Is it 100% guaranteed beta access with any pre-order (especially DD) or will they pull a Blizzard and do it in waves?

Technically, you have to pre-purchase the game to get into Beta; a simple pre-order won't do it. You'll need to pay in full to qualify for that Beta access.

Apart from that, this is actually a good question that we can't really answer yet. Their site (https://buy.guildwars2.com/) says "Access to all Guild Wars 2 Beta Weekends", so I would assume it's the former rather than the later. I would guess if it were going to change at all or have further clarification, we'd hear sometime this week when Pre-purchasing really starts.

And not to derail the thread with WoW-hate, but that move by Blizzard was slimy as hell. As if there weren't enough reasons to despise the way they treat their customers, now they're just outright scamming them.

Based on what we've seen from the people who got the physical repurchase, it'll go something like this.

Buy game -> receive product key -> register on your ncsoft account -> gets you all repurchase bonuses, and you're notified by email when it's time for the beta. Assuming that is accurate, then as long as you get your code when you pay in full for the game, it should be for everyone as long as it's from a supported retailer.

I'm still not sure how GameStop is going to track people who pre-order the CE in full - employees who pay from GameStop are encouraged not to put all the money down so they can get their discount when it comes up. So how can you pay in full then???

I'm confused.

Just give out the codes to those who pre-order the CE, they're already putting down $25.

Yeah, I meant pre-purchase.

Well hopefully, because that would be the only reason I'm paying $60 upfront, especially when they can't even be bothered to offer the CE beyond GS, which sucks for people like myself.

A plus to the pre-purchase is that once you pay for it you don't have to go back to the store. You're done since ANet knows you prepurchased.

Unless it's CE. Then you're screwed.

Ugh, don't remind me, I have to set foot inside a Gamestop for the second time in the space of two weeks. I always feel so dirty walking in their considering how much I abhor their business practices... but Guild Wars 2 mania trumps that.

Don't you get a retail box too?

Unless you order from a retail store, no. It's all digital.

Assuming they are making you essentially buy the game a few months early, I'd say you definitely, absolutely, 100% get access to every beta without any wave nonsense. If they pull a Blizz, there would be a PR hellstorm

Actually, your CE code will work for the game permanently. You just need to go to the store to pick up your special items. Which would be the only reason you're buying the CE, but hey, it is optional to play the game.

You need to enter the serial code inside the CE within 5 days or your Beta access code stops working. But otherwise, that's it. Gotta swing by to pick up your giant ass statue, art book and prints, then figure out how to get it out of the store without looking like a huge goon carrying a giant box of nerdery.

That's okay with me because I allow myself one giant box of nerdery per decade. Last decade was Halo 3 Legendary Edition, this decade it will be Guild Wars 2 Collector's Edition*!

*possibly includes all potential Guild Wars 2 expansions and/or sequels should said expansions and/or sequels be released within this decade.

That Halo 3 Legendary Edition was worth of the name though, if the GW2 CE is even half that big I'll be surprised. That thing was just... damn. I wish I had picked one up, but I just couldn't afford it at the time.

I assume we're all gonna have to take pictures of our CE unboxing for posterity.

Unfortunately, I found the Legendary Edition for $50 brand new at a Gamestop a year or so later. I wasn't too pleased. I saved up for that thing because I was extremely over-hyped.

Of course! It is even going to be a milestone on my FB timeline!

I wish I was kidding.

Funny story about Halo 3. I was getting the LE at the midnight launch and I went in and paid for it. Time came to get the game and they handed me the big ass CE and I was like LOLWUT in my head, but didn't question it. So I got a what $150 CE for $70 on launch?

I envy you.

I can't get into buying special editions of games. I wouldn't mind owning them, but most of the time, the price doesn't justify the product. I'd be much more willing to buy at $100-$120.

The Legendary for Halo 3 pretty much made me wary of purchasing any special edition above $100. I just feel like I want to collect Guild Wars 2 memorabilia. I'm just glad ANet is giving an option to purchase a special edition that includes all the in-game collectible stuff for $80 instead of making that exclusive to the $150 version.

I'm still debating whether to get DDeluxe or just the regular. The wolf summons sound cool, but I don't know if $20 cool.

