Wii U Speculation thread IV: Photoshop rumors and image memes

I think most Nintendo fans here will be baited in WiiU vs 360/PS3 port comparison posts

the devs will not push the WiiU at all at first so I expect at least one WiiU port to look worst from some lazy work and rush job to cash in on launch cause so major fireworks on this forum

who will survive this?

I'll just keep my thoughts to myself, you guys should expect this

I think the only thing that would stop this from happening is either some outright spectacular looking exclusives, or UE4 being confirmed for the system. Or by some off chance they release some system specs.

Why would you have to relearn SSB? The controls are almost exactly the same. They might somehow subjectively feel different, but there'd be nothing new to learn.

Sliders would be the biggest change, obviously. Of course I'm not sure how that would really change things. But essentially it's really a feel issue. The button placements and functions of said buttons would be different too, and be a type of "relearning" to adjust your timings and muscle memory to hit certain spots on the controller.

Take a serious fighting game player who uses a Sanwa stick and put him on a Saturn pad, there would surely be a relearning even though all the functions are basically the same. Take a Super Meat Boy player who has 200 hours on a 360 pad and put him on a keyboard, or vise versa, same relearning even with identical functions. Of course this is also applicable to different kinds of controllers. It's about feel and comfortability, and also ergonomics. The later two which I highly doubt can compete with the GC controller for a many types of games.

Will the sliders be able to properly approximate the nuanced throws of the GC analog stick? Will the button layout be briefly cumbersome for the game, will the basic ergonomics lend themselves to 50-100 hours of play in Smash, with 3-7 hours sessions? I don't know, but I do know there's a good market for a brand spanking new Nintendo gamepad for the Wii U to eliminate any sort of problems like these. I suppose they could make the Wii U version of Smash favor the Wii U controller, but I doubt it. Though it will be interesting to see how they apply it to the 3DS and how that application transfers to the Wii U's default controls.

I am looking for something as epic as WallGuy man that was classic

I think UE4 will be there but I'm not sure how spectacular the games will look. Even first party ones. They'll be good but I doubt spectacular.

Why are the start and select buttons so hard to reach? Never noticed that until now.

What happen to just putting the start/select button under the other main buttons, like the DS lite?

edit: Like that pic. That looks more reasonable. I don't have to reach my fingers down the length of the screen to find the tiny start button

You should keep the tradition alive and make this year's E3 Nintendo Conference thread, BY2K. Recap some rumors, hypetrain pics, what to expect, all that jazz.

It's bound to be a legendary thread people will look back on years later

I'm already looking forward to all the 'dawn of the final day' stuff, it's gonna be great.

How do you guys think Nintendo will start the conference? Considering that we haven't really seen the Wii U since last year I'm not sure if they would just dive straight into that or start with 3DS stuff.

They should start with the 3DS(after silly sales figures/Wii history of course) because if they started with Wii U information(once it's done), no one would care about the following presentation.

Iwata comes out, "Last year, at the Nintendo E3 Conference, we mentioned the name "Super Smash Bros". This year, we will talk, in more detail, about that game. But, we'll hold on to that, a little later." *flips hair* *Reggie comes out to talk about Harvest Moon 3DS*

I tried to verbalize Iwata's pauses/speech patterns with the commas, btw

What if they do it like the Wii presentation in 2006? Miyamoto coming out in a tuxedo, wiimote in hand. No words. He just starts playing Wii Music and is playing the Zelda theme, then BOOM! EXCITETRUCK! And then after like 30 seconds it switches to Red Steel!

I think it might be pretty cool if they do something like that, especially if they do it with unannounced games.

I read that with Iwata's voice in my head. Thank you.

changes to the box and the pad should be shocking enough

I hope they start with 3DS though

I hope they literally just do a 2 minute biz speech, followed by 3DS Luigi's Mansion 2, followed by NSMB2, followed by Sakamoto's Metroid Dread (for 3DS). And then it's all Wii U from then on, maybe only pausing to show a work-in-progress build of Smash 3DS.

And the "Before you go" Reggie moment at the end should be either Retro's new game, or Goodfeel x Tokyo EAD Yoshi's Island 2.

This was a really good answer, and it reminds me how much harder it is to, for example, do random button QTEs on a "diamond-style" face button arrangement compared to anything else I've yet come across.

I apologize for missing this earlier. But yeah, and also consider the placement of the right slider (above the face buttons). Assuming that is final (hopefully not) quite a lot of high level serious Smash players intensely utilize the C-Stick on the GC controller...how well do we think the right slider would be used in this position? It would be more than just relearning, it would be eliminating (or making very obtuse) a vital input for a lot of players. Obviously the C-Stick isn't needed, but for a lot of players at competitive play it's pretty vital.

Yeah, you post something and then you realize everybody just posted pretty much the same thing. And there's like a hundred posts a minute so you really aren't having a discussion with anybody.

