So with the Fire Brigade going OOP what is taking it's place? Was Town Hall the replacement?

I think my next modular will have to be the pet shop. I think it will go well with my Grand Emporium.

You know (and this has nothing to do with the topic at hand), the UCS R2-D2 is growing on me. At first I didn't like how 'blocky' the head was, but now I'm starting to dig it - if it was smoothed off to look perfectly round, it might as well not be Lego. With this design, it still looks pretty cool - especially from a little bit of a distance - but is still definitely Lego.

Ya I like it but I agree with your first thoughts. Something about it just seems "eh" to me. For that price I would rather have another modular anyways. But still it is a cool model

Is the MSRP on the UCS R2 $150?

$180. I will be getting it on the 4th and put him next to my UCS Yoda.

Not very promising. I was at least hoping for something like, "we know which sets the fans want rereleased the most and we plan to update them and put out new even better versions."

The two coolest Star Wars ships (ISD & MF) need to be improved and released again :(

This guy is a goner.

Man I love those stills people do, it was one of the reasons I considered getting back into lego. I need to break my camera out and do some things like this.

Very nice of Jamie to weigh in on the issue. It sounds like they seriously did consider the possibility of a rerelease, which is a nice gesture to fans, but just didn't find it feasible. Unless it had a huge marketing push, I suppose a reissue of Cafe Corner might not do as well at regular retail sitting next to a set like Town Hall, with a full interior and bounty of minifigs. Disappointing, I'm sure, to anyone who wanted CC, but I guess for some it'll be the 'set that got away'.

Yes that was Town Hall.

I'm thinking about buying a second Fire Brigade set. Do you guys think prices will go up like they did with Green Grocer and CC? I'm not sure, because I see a lot of FB sets in stores.

I know a guy who owns a Lego store in a flea market...He's had it for years and has like 15 FB's stocked up for when they go OOP. Based on his experience with Lego prices, I'd say chances are high that it will go up. How much is hard to say, but if you drop $150 on it now, I would expect you to sell it for ~$250+ no problem.

They'll definitely go up, but I don't think you'll see huge inflation for FB for several years. The modulars seem to have caught on well at this point, so I'm guessing most fans have probably already grabbed it. Buying a backup now certainly can't hurt, almost all Lego gains some value after going OOP. But I don't think FB will ever reach CC price levels on the aftermarket. Just my hunch.

Just be warned that LEGO speculation is a very slippery slope. Before you know it you could be one of those guys with a storage locker and 20 of every set that speculators think will turn some good coin.

Personally, I despise hoarders, especially in toy markets, as you get some of these people lurking RFD and the like and stripping out store shelves whenever there is a bargain, in the hopes of an easy eBay flip, with the result being that other "normal" customers not being able to acquire something that they or their child would be purchasing for the purpose of enjoyment, not profit.

The current Skylanders trend is an example that really turns my stomach.

Yeah, but Lego doesn't really have that issue. If you want a set (when it's in production), you will no problem acquiring it. Skylanders, though, is different. :3

Not usually, but during some sales... I've personally seen a hoarder in TRU walk out with 15 of 10195 (a set for some that would only be feasible if it were on sale), leaving nothing behind. Watching him load up his carts made the blood boil.

Just my personal feelings on the matter.

Holy shit, what? I've never seen that, but that's complete shit. :\

Yeah thats insane.

I plan to buy only one additional set, to sell it next year and "fund" the next modular building.

Wow, that's truly terrible. And it seems these are the type of people who probably price their hoard at the very top of the market value, if not blowing it completely. This example also makes me glad that Lego usually puts a max limit on the # of identical sets you can buy in one transaction.

I've actually never bought a duplicate set before until FB. I grabbed it in hopes my mom might like it, and will hopefully give it to her this mother's day. She loves my Lego collection, so I figured I'd help her get started with her own.

Put in an order for the Earth Defense HQ, the tripod walker thing, and then a Cars duplo set for my g/f's nephew (will probably be *my* nephew before the year is out). heh

I'm having trouble deciding on what I want to make for my next big purchase. I really like the UCS shuttle, and the R2 unit comes out soon. But I've also got a couple of modulars now and really like how those go together, so I've been eyeing the Pet Shop and Town Hall too. Along with... a couple of the architecture sets like Falling Water and Robie House.

(Edit: Was interviewing for a couple of jobs and got a new one, so of course I need to reward myself [alien stuff doesn't count, just bought that since it was on sale.]) =P

The Pet Shop was one of my most enjoyable modular builds yet, more so than the Town Hall.

I love how the modulars have such a unique following. Some people DESPISE the Pet Shop, and ghostmind here loves it. I had beef with the Fire Brigade, but loved the GE. A good number of people praise the FB for being one of the best.

