Amazon DD Sales Thread

FYI, The Saboteur works fine on my AMD card (6850HD 1GB). After installing I ran the video configuration tool, fired it up, and all has been good on it so far (~90 minutes).

Saboteur blew me away at the 5 dollar price, I am so ashamed I missed out on giving pandemic full price when it came out :/. I lost 5 hours to this last night! There is also 360 pad support for it (which I didn't know) for those who like it.

Darkness 2 for 12 dollars was a delightful surprise, I only played the intro and it's so great it has a better intro than most movies. So graphic too, and when you hear the darkness speak for the first time: CHILLS.

"Jackie....."

Gonna be a great few weeks with these!

Bummer man, did you try contacting our CS group? Did you DL from us or from Steam? Are the forum posts you're reading indicating it is a problem when people DL from us specifically?

Let me know.

Cheers,
Tony

DL from ya'll. I'll mess around with it this weekend before giving up.

i think its a problem with all versions of the game and certain resolutions common to tvs.

It's a decent but no-frills port, if you have an Nvidia card. It's janked on ATI cards. Gamepad works well, if I remember correctly.

This thread is a little sad to me. All these great sales and half of the thread is "Does this register on Steam?". It makes my head hurt. Not to be an ass. I'd take a DRM-free version over stupid achievements any day.

lol cheevos.. like if people care for those :P
do they?

  • Steam Cloud
  • Defrag
  • Verify integrity of game cache
  • Easy backup utility
  • In game browser with all my friends on it :)

That's where the party's at..

As awesome as Paradox is for championing the strategy genre, they really need to put more resources into QC and polish. All of their games have a handful of people complaining about critical bugs and failures. I've even seen video reviews where they say the game "seems unfinished" even though it works fine for them. They are doing a lot to innovate the scene and I think their art teams are awesome, but if bugs and interface issues are common, it can't always be assumed to be gamers who aren't used to complex games.

We are constantly testing a ton of price structures and discount levels to see what works best. As we get more data you'll see changes to our promotional structure.

This kind of discount on an 8 week old title is pretty unheard of, we had to do a lot of pitching to make it happen. We'll do a big post-sale analysis and incorporate that into our future plans.

TLDR - if our customers vote with their wallet and show us that this kind of discount level this close to release is worth it we'll aggressively pursue them in the future :).

Cheers,
Tony

I was shocked at Darkness 2 being $12.49. Bought a copy myself, so hopefully this helps towards a trend for the future!

My 560 Ti couldn't handle The Saboteur maxed out without some really noticable framedrops. :(

I read that The Saboteur is just poorly optimized in general. Its not even the best looking game out there. It just runs poorly.

Its a good game though. I enjoyed it.

So is Victoria 2 from Amazon able to activate on Steam? I couldn't find anything denying it, so holding on to some hope still.

$4, and I've been interested in getting into a Paradox game for a while...but I need dat consolidation!! Steam or bust.

I'm pretty sure CKII was considerably less buggy on launch than their previous games...so they already are.

I have a 560 Ti and can run it maxed at 60 FPS with forced FXAA. Something's up with your system. What's your CPU?

Yeah, I can use FXAA with my Radeon and keep 60fps most of the time, but it drops when there's stuff going on. I have a 3.3GHz i5 2500k, too. (OC'd)

I see they haven't fixed the problem where you can't disable gift cards for digital purchases. There are times when I want to save my gift card credit for more expensive purchases. I guess I'll only get one game this sale then.

just preorder something to use up your gift card then buy what you want and cancel the preorder to get your gift card balance back

Did anyone else buy the ArmA2: combined operations pack?

I bought it assuming it activated on steam, it doesn't, not a big deal except:

I'm having trouble downloading ArmA2, Op Arrowhead worked fine but ArmA2 keeps failing to download.

While downloading, the amazon downloader will throw errors about corrupt files then retry and continue only to finish, start extracting and... throw an error about corrupt files, tell me to re download it and delete the files it already downloaded.

I've done this three times already over the course of 2 days. I just sent a CS email to amazon I was just wondering if anyone else was having similar problems.

Still contemplating on the Dragon Age pack.