I remember last year. There was about 200+ posts in one minute saying something to the effect of "WII-U!? REALLY!?"
The total madness of Neogaf E3 is why it's so appealing!

This system could be totally awesome, but that name still hasn't grown on me a year later. You think they would announce a name change at an investor's meeting?
That would be the best time to do it. If the name is going to be changed, they have to do it before E3 so as to give third parties time to prepare their marketing.
would E3 not be a good time for that long awaited 3DS lite?
something that has even more hardwired ways to interact with the WiiU?
It would steal too much of Wii U's thunder...unless it launches between E3 and the release of NSMB2. That strategy worked for Nintendo when they launched the DS Lite and NSMB within weeks of each other, so...maybe?
My birthday is in August. :3
Same here. I Hope they change it. The Wii Stream or Wiinamp. Maybe The Nintendoom :)
Nintendoom is one key stroke away from Nintendoon.
Nintendoon...Nintendo...On.
Believe.

Anthony's "whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat" still cracks me up

Seems I wasn't impressed with the name when it was first announced.

Now I'm indifferent. I'm used it it. Shoving a number of the end of Playstation and whatever they do with the XBox is not much better. Need cool names back like GameCube and Dreamcast.

Now I can't get this idea about 3DS mk II being unveiled at E3 out of my mind.
Wii U + new 3DS at the one conference would be a pretty incredible showing.

i don't think they'll have the 3ds steal any of the wii u's thunder if they plan on releasing new hardware for it this year.

i definitely see it being the big push in 2013 though. they'll have exhausted their 2d mario, 3d mario, dragon quest monster, monster hunter, and mario kart options by then. the only thing left is a pokemon and a revision.

gamecube wasn't a cool name. it was kinda lame like xbox, except where xbox has that lame 90s 'xtreme' part of its heritage, the gamecube sounds like the name a parent would give any generic games console.

dreamcast, saturn, and genesis were all cool names though. even game gear and nomad sounded cooler than game boy and virtual boy.

Great, so I can accidentally graze the Home button with the heel of my thumb and open a menu during playing! Brilliant!

Seriously. Why does the "Wii U" logo take placement precedence over the menu buttons? Seems a bit silly. Like the atrocious Black/White buttons on the XBox Controller S. I don't like it. Everything else is nice, though.

Doesn't make sense at this time.

1. Their competition, the Vita is struggling - badly. If it was outselling the 3DS 7-1, the redesign pressure would be far more urgent.
2. They want to focus on the Wii U.
3. They haven't made a profit from the first 3DS yet...

Well, one theory would have an XL-like version of 3DS with the CCPro extras added in, and allowing it to function as a lower-resolution Wii U controller.
3. They haven't made a profit from the first 3DS yet...
Seems irrelevant. If they have a new model it's because they think it will do better in some way, so it would be silly to hold it off just to hit some predetermined goal with an earlier model.

Did the DS Lite steal the Wii's thunder in 2006?
I think in all likelihood it will be released in Q1/Q2 2013, but I don't think a launch this summer is totally out of the realm of possibility.

that would be quite disappointing.

Don't get me wrong: if they announce new cool 3DS stuff at the conference, I will be one of the first who jumps up.

But they need to convince people of their new big home console. What's the vision behind it? What can we expect from it - software and hardware wise?
There are way more questions about the Wii U than about the 3DS and honestly if I look at their Nintendo Direct program than I'm most certain that the 3DS has a really bright future.

I would buy it, even without the CCP additions, just for Colors 3D. The bottom Screen feels really restrictive with that idiotically high bezel.

I don't think so at all. 3DS is here already and there's nothing I can imagine for it that's more worthy than Wii U. A new system is a big thing, whereas announcing that you fucked up and finally put in a second pad that should have been there from the beginning, thereby pissing off current owners, ain't.

I know a number of people who regularly tell me they're waiting for the revision before buying a 3DS.

I would wager there is a significant number of extra sales waiting to be sold to a market waiting for a 3DS revision. It's just a case of when Nintendo decide to do it.

They can dedicate half of the conference to WiiU. That's more than enough time to sell people on the system.

The rest should be split between sales figures (you know it's gonna happen) and 3DS. Also some Wii and DS in the mix if we are lucky.

Guess I'm only partial to the name GameCube because it doesn't have that "lame 90s 'xtreme'" ring to it.

But I'm not going to start upending tables when we all find out Nintendo hasn't changed the name of the Wii U.

i'm talking games, here. this will be the 2nd e3 since the 3ds released, and it would be disappointing if there are not a ton of game announcements.

wow, now where back on a 3DS redesign that's not gonna happen this year...smh

meh, 3ds redesign should probably be announced this year. it's (likely) not going to have an extra slidepad, though; the handling of the slidepad attachment seems to be pointing towards that.