It's fun, haha. :)

Congrats on the new job! More money to feed the addiction haha

I'm new to this whole Lego thing, thanks in part to this thread and a friend of mine who posts in it.

Where's the best place for a Canadian to pre-order UCS Artoo? It's kinda grundling my jimmies and I want to get my name down on it.

Thanks everyone for recommending the Space Shuttle, great build. Stayed up way too late finishing it, but well worth it.

Only a couple minuses though
- Decal on the solar array was unwieldy, and I put it on crooked. Now it looks stupid :(
- The cargo bay doors don't shut very elegantly. Is this just me, or did others notice it hooking onto the side as well?

Noticed that. To be honest, what bothers me more is how fragile it is. My fuel tank literally fell apart in my hands about a month later.

I thought it was me being an imprecise builder. Glad I'm not alone. :)

The last model I built was the Imperial Shuttle, and the Space Shuttle is a solid piece of work compared to that thing.

What's up with Shuttles and fragility?

I'd say hold out and try to pick one up on ebay. Either that, or pick one up at a Lego store the next time you head south. If the MSRP will be $180, that means it's probably going to be $249.99 Canadian, so almost $300 with tax =/

I'm thinking about ordering Fire Brigade because it's goining OOP soon. What do you think, is it it safe to wait until end of April (when I get extra money) or should I order it immediately?

Unnnngh....That's hard man. If you're serious about buying it and you can afford it, you really should buy it sooner than later. There's no way of knowing when it's going to be OOP. The only thing we know is that it's soon. :P

Do you have the earlier shuttle? That had an issue with the fuel tank collapsing, there is a service pack you can get for free from lego which massively reinforces it.

Yeah, I know the Fire Station is going OOP soon, but I'm just not that sure about it. Well it looks really good, but I'd rather spend £130 on the Dept Store, than buying the FS now and later the DS, spend £230, and having one I love, and one I'm meh on. I would mainly be getting the FS because it's OOP soon to 'have them all', but it isn't like I'm going to get all the other OOP ones, so it's pretty pointless.

Get the FS, build it and have fun with it, sell it for double what you paid for it in a year after it's gone OOP, use funds to buy Department Store, profit!

Once I have Lego, I just can't sell it.
I'm going to still have all my Lego when I'm old and grey, I know it!

Speaking of old and grey, you guys need to give the Death Star a consideration before it goes OOP.

The build reminds me of building Lego castles back in the day. And once you're finished, the playability is insane, especially if you have Star Wars minifigs from other sets.

Bossk in the Throne Room? YES.

I've considered it, but I'm just not a huge fan of it as a display piece. I wish I could have gotten the previous version of it.

Well then, just purchased Fore Brigade from amazon.it, it's only €123 and shipping is cheap :)
What's the next modular going OOP?

I wasn't either. In fact, I was totally turned off by the design. It's pretty goofy and ugly.

But then I had a party at my house, and all my (male) friends kept hovering over my Lego ships - opening hatches, shooting missiles, plucking out minifigs and posing them. I realized it's going to be a great conversation piece and something almost everyone would appreciate. Then I got an 11-inch lazy susan to place it on so it's easily spinable, and now I'm really excited to show it off! Just gotta build the top floor.

Well, i caved-in and just bought - ordered my first Lego since... 2005, 2006? Not sure...
Ordered Luke's Landspeeder (8092) as a birthday gift for myself. It is a bit expensive (>30€) for it's size but it looks very nice and, well, nostalgia is nice in this case. I have the original Landspeeder set (or two) and it was among the first SW sets i had. In retrospect, it was rather inaccurate, this new one seems to be far better. And it is small enough that i can find space for it. Due to Easter, i'll be getting it, with some luck) for my birthday, or at least only a few days after it (13.4.).
Considered the Shuttle Expedition (10231) and Y-Wing (9495) but both are far more expensive and have some issues.
The Shuttle could use some "anti-aliasing", don't like how jagged the tailfin looks and of course i don't have space for it anywhere. Overall it looks very nice but... Maybe some other time.
The Y-Wing has more issues (though cheaper prise off-sets this). The canopy is wrong once again, the droid is sideways (i know why but still), the thing doesn't have proper landing gear... I figured Lego might make yet another Y-Wing set in ten years (Lego SW license expires in 2022) and hopefully, if they do it, it is finally more faithful to the film Y-Wing. (Should be a couple of studs wider and a few studs longer, with proper canopy and landing gear, and even better would be if it were S3 model which is two seater (pilot and gunner)).

I don't want ppl touching my legos. Fuck that.

Hate the Death Star design, played with one before, just too kiddy. I prefer the display items.
