So does anyone have anymore details on the whole Amazon thing? I'm surprised no one is talking about that seeing as no one wants to deal with Gamestop if they don't have to.

Which amazon thing is that? Gamestop is still the only retailer offering the CE with Pre-Purchase, unless I missed a tweet or something.

I talked about above how Amazon is already handling the difference between pre-order and pre-purchase, if that's what you meant.

Guild Wars 2 Pre-Order - Release Date June 30th (placeholder)
Guild Wars 2 Pre-Purchase - Release Date April 10th (when they ship you your pre-purchase box)

The CD Key included with pre-purchase is the only CD Key you'll need to activate to enjoy GW2 forever.

Yeah I actually just found those links myself. I guess we can assume there will be one of these for the NA in the next few days?

Canadian EB/Gamestop pulling a fast one. EB said they're sold out of the pre-orders for the pre-purchases (yes, you read that right, a reservation for a reservation). They started doing it on the 3rd and people in Canada are already fucked because Gamestop/EB didn't wait till the 10th. I should note this was for the CE.

Yeah I heard that. I don't trust GameStop, which is why the second they opened pre-orders for the CE, I ran down to my local GameStop and instantly put my full $161.61 down...

As paradoxical as that is.

Yeah, I went to my local Gamestop today and pre-ordered the CE. I'll go back on the 10th and pick it up, crossing my fingers they haven't taken more orders than they have.

well just finished the podcast...i know im late as hell lol...but awesome job once again to everyone in the podcast..i deff enjoyed it. cant wait for the next one :-)

I'm pretty dissapointed at the moment. I just checked my pings in GW1 and am getting pings of around 300-500 in Australia, which means that if they're using the same servers we are going to have a colossal disadvantage in WvWvW and other PvP aspects of the game.

When I first started playing GW1, I noticed my ping always said it was quite high, but I never experienced any actual latency issues. I just logged into Kamadan as it's the most populated area in GW1. I live in California and ANet's servers are in Seattle. My average ping is bit over 200. When asked about this, ANet has mentioned that the ping shown on the indicator is not your actual ping. Also, GW2 does not use the same servers as GW1. In short, the ping you see in GW1 isn't indicative of your actual ping nor does it mean anything in regards to GW2.

Still nothing on Amazon.co.uk. Does anyone know if Amazon.de ship to UK? Euro price is a lot better then the UK price.

The French Amazon site put up the same thing the German one had, so I have no doubt the UK and NA will see it in the coming days.

Nah, no tin foil hat needed, that's something Gamestop is actually notorious for. That and opening shit and trying to sell it as "New", especially if there's some kind of in-package flyer or something they don't like.

I'm hoping I got in early enough and there won't be enough interest in my area that I'll be fine. If they did over-reserve and I end up getting the shaft... well... It's not like I could shop at Gamestop any less than I already do, so there's nothing I can threaten them with.

They tried selling me my friends copy (I bought it for him) Kingdoms of Amalur on the PS3 that way. They put the disk in right in front of me and expected me to be okay with it. I only use them because they let me pay over a period of time, so that when I game is released, it is already paid off due to my layaway approach to games.

If they would use some sort of default display case instead of gutting one copy of the game for a display case, then no one would run into this problem. Is it that publishers cant provide them with some sort of display cases, or is it something that neither side is really worried about?

I would assume so as Amazon.co.uk does ship to Germany. That would be the first time I heard about Amazon.de being cheaper, though.

I import from Amazon.co.uk on a regular basis, because in spite of the shipping cost it saves me a lot of money. Shipping should be at least 5€. So I am not sure if that is going to be worth it for you.

But there are latency issues in an MMO with a large ping. They're just not as noticeable as say playing on FPS server (such as me playing on the TF2 GAF server) where the ping is a rough 200 and it will seriously affect your ability to play. All you have to do for an MMO is hook up two different accounts side-by-side and visually see the lag between your own personal actions vs your personal actions seen by another player. Of course this may also be affected by your upload bandwidth.