Yea I've decided on the regular. The leaked screens of the gem shop showed that an extra character slot was like $10 I believe. Feel like that extra $20 I was gonna use on the DD would be better spent on 2 extra slots :)

Tbh, DD isn't really worth it. I'm only getting it because I invested so much time over so many years into the first game, and I don't want to not be able to get an item (the minipet and elite). Those items definitely don't seem worth it though unless you're a completionist like me :P
CE is a definite no from me... whenever I buy things like that the material items just sit around and collect dust. Vanilla or DD is the way to go imo.

I'm getting Digital for my GF because I don't want her to be left out of the Mistfire Wolf club.
Was thinking about the DD for the pet cub, but then I saw the other mini pets in game and decided to just go with the regular.

I'll use the saved money probably on the cash shop instead.

Mmm... I haven't seen the other pets so I'll go check that out, and didn't think about the char slot. Yeah, regular edition sounds fine and those $20 might find better use in the cash shop later on.

The only reason I pre-purchased off Amazon 3yrs back was because of those 10% coupons they had. I think I ended up paying only $42 for it (which I could easily cancel).

Fuck yes, my two pre-purchase boxes are on their way to my home!
Can't wait to...open them and...stare at the codes?

We had this one kind of mishmash category of necro skills, and we worked them into what we called Corruptions, but we didn’t really know what that meant. We kind of figured out now that what they’re going to do is – and I just changed this Wednesday, so only two days ago – the Corruptions each give you a condition when you use them.

So Corruption is skills like Blood is Power where you’re bleeding someone, getting a bunch of life force, and bleeding yourself too. Another one is Poison Cloud which gives you weakness. So you have all of these things where all of the sudden things like Consume Conditions, as a heal, should now heal for more because you brought all of these Corruptions. Or we have skills like Well of Power which converts them into boons. That lets you do things like a Well of Power plus two Corruptions will give you two debuffs but turn them into buffs and use interactions like that.
Oh man, this is what I was looking for.

I need access to this beta, like right now.

There’s still going to be a significant number of trait changes, but the new traits will start to be a lot more balanced. The traits we have in now are one of the most imbalanced parts of the game if you’ve paid much attention to them.

Wow, sounds like a lot is needed to be worked on then before it's ready.

We’ve been iterating on them constantly for two years, so the creatures have come to this place where they play a lot more like players do. So it’s created less necessity for that split which is nice.

There's that indicator that mobs act like players, kiting you, using abilities to stunlock/condition you... sogood.gif

I’m sure you noticed things in that last one where it was like, “I’m level 10 and I’m fighting three level 17s”, so there’s no more of that.

Sounds like you are going to fight higher levels, but only if you take it slow - they will fuck you up if you don't master your class.

Alright so who do I owe gems to? 8) All kidding aside I can understand Kayos' sentiments towards a later release. We all want this game to do well and deliver and if that means pushing it back, then so be it.

that seems like a really good idea.

The money would be going to the same place anyway, and I'd much rather be able to choose what that extra $20 is spent on. Like I said in an earlier post, the inclusion of cash shop items for the Deluxe Edition was dumb. It should have just been $20 worth of gems, or maybe $25-$30 worth to make it feel like you're getting a good deal out of paying extra and in full before release.

Anyone care to take a jab at how the CE edition is worth the 150 bucks? Not trying to bash it, just trying to get a feel of it...

Physical Items:

Full Game - 60
Statue - 30
Soundtrack - 10
Art Prints - 10
Art Book - 15?

-----
Digital Items:

Elite Skill - ?
Mini Rytlock - ?
Chalice of Glory - ?
Tome of Influence - ?
Golem Banker - ?

=====
Let me know what you guys think.

The statue is worth way more than $30. It looks pretty high quality from the videos I've seen of it.

ANet sold the first GW2 art book for $30, IIRC. I'd price this one similar.

Contemplating staying up until 2:00 A.M. Minnesota time to preorder as soon as it's available, assuming it'll be up at midnight Washington time. Probably not a good idea...

I just find it crazy that I'm hyped for pre-purchasing a game. I won't get to play it tomorrow, at best I'll get to taste it this upcoming weekend or around the 20th (which the first is wishful thinking and the second may be), and there's no guarantee of much info occurring tomorrow either (besides possibly the beta dates).

Also, I'm up for joining the GAF Guild. I listened to the second GAF Wars podcast and the idea behind the GAF guild pretty much fits my own ideas around a guild for an MMO (definitely like the casual focus - with hardcore aspects if desired - and the no-drama tolerance).

I dunno, nothing wrong with being excited about that... they could share some new information etc as well, right? ;D
