaNet saying how sparse the CE will be, I could see GS easily taking everyone's money with pleasure, then come launch day, they won't get the appropriate amount to cover pre-orders.

I know, maybe a little "conspiracy theory" or tin foil hat, but I just don't trust GS at all.

As much as I want that statue, I'm going directly through ArenaNet with the DD version x 2.

It's true, when I went to GS and asked them about it they didn't have an idea of how many they were going to receive but told me I was the only one so i'm hoping they'll get at least one haha.

That reminds me, I need to pre-order it too. Too be honest I haven't been paying attention to the news lately. My strategy so far is to focus on other things, that way I hopefully won't notice time flying by as well as being able to go in relatively fresh like I did with Guild Wars.

Nah, no tin foil hat needed, that's something Gamestop is actually notorious for. That and opening shit and trying to sell it as "New", especially if there's some kind of in-package flyer or something they don't like.

I'm hoping I got in early enough and there won't be enough interest in my area that I'll be fine. If they did over-reserve and I end up getting the shaft... well... It's not like I could shop at Gamestop any less than I already do, so there's nothing I can threaten them with.

I'm fairly lucky that the last time I picked up a few games, no packages were opened and the manager was working at that time. Here's hoping to another chance that they won't be opening up the CE this time and taking stuff out.

Expect it tomorrow morning. I'm putting in some extra editing work to make it what I hope to be an easier listen. Plus this is done only in my free time so I couldn't start on it right away.

ahh ok thanks...loved the last one and looking forward to hearing this one as well :-)

I posted this elsewhere, but it seems relevant here too:

Here's my educated guess as to the release schedule:

April 20th - BWE #1 / CBT #4
May 18th - BWE #2 / CBT #5
June 15th - BWE #3 / CBT #6
June 26th - Release (Headstart on Saturday the 23rd)

I could be off, but these seems to follow consistent to all information we have at this point.

And low and behold, a day after I said that, GameStop and other various retailers have now pegged June 26th as the release date.

I hope you're right, as my Memorial Day weekend prediction is looking more and more unlikely. Regardless, any release date that isn't "Now" is just too long of a wait for my tastes.

I'd bet a few gems on the release date being announced on April 10th, too ;)

At this point, I think everyone agrees that not getting a launch date (or even a launch window) on or near the 10th would be a PR disaster for Guild Wars 2. Anyone betting against you on this is throwing gems away.

Not sure how large of a PR "disaster" it would be, but I totally agree that it would be a very odd for them to dive headlong into their pre-purchase program and still have no target date/window for launch.

It's kinda like saying, "We're so close to the release of this game, we have no problems having you pay full for it! Alright, thanks for your money, now we'll tell you when the game is going to be released in another 4 to 6 months."

That just doesn't make sense.

They almost have to tell us a launch window/date when pre-purchases goes live.

im with you on this and i also think PewPewK is on to something with his BWE and release schedule

Dunno if this was posted, but here's our pre-purchase boxes.

o_0 where is this from?!?! Explain yourself or its off with your head!!!!!

I think that's a preorder box sent by a 3rd party retailer. I know mine is in the mail and will arrive tomorrow.

Btw heads up if you're Finnish, you can prepurchase through Verkkokauppa.com - even though it's not on that list of preorder retailers in the wiki. They have CE up for 119€ including shipping :p

Yeah, mine arrived already. Bit disappointed it's just bland; I really liked the sturdy cases and thick manuals that came with the original expansions, even the factions pre-order dvd case had more content.

Still, I can't wait for the beta and am currently trying to get 2 more HoM points to make it thirty for all the items.

But this isn't the final release box, it's just for pre-purchases.

Of course, I wouldn't be too terribly surprised if they went with a very minimalist box on release as well.

Those boxes seem to be from Europe, and that's all Europe gets if prepurchased. They don't get a retail box at release for the standard edition, unlike NA.

Exactly. That box is the only thing I'm getting, but I think I'll manage to get a retail box later on :)

Alright, this is strange. I preordered my prepurchase at GameMania (a Dutch retailer). I checked the site and Guild Wars 2 isn't on the site anymore, it even dissapeared from my pre-order tab. I checked bol.com, no more Guild Wars 2 anywhere on the site. I checked Wehkamp, no more Guild Wars 2.

Huh.

Edit: One site says that NC Soft asked multiple sites to respect the release date of 10-04-2012 and that the pre-purchase will be visible again on that date. I still have no idea why that means you can't pre-order the pre-purchase though...

Podcast time!

Episode 2: Pre-Pre-Purchase

Featured in this episode:

- Retro gets older
- I become the bad cop without speaking at all
- Awkward pauses
- 60+ minutes of no news
- Ferny saves the day and talks about the guild

Enjoy!

The Youtube version will be uploaded When It's Ready.

My new headphones are arriving today so expect me to be back on next week.

Yeah, this episode had some awkward silences because some people walked in on Kayos and after that, he had to change rooms and his wireless acted up. We didn't have quite so much interesting to talk about so we kind of just disseminate info on the Pre-purchase, etc. Also, we stopped and started quite a bit.

Ugh, so many pops and weird volume drops on my end, this is what comes of having a shitty old mic. I'm getting a new mic for my birthday (thanks Arken) that will arrive before we do another Podcast.

Also, I find it funny that we can fill an hour without anyone actually playing the game for more than a weekend. When we actually start getting into Beta events and such, soooo good.

Don't you get more days of early access if you pre-order though NCSoft rather than retail or has that been changed?

As long as it's a retailer participating in the pre-purchase event (i.e. listed on that wiki page), then you are technically 'pre-purchasing' and entitled to all the beta access and head starts.

Those listed as "CE" will also be offering pre-purchase of the Collector's Edition. Those who aren't listed may still carry the CE, but getting it at those retailers won't get you the full "Pre Purchase" benefits.

Don't you get more days of early access if you pre-order directly rather than retail or has that been changed?

Well if you check out those images posted earlier, inside the retail pre-purchase box it states that the included key will get you the full three days of early access.

I am really expecting ANet to do something this weekend. Either a release date announcement or show something new, or something. They have to do something to get the buzz up high right before the 10th.

Yeah. The wife just commented this morning, they will probably give us information before the 10th, as they will likely spend that entire day fielding questions, fixing any potential problems, etc.

The 10th is buzz enough as it is. I'd expect the release date to be revealed at an event like PAX. Just keep the game out of May please. :(

This. Also to be able to get the most sales on the 10th possible would a plus. Be able to boast a huge first day pre-sales number.

I originally thought they would do it at PAX also, but ANet shot that down. They only have two guys going to PAX and they are doing a panel and thats about it. The 10th was buzz when they revealed that date, but now after that's died down and the info stream from beta's has slowed they need something to spark it back up just before the day.

And even better, GW2 standard edition is just 37,40 euros! Thanks for the tip, bought.

I really think I gotta pre-order the collector's today. I have a disturbing feeling they're going to sell out before the 10th actually arrives.

I think that an actual release announcement would put even more consumers into a frenzy, creating a lot more buzz/pre-purchases. From a marketing stance, it's the perfect move.
Even though I have no frickin' idea about marketing! I blame Arken, Retro, Jira, and Maxrpg...Edit: grrrr, and Grizz!!
