The hound deals it's damage before combat starts, with deathtouch that means it kills anything it blocks or is blocked by before combat resolves.

You need to summon both creatures normally, no mana discounts.

Ah so the main objective is to have cards that have deathtouch to make the opponent question whether to block them or not.

When's Magic 2013 coming out? Do those who own 2012 on PSN or XBL get a discount or such?

Emancipation Angel is definitely waifu material.

Only thing I'm not feeling so far about the set is the complete absence of any of the tribes in anything we've seen so far. Doesn't have to be huge, but I hope we still get some zombies and vampires (it looks like all werewolves have become wolfir, which makes sense since AVR has no flip cards)

I'm not sure how I feel about that planeswalker. I feel like it's going to have interesting applications I haven't thought of.
As far as I can tell it's:

1. Pick a spell you like
2. Go infinite with it

If you get her ultimate down, you can shotgun Vapor Snags. Super good.

Just use her +1 to stall your opponent's lands, threatening creatures, etc, to protect her/yourself until you can -8 with her. Then it's going to be a hilarious ride.

Keep casting Divination, keep casting vapor snag, keep casting mana leak. Control all day long.

Haha, new angel means you can steal (almost) all of Uril's or Jur's auras.

And the new planeswalker has some really good applications for any kind of recursion. She's gonna get super-targetted like Jace did/does, though.

In any case, box purchase confirmed.

Keeping that PW alive for the 4 turns (5 if you want it to survive) to get out an ultimate would be pretty hard.

Then again I guess PW's going ultimate is pretty rare regardless.

Either I can't find or can't view the new PW. Can someone post it up or give details?

Awesome soratami art

+1: Tap target permanent. It doesn't untap during its controllers next untap step.

-2: Draw a card for each tapped creature target player controls

-8: You gain an emblem with "you have no maximum hand size" and "whenever a card is put into your graveyard from anywhere you may return it to your hand"

Starting loyalty: 4

Her face is kind of derp, her pose is kind of bland and flat.

Not sure what is with the scrolls. Or her left hand.

All in all she looks like something out of Harry Potter.

Then again all of the soratami looked kind of derp.

I still think the original Sorin had the best art of any Planeswalker.

Thanks! Dang, it sounds beastly already. This will be one expensive card. Box bought.

I've always been partial to the JTMS art:

I have this card. Is he banned in SL? Also, what format do you guys play primarily? I'm sick of playing open (anything goes) with my friends so I am building my decks to be SL and forcing my friends to play with my decks, haha. Also we are doing an Avacyn Restored draft which should be fun and assist in further legalizing my decks.

Really? I'm not a huge fan of Sorin's art, his arm looks a bit weird and his overall pose is just kind of "stand in the center, stare at the camera"

Awful.

Surely they can get a better artist than that.

Not all the books are good though, there's kind of a disconnect between the writers and the designers when it comes to story. Some writers try to stay as faithful as possible, others just sort of do their own thing.

The DailyMTG column Savor the Flavor deals with the story and worldbuilding side of magic.

Their Planeswalkers' Guides are a good place to start. Here's the one for Innistrad.

It's like if a bunch of professional D&D Gamemasters sat down to create a campaign that would span multiple worlds and characters and last for decades, which is more or less exactly what happened.

I don't know, this feels kind of weak to me.

I think the fact that the +1 can tap any target permanent will be huge. It'll allow you to tap titans down or lands if they get mana screwed, run Inkmoth or Kessig, and what not. -2 can potentially draw several cards which is always a plus. Not as good as Jace but solid.

It's true that, unless you played Magic for a long time, it wasn't immediately obvious that there was one story line stretching from the Brothers' War (or The Thran if you want to go further back) all the way to Onslaught.

One of the motives behind creating the planeswalker cards was to establish a more obvious connection and continuity between sets, as well as serve as mascots for the game.

Still, you have to get 5 mana to even play it. If it were 4 mana I might agree. It feels overcosted to be a true haymaker. I could be wrong though.

If you say so. I don't see how either a ridiculous creature or 4 direct damage is useless, but hey. Opinions!

I define useless as a card that has no competetive potential and that's how I see this guy. In an aggressive all in deck the first turn burn with no followthrough is just awful. And in later stages of the game you give control to your opponent, which is always bad no matter how you spin it.

Does to beast within/desert twister. Doesn't have hexproof and is counterables.

Dollar rare.

Cool thing about price/playability guesses are that they are always proven false or true eventually :)

With the bottom part visible is becomes so much more beautiful.

So what's the fastest theoretical way to win a game?

  1. 7->5 cards: Tropical Island + Cast Birds of Paradise
  2. 6->3 cards: Draw & Cast Temporal Mastery + Savannah + Cast Birds of Paradise, Badlands + Reaper King
  3. 4->0 cards: Draw & Cast Temporal Mastery + Land + Wild Growth, Land + Coalition Victory

Looks like I'm going to have to take apart my Uril EDH deck and throw a Bruna one together.

That planeswalker isn't really my style but her ultimate is nuts.

A friend had some weird combo deck that allowed him to win practically before turn one if he had a Leyline of Anticipation in hand. Even if he mulliganed to one.

I once won on my opponents first turn with 4x Psychic Purge... discard heavy environment back in 95. Went something like this:

First Turn - Him - Underground Sea, Mox Jet, Black Lotus - Sol Ring, Dark Ritual - Mind Twist me for 7. I discarded my hand and he lost 20 Life. Kinda fun that I won without playing a land.

I had an embarassing rage quit last night.

We were playing a 6 player game, and my one friend was talking crap across the table at me about how he was going to kill me next turn. So I did what anyone would do -- I attacked him with my Primeval Titan and Wolf Run'd it for like 12 before he could.

My friend next to me, who was the only person I hadn't attacked all game, decided NOW was the time to Go For The Throat my titan.

So I quietly and calmly scooped my cards. I don't even know why. I wasn't really mad, I was just finished with that game. I mean, if he was going to kill me anyway, what was the point of staying on the table, I guess.

Can't wait to hear about that for the next couple weeks lol