I LOVED Dragon Age 1. Played it on 360 and bought most of the DLC.

I stayed away from DA2 because of all the train wreck word of mouth.

DA2 would be all I'm interested in and $10 is about the price I'd be willing to pay, just based on everything I've read. Is it even worth the $10? I won't lose any sleep if I pass on it. I've got a hefty backlog and won't get around to it anytime soon anyway.

Sure, it is worth ten, but I wouldn't worry about it if you have a decent backlog.

You will also get all of the DLC for 1, so if you missed anything you can look at it as paying even less for DA2. Different system, but I think things like the Golem DLC are standalone, so you wouldn't have to play through the whole game just to play them.

Hey Tony, the Majesty 2 Collection is still at normal price even though everything in it is on sale. It looks funny with the "Total Individual Price: $8.99 Bundle Price: $19.99"

If anything it would be worth it to play Origins on PC since the PC version is so much better than the console version plus you could use mods.

As for DA2...it really depends on why you enjoyed Origins. Its not completely awful but its aggressively mediocre with next to no connection to Origins storywise. Personally, I wouldn't say its worth the 30 hours or so it takes to finish the game. If you play the demo that'll likely give you a feel for the changes like the over the top combat and the dialogue wheel.

Great. Picked up Saboteur, it says 'loading' when I start it up, and it quits with no erorr message or anything. Can't find a fix online. Beyond disappointing.

So Darksiders was a 24 hour download on my crap ass connection... just finished and "The downloaded file was corrupted, click OK to return to Amazon to re download the file."=(

Never download steamworks games on amazon. Just put the key into steam and download it through there.

That happened to me with ME. They should really have a downloader with a better integrity check and have the option to re-download the corrupted portions.

Oh man, wish I would have known that yesterday. Downloading via steam now, thanks for the pro tip.

Edit: Steam says estimated 7 hours. So hopefully come morning it'll be ready to go!

Split/Second for $9 is mighty tempting... might get that, as well Space Marine and Shift 2.

Yeah this is a known feature ask that is on the roadmap. Not sure what the timeline is on it though.

Thanks for the heads up, not sure what happened there but I fixed it.

Agree. Redownloading The Witcher EE 12GB three times was so much fun.

Sorry you guys are having issues with downloading directly from us. I'd be interested in knowing more about your connections/configurations/locations so I can pass the feedback on to our engineering team. I start getting little red exclamation point emails in my inbox telling me to take product off sale if we start seeing >1% contacts on a specific product.

If any of you have the time and inclination I'd love it if you PMed me with:

1. The error/problem you got/had and the title you had it with
2. Your OS
3. Your ISP
4. Which U.S. State you're in

Thanks and sorry again for the issues!

Cheers,
Tony

I'll never understand the whole "Steam or bust" mentality. One positive everyone spouts off about the PC platform is how open it is... Yet they won't buy a game unless it's from their favorite store. Steam is my default platform, too, but i dont heaitate to buy games from where ever has the best deals at the time. Keeping up with where they're all bought from isn't difficult.

wow I am really impressed with darkness 2, its a steal for this price

had I known how good it is I wouldnt have minded paying more for it.

Same thing that happened to me, with the same exact game too (I'm assuming you meant Mass Effect 1 and not Mirror's Edge). I eventually had to go through all of Origin's bullshit to get it put on my list so I could actually play it.

That's like saying "Gaf said" when in reality only like 5 people said that. I for one don't care about the openness of the PC platform and prefer everything on Steam. It's not like Steam is Apple though, it's still plenty open for developers who can patch for free anytime they want or people can upload Skyrim mods anytime they want. I think the only rule there is no sexual stuff.

Somebody asked me if the Amazon version of Metro 2033 can be activated on Steam?

Also in general it would be useful for everybody to know in this sale which games are redimable on Steam.

As for myself, how's the DRM for Shift 2? Would it automatically intsal origin? Im a bit concerned about it because origin client is not well optimised yet, it uses quiet a bit of memory.

Hopefuly someone can share some knowledge.

Yes, Metro 2033 can be activated on Steam.

Check the first post, it has a list of games that can be activated on Steam and Origin.
