Guild Wars 2 Press Beta [Prepurchase Is Live]

Not open for further replies.
I go with July/August/September. Sounds pretty reasonable for when pre-sales starts in April and a "public" beta at the end of April.

I seem to remember the earnings call from NCsoft mentioned the seasonality of MMOs and how numbers drop during the summer. I'm guessing September purely for that reason.

Found the source:

http://www.guildwarsinsider.com/conference-call-highlights-gw2-console-version-confirmed/

“We will be considering ‘seasonality factors’ when determining final commercialization (for Blade & Soul and GW2)”

NCsoft has previously mentioned that they take player gaming habits and lifestyle into account when looking into releasing a game. Traffic on MMO servers seems to lessen during that of the summer, so lets hope for sooner than later on the release.

Buh. That comment from ArenaNet doesn't bode well - sounds like once pre-purchase beta rolls, it's gonna go through the whole summer. LAME!

Am I the only one who thinks not announcing the release date on the 10th is a terrible practice? Yeah, "release when its done" its a virtuous thought but you're asking customers to spend 60$ to beta test your product and then release it 6 months later.

That's exactly why I don't see them not announcing it on that date. A normal preorder is one thing but pre-purchase is something totally different.

We addressed in the podcast. A lot of us think it's pretty bad.

So... should we start the bets guys? rofl. I call November for gems! hahahaha

Exactly my thought. At least at GameStop its 5$ to preorder. Just weird that the company thinks its a perfectly acceptable way to go about it. I guess we'll know on the 10th.

That pre-order is not the same thing as a pre-purchase. Pre-order won't give you the same perks as the pre-purchase which is why I predicted shenannigans. Here it comes guys!!!

I am still convinced release will be this summer. World of Warcraft's release was announced roughly three weeks before it happened. It's not unheard of for MMOs.

Also, they would be completely insane to ask people to pay the full price and wait for 6+ month without even telling them when to expect the game. I sincerely doubt marketing would be very happy about that.

Furthermore I really don't see them lifting the NDA already if they plan to stay in Beta until fall. That would be pretty unusual for MMOs in general and they are the ones being very strict about NDAs in the first place.

They did say there will be no NDA on the pre-purchase weekends, right?

I also seem to remember they specifically targeted this summer as a release window shortly before or after the first press weekend. I believe German gamestar mentioned it in their coverage. It seems unlikely they decided to start the pre-purchase program in April, but pushed the game into fall after the event.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, but I would be extremely surprised if there was time for more than three or maybe four weekend events between now and release (assuming there is one event per month).

Technically August is the summer, soooooooooo...

Also people seemed willing to lock in a full years subscription for beta access for Mists of Pandaria so I don't think it will be a complete disaster to give beta access for prepurchasing GW2 (which ends up being cheaper). I know it came with Diablo III, but many people jumped on it exclusively because of the beta access.

It was also only 15 bucks a month though. Not $60 right there and then. The whole free Diablo 3 game i'm sure was a big nugget.

Sweet here's the list for 5 bucks of gems. Winner take all yeah?

Kayos - November
Ferny - July

I bet August, I imagine the game has a high chance of coming out towards the end of August or at the beginning, either of them would be a great time due to the lack of games in the Summer period, this pretty much helped Deus Ex: HR which came out in late August do so well.

the whole access to beta thing is stupid anyway if they do betas for a while before release people will be burnt out by then, especially if it wont be coming for atleast another 4 months. alot of people will very much so give up testing and be burn out before release

I'm going to drop my bet, I won't be able to probably buy gems on my debit card due to my European card working with literally no websites online. It was a nice thought though and I hope one of you guys win!

If I could convert in-game money into gems I'd still keep my bet open, but I'm not too sure if that's actually too possible as I haven't really looked up the gem system.

Welp, since all the logical months are taken, i'll just contribute based on how early it releases. If it's released in June, i'll give 10$, July 8, August 7, Sept 6 and 5 for the months after that.

Dude... I'm not going to note that down... I'll just change it. You'll just split the gems.

Summer would have been the best time. I can't imagine they let Blizzard have the entire Summer with Diablo 3 then give them time to ramp up on advertising on Mists.

Diablo 3's audience isn't the same as GW2. ANet should worry more about WoW's audience since they're vying for money from the same pool.

I'm going to rofl so hard when I win. Oh man, everyone on the podcast will rue the day. HAHAHAHA

like i said i think people are hoping for early than july but the fact its april and they cannot announce a date i doubt they really do wanna release the game in 3 months time seems to far fetched. and the fact 2 races havent been tested add to this, (thats 2 whole starting areas never been tested by public or press).

i just cannot see this game coming in 3 months.

when i played the beta it seemed great i didnt encounter any bugs but then again i only got to level 9 out of 80 and didnt make it past the first starting area.

thats another point they need to increase the level up for beta if they want later areas tested

this all comes back to my point there is no way im leveling to level 80 in a beta to test later areas then have my char wiped lul

Eh, I think D3 will compete with the GW2 base more than WoW will. D3 is a game I see people playing along side a subscription MMO. I've always considered GW2 to be the game to fill the same void. Something people can easily jump in and out of based on the wait time between major patches in their subbed MMO of choice.

And we're getting closer and closer. Kayos might be eating those words soon. =)

November just seems waaaaaaay too out there.

Like I can understand June, July, August, and September. But really, anything past that is just getting into absurd territory. In my own opinion, of course, no offense intended. ;)

if i remember correctly once SWTOR got its ESRB rating, it got its release date announcement shortly after. so here is to wishing for good news soon :-D