Will it affect PVE and PVP skills and ability output timing? If a server is going to be 12,000km away from your connection, then most assuredly. Is it going to affect the actual components of being able to play the game without disruptions? No.

Hopefully ArenaNet will iron out connection issues for Oceanic players throughout the game's lifespan. It's the least they can do after hashing out a weak statement regarding Oceanic servers with "get excited! we've got local patch servers for you guys! hooray!"

I just checked and I think amazon.de is £5 cheaper in this case. The rrp for the standard edition in the UK is £50 and €55 on amazon.de (inc €6 shipping) which converts to around £45. Not really worth it for £5 to be honest, but still sucks how the UK are having to pay so much more than anyone else for a digital download.

Yeah, that's such a shitty policy. If I'm putting down $60 for something new, I expect it to be new, not "New" or "New-ish". I don't want a scuffed up case people have been pawing at and I don't want the mouth-breathers at Gamestop handling my disc and scratching it all up. And I don't want them picking through the inserts, whether they're junk or not. It's the principle of the thing.

If they would use some sort of default display case instead of gutting one copy of the game for a display case, then no one would run into this problem. Is it that publishers cant provide them with some sort of display cases, or is it something that neither side is really worried about?

Game companies hate Gamestop because they flip new games and collect all the profit. They'd never send empty cases or cardboard cases to help drive their sales. Billy trades in the latest Call of Duty after a week and they give him a pittance for it, then turn around and sell it for $5-10 bucks under the regular price. Slack-jaw idiots come in and only care about the price, so what would have been a new sale for the developer is now profits for Gamestop, and they didn't do anything but scam Billy.

Likewise, Gamestop doesn't give a fuck about whoever ends up with the gutted game and doesn't see the need to produce mockups or display cases.

Lose-lose situation for everyone. I can't say I'm looking forward to the next generation of consoles that are going to have CD Keys or DRM-like features to hinder Used Games sales, but I can't say I'd shed a tear for Gamestop (especially after it bought up and ruined places like Babagges and Funcoland). That's another lose-lose though.

Is there another round of closed beta going on?

Nothing has been announced yet. The general thinking here is that the next Beta will be open, for those who pre-purchase the game, and should occur sometime at the end of the month (We've heard the 20th thrown around).

Walked into GameStop, asked if I could preorder the GW2 CE. Dude says he has one preorder left, so I paid that sucker in full and out the door I went.

Good times.

Video version of the podcast is rendering right now. I'll let you know when it's up. If you haven't listened yet, wait for this one. Sorry it's taken me so long, I spent the time acquiring the skills necessary to include what I wanted to put in it.

Nice, this is what I was waiting for.

I tried to but couldnt help myself... Kayos and ferny tempted me with the forbidden fruit... Im so weak :'(

It's ok, you can just skip to the part with the added stuff. It's only a few minutes worth anyway. With what I've picked up on making audio and video content from doing this podcast, the rest of them should be churned out a lot faster.

Hey, you're doing it in your free time, take as long as you need. I'll definitely give it a second listen though, to see the new stuff you added. I hate hearing myself though, and my mic makes me sound like a derp.

I guarantee you'll laugh. I'll try not to spoil the surprise though. Skip to the part where we "take a break" if you don't want to sit through it all again. 61% rendered so far.

Whew, dodged a bullet there. Amazon.de increased the price of the CE by 16€ somewhere between the day before yesterday (=when I preordered) and today. Yay... I guess?

No beta access for me, but hey, I'm a sucker for Guildwars CEs. Have all of them, will continue to buy only CEs. It's a revered tradition I will hand down to my offspring.

I shall sit anxiously at the sidelines while y'all play the beta. Hrnnnng.

are there some ways to get a key now? I would love to try it, seems great.

They are having garunteed entry for those who pre-purchase on the 10th, but they have also said they will have other ways to get into the beta weekend events. I'm sure when they come up they will be posted in this thread.

Guess I'm going to GameStop since it is right across the street from me.

Same. I'll hit them up on my way home from work.

Take your time with it man, looking forward to it.
