Wii U Speculation thread IV: Photoshop rumors and image memes

I hope so because that'd be dope as hell. Still though, I wonder what another style entirely of 3D Mario would look like. I guess open world's basically all they could do different at this point.

I'm sure EAD Tokyo will do something new and unique, I mean did anyone expect Mario in space?

A better narrative?

I don't see why this has to be a linear evolution for Nintendo's supposedly creative minds.

What does narrative have to do with gameplay structure? And I wasn't implying the Galaxies are the epitome of Mario design (hell, I'm probably the last person in this thread who would do that), just wondering what comes next. In fact, I hope it's not a return to the Galaxy series.

I think Nintendo is a very strong company right now they can get the 3rd Party exclusives needed if 3DS proves anything. Launch of WiiU may just be as strong as any launch but by Holiday 2013 is the time we should be expecting stronger first party software

IGN use to be a source worth trusting but all the Nintendo doom nonsense lately is pretty lame and without a bit of logic

IGN was the last major news site I used to go to. But no more.

Where do Nintendo fans go for news without the 'tude? Smaller fansites & blogs, sure.. but that's about it.

How about tossing out the "collect XXX coins/stars" mentality and make it more objective based. Some of the most memorable levels from 3D Mario involved finishing nonstandard tasks, like that penguin race. Or those terrible garbage destroying contests

So, to get past a level, maybe there's a boss to kill or a flag to reach. Or maybe there's a counterweighted drawbridge you have to open it by moving around heavy objects. Or a cannon, but you have to clear out obstacles in its way before you can jump in to get to the next level.

Just ... not stars. Or shines. Or anything equivalent. Do away with them entirely so the game designers are prevented from usually taking the easy way out of assembling their levels.

8-4's podcast and that's about it.
Hmm.. I wrote-off 1Up a long time ago. The attitude got really damn old, and I'm one to hold a grudge.

I come here, because I <3 you guys.
Pretty much!
It y'all, a site that you Go to for Nintendo news, and NintendoWorldReport. That's about it.

I miss the item boxes at the end of SMB3.
Or flagpoles.. those'll do nicely.

8-4 Play isn't really anti-Nintendo in any way, they like and hate most things equally.
Hesitant as I may be, I might have to give 'em a try. I could use a new podcast for when I'm at work.

Nah, I wasn't directing the last part at you anyways.

And I meant narrative in the sense of Sunshine. You did different stuff in that game based on the story, that you wouldn't normally in a Mario game had it not been for the story, namely the cleaning and water mechanic. And it was almost open world in a way.

And I'm hoping against a SMG3 as well. That combined with NSMBMii would be kind of sad.

Have you played Super Mario 3D Land? It had flag poles!

Personally I don't mind the stars, but it gets annoying if I have to keep going back to the same stage over and over again. I enjoyed it in SM64 but after that I started to get tired of it.

Where do you go after Galaxy?

What about going all the opposite?
A game where the whole Mushroom Kingdom gets shrunk by Bowser's evil shriking machine (him included lol) and Mario has to destroy it to go back to normal. Dealing with giant koopa troopas, Goombas and huge levels

I don't know... just a thought after watching that Honey, I shrunk the kids movie.

That said, I would enjoy a bit more narrative in a Mario game if only for motivational purposes. Mario games are sometimes so bare bones in that department that I end up wondering what the point is. I guess the sheer joy of the mechanics isn't enough for me anymore.

Wait, isn't that sort of like the plot of one of the Mario & Luigi games?

8-4 Play
Nintendo World Report

Both give Nintendo their dues, but also let them have it if they do something stupid. NWR focuses on Nintendo, but they also talk about 360/PS3 and games in general, from the perspective of 4 dudes who grew up with and still love Nintendo games.

Other sites and podcasts seem to have gone beyond hate of Nintendo. They're completely indifferent at this point. Maybe a passing mention of them, as if EAD isn't still the best collection of game developing talent of the face of the Earth.

Going even further, I'd love to see an adventure inside of Bowser. I think of that Futurama episode where the gang goes inside of Fry after he eats that truckstop egg sandwich that makes him smart, and they end-up battling the weird worm things.

Bowser could have a way of detecting where you are within him, and he could shrink his army to send them after you.

Hmm. Naah. I'd rather a classic Mushroom Kingdom adventure. Including some substantial time where the enemies are gigantic. Preferably in the spirit of SMB3.

Yup! I'd love to see it on a console game again!

Yessssssssssss!

I love the mechanics in that game and was initiallysm sad when it reverted. Also, more games with character selection where the characters have different traits. Probably another reason there why I'm a rare lover of SPM.

I've felt we've been long overdue for another game with Wart as the final boss. They could even include Bowser as one of the selectable characters.

Yeah, I'm done with space. Put Mario back in the Mushroom Kingdom and I'll be a happy camper.

Mario was cell shaded in Sunshine...wut? I don't recall that.

Yes, but only his face and arms. It was a very subtle effect.

By the way, how about a Super Mario Summit? As a sequel to Sunshine, it could take place at a mountain resort. You could have levels based on ski slopes, hot springs, cliffs, a winter sports park, etc. with a quaint village as the center hub.

I dreamed a starting a purely Nintendo fans website but I have no help so it would just be a stupid blog :(

I miss real good Nintendo fan news without the stupid

so I rather just stay in these threads

I'd rather they not revolve the game around a theme like that, and just put those ideas towards different levels.

It's a possibility, but I see them continuing the use of Stars/Shines. If anything I'd like to see them change it up a bit. Would love a Super Mario World type game. Reach end of the level and cross that line.

I was thinking about this the other day. We can possibly go to E3 too.

sounds pretty good to me actually

Love it.

They would have to work hard to really distinguish the different areas with characters, music and themes, which would be great.

I own the domain, NintendoWorldNews.com, but I haven't really done anything with it yet. Lets do it!

Hell yes. We need something like that so bad.

I want a Mario game that starts out old school 8 bit graphics wise
and with every level, the graphics are bumped up another level ie
16 bit, 32 bit, 64 bit and finally full HD with the Wii-u's bells and
whistles.

Sort of a Mario Generations. You could have Bowser going back in
time to all the old Mario/Nintendo games to cause havoc and
take it from there.

I own www.sales-age.com

By the way, being at E3 in person is not a picnic. Trade shows in general can be pretty exhausting. There are benefits from taking it from home where you can take your time getting news and media of each game that interests you.

You know, after all the bitching I've done about NSMBM I just realized that I have no idea what I actually want out of a Wii U Mario. HD open world? Galaxy continuation? 2D with mindblowing art? Idk.

Super Mario Universe:

Use the Mario Galaxy engine and this time use the game to literally cover the Mario Universe. Instead of just galaxies we'll also have huge planets to explore. A classic SMB1 style planet, Lost Levels themed planet, a SubCon planet, SMB 3 planet, SMW planet and so on each with their own respective locales and classic power ups (but this time allow players to take power ups between stages/planets like 3DLand did). Yoshi, Tanooki suit, Cape, Bowser, Koopalings, Wart, EVERYTHING. Mix of planetoids and large free roaming stages to keep everyone happy. The most epic Mario game ever.

edit: UtraZilla has kind of the same idea as me.

Any other year I would agree.
